Then again, Hush is learning to become a better person and becoming a part of Mika's life like Atra, Orga and Kudelia, we tend to forget to he tried to take care of a cripple who gave up on life eventually feeling he was useless. Mika and Hush interacting off duty gives Mika someone to rely on and give him moments where he is humanized as we have seen here taking care of the kids, watching Atra build her ambitions of ensuring Mika has next of kin, little things in life that Mika wouldn't have cared much about if he still has his two legs.

Hush can end up as a great pilot, but it is worth nothing if he doesn't have something else to define himself by. Mika may have a reason to put aside him other goals for Orga but Hush has nothing else aside "surpass Mika" when he first joined.

Guts is going into the next fight with some major death flags. You have the Beard guy's dying words about how decent people die early plus the symbolism of full city.

Full City refers to a specific roast of coffee (one crack with another just starting) which corresponds to Akihiro's situation at the beginning of the season (One dead brother and adopted another kid). Now he has three deaths or cracks to his character, which would refer to a Spanish roast. But it is very difficult to get three cracks in your coffee bean, as at that point the beans are very close to catching fire.

So, Guts may be joining Lafter in Gundam Valhalla pretty soon. It doesn't really help that he is not slated to get an upgrade.

Shino dying would be purely for drama because as far as the plot goes he's not very relevant. And most of the characters who died had a more significant of connection to the three main characters or the plot. Even the Aston death and the Earth branch had connection to both Akihiro who's always been a "plot character," and Orga/MgGillis alliance. But you never know, IBO does that thing where they pick up a character who wasn't relevant before, get them involved and telegraph through their back story, character developement and death in three episodes tops.

It really is shitty since in S1 he managed to be incredibly useful and have a very strong character even through the fact that he was put on a bus. Was useful in 3 major confrontations, performed 4 cool feats, backed up Orga, and was one of the loudest voices of opposition. Now his personality is mostly gone, but it might be because he literally is never shown and when he is it's just to say a line or two about Orga or react to Shino for a second then fuck off.
