Its a muvluv spinoff. Muvluv writing is... not great.

For example, the mechas in that gif are specifically made to fight aliens with infinite range one-hit-kill and they literally never miss death lasers, and their whole purpose is to be ultra maneuverable as fuck and to fight swarms of enemies.

You may notice them hovering in the air and waiting to die.

This is above average writing for muvluv. Most of it is worse.
