What's the general opinion on Timeranger? So far I'm on episode 17 and:

-Opening song is surreal, can't stop hearing it.
-Londarz Family and its roster of criminals are great. Best part of the episode is to see what mischievous fuckery they are planning.
-Suits, mechs, fights, stunts.....the dullest part sofar. I really wish they get an upgrade because, because time robo alpha/betta/gamma is getting tiresome. The shtick of "freezing" the bad guys is pretty neat, though.
-Red and yellow are best timerangers.

(to note: by captions I mean closed captioning as in japanese subtitles, "capper" is the used term for the person recording a show who can provide you with a recording of the episode, that may or not contain closed captions. The SHT trifecta airings have captions.)

Basically TVN didn't have access or knew a capper back then (which I found hella weird considering how long they've been around) and relied on public stuff for raws and shit. Public caption sharing for SHT didn't really become a thing until 2011-ish, when ElitistFags (cappers and friends of the nebulous collective of individuals colloquially known in the anime subbing community as The Cartel) began to share transport streams, including some for SHT.

Around that time GUIS first started sharing their Gokaiger captions, if memory serves, but eventually stopped because they suspected TVN was using their stuff (raws and captions) without credit. We made our caption folder available around that time (our source was different from GUIS') until ElitistFags opened up a site where they began autodumping captions for all of Super Hero Time. Given we were updating ours manually whenever I happened to remember to upload the captions, we just stopped bothering with that. EF's site eventually died and at some point in 2014 Kitsunekko became a thing, and here we are now.

TVN eventually had one of their members who lived in Japan (Lunagel I think?) learn how to record the shows, so they now have their own internal source for captions. I do not know how long it took for this to happen because I don't happen to be a TVN insider encyclopedia

Also yeah, a lot of kitsunekko's library of older shows comes from recent reairings on Toei Channel that were definitely not available when TVN first subbed those shows. A lot of the infrastructure you now have access to for recording these specific shows and its japanese subtitles wasn't set in place back then and it came to be as people began knowing the right guys to make it happen. In the particular case of Den-O, when that was airing not even Gust had access to a capper, and all shared raws that everyone (including TVN) had access to came from, well, Share, as well as Perfect Dark.

Should I watch Gokaiger before watching Kyoryuger?

Gokai is a decent season on its own, but you need to have at least a little prior knowledge of its predecessors to really appreciate it. Even then, it doesn't presume you have a Nobuo Akagi level of knowledge of Sentais past and can still be watched on its own.

Kyoryu very much adheres to formula and doesn't really do anything different or out of the ordinary. It's actually fairly good most of the run despite this, but be aware that it completely shits the bed in the final arc and that kind of sours the show as a whole for many people.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to imply here. There's real people making these shows and when people in charge care it shows, and likewise it's very obvious when they phone it in. In a distant future in far reaches of space, 88 constellations that exist in our universe have fallen into the hands of the evil Space Shogunate Dark Matter. No, what I'm telling you is that there's multiple people working on a show and multiple factors contributing to its development. Look at Go-Busters and Ninninger. Both were made by Takabe, only one was great and unique and the other was dull and generic. Or Goseiger that turned out great against all odds when producers were getting fired off it and some episodes were literally filmed with only a loose idea of a script.
