I've just checked his Japanese wiki page and there's no mention of the Keroro reference though, so he probably never realized it. It doesn't help it happened during that period the franchise was basically getting no marketing even though it was still on tv.

Dark Keroro's robot was actually called the X Keroro Robo? Didn't know that, I swore I saw a piece of Yoshizaki art that called it the more straightforward D-Keroro Robo.

Yeah, pretty ironic post now in hindsight. I wasn't very fond of the first episode, but it has been entertaining afterwards.

Regarding an anime cameo... they started including Keroro stuff in general Kemono Friends material like I pointed out in the op, so it could happen, although there's nothing confirmed at this point.

And also regarding Kemono Friends, there's a small tidbit in the Keroro manga right now that could indicate some crossover in the manga itself... the current arc in the Keroro manga involves "Keroron Balls" falling in various locations around the world causing weird events. They fly to the locations Fuyuki had selected in a list of seven mysterious wonders. Almost all of the locations shown there had been featured in the Keroro anime or its movies. The stories so far are basically Mine Yoshizaki's own direct takes on those anime/movie characters too. There's one exception though - that seemingly random mountain/volcano.

In the Kemono Friends anime, there's a similar mountain which is supposedly the source of the Sandstar that turned animals into girls... I don't think it'd be a direct tie in but it could be another take on the characters like what the current arc has done with characters from two Keroro movies so far.

Yoshizaki Mine has done manga crossovers with other series he worked on before, either alternate takes on them (like the Seven of Seven chapters) or direct crossovers (Angol Fear directly from Soulcalibur IV), although all of them were done YEARS after the series/game being referenced, which kind of hurts the possibility of this being some kind of tie in.

Closest thing to a more overt Lamune crossover was Mois briefly taking this form.

I've been reading some interviews recently posted in /a/'s kemono friends thread, and I was actually surprised by the amount of involvement Yoshizaki Mine has with Kemono Friends though. He wasn't just hired to do character designs for the game - he was hired to create the basic setting concept and designs for a multimedia franchise. That's why his credit in the anime is listed as "Concept Design", rather than just "Character Design".

The anime had some kind of licensing issue where they were only allowed to show model kits and characters from UC Gundam, but there were less overt references to other shows, although always hidden compared to UC Gundam. This shot here is Keroro worrying about a Mandala Gundam's model kit's production after he started some weapon that force every liquid to be spilled (Often the featured models don't even exist, see stuff like an MG Zakurello).

I guess there might be a similar licensing issue with the manga. Still, for example, there was a scene with Keroro mimicking G Gundam's narrator, or placing a Turn-A sticker (head only) in a nanomachine bottle.

I guess that scene got away with it since the boxes were hand drawn, rather than art rips (the anime had its own made up boxes, but the manga used to get the art directly from real Gunpla boxes) and it was just the mobile suit's name, with the suit itself being barely visible.

It says the next Shounen Ace's chapter (so, we'll only actually see it next month) betrays expectations with the appearance of a certain character, which I guess means the AkuAku story is going in a different direction from movie 5.

This shot from the 2nd episode has a couple of interesting things.

The name "Pokopen" on top of the screen, and made it to the anime at least here, even though it was officially replaced by Pekopon.

Also, the location highlighted is supposed to be Fuyuki's school, which is part of OkuTokyo. However, the area highlighted actually is Suginami, where Sunrise's headquarters are. There's a "Sunirase" in Okutokyo in the anime, but this location is kind of odd.

Most of the locations in Okutokyo (or Musashi like it's called in the manga) come from the neighboring Nishitokyo and Musashino districts, including the Nishizawa tower (Skytower Nishitokyo), Kissho academy (girls-only school in reality - probably a relic from when it was planned that all the partners of the Keronians would be girls) and Kichijoji station from Musashino.

The anime does throw a couple random locations from other parts of Tokyo there though, like an Okutokyo Stadium and "Sunirase" like mentioned above.

In the beginning I had zero interest in the anime either, to be honest, but thought it couldn't hurt to try if so many people had found so much in it for it to be some come-from-nowhere dark horse anime of the season (and with it also being a Yoshizaki joint). I ended up marathoning everything out and digging it. Also: why does Fennec always look so smug?

I just -really- wish it wasn't CG, which would have certainly done more justice to Yoshizaki's designs, but the non-VA budget for the anime might have been the equivalent of like 100 bucks.

Really hoping for a KF anime cameo in order to get more fanart.

I think even if there's a tie-in in the Keroro manga later it wouldn't have an effect as big as a quick anime appearance would have, considering how big the Kemono Friends anime is right now.

The main issue though is that the way they're building the mystery regarding humanity's fate in the KF anime, they couldn't really throw in Keroro without revealing what happened to the world unless it's a completely random cameo where they don't even meet the main cast.

Same, but yeah, it's too bad the show's already gearing up for endgame mode and probably won't give us an appearance by them that will satisfy.

But with Japari Park being an island and them saying the humans left through the harbor, I'm just hoping the "park abandoned because of Ceruleans or whatever" theory, and not the human extinction one, is the winning one to set the tone for the second season the anime will obviously get. From then on the platoon could just end up crash landing their not-Thunderbird 2 on their way to wherever, become Friends, and shenanigans ensue.

I registed and got into the site. The list in that thread isn't quite complete though - it starts from episode 84. I think there was a Japanese guide released back then that covered the early episodes though, which why they only start making a compiled list by that point. Regarding that speculation...

The Friend-like Cool/Pure/Passion Beasts in the KF game's 2nd main story carry a star pendant resembling a Keroron ball that is never explained in the story and isn't part of the design of the original robot Lucky Beast in the anime.

The alternate dimension stuff introduced at the end of the Mutsumi's father arc and carried onto the Keroron Balls also could used to explain why Japari Park resembles Japan (In game, it had the same overall shape as Japan, with the regions named after it, in the anime, although the shape and names haven't been mentioned, the Sandstar mountain seems modeled on Mount Fuji - there's also the name itself, with Japari clearly coming from Japan).

If this speculation is right though, it's certainly going to be another alternate take on the concept, like the new Nazca we got last arc or the current redo of Aku Aku's movie 5 forms, rather than tying into the existing anime or the closed game.

It could even be done in a way that just reuses the Animal Girls concept but avoids using any actual existing one and only features original characters. I'll be satisfied if we get the Keroro Friends for that arc though.

This story was almost certainly planned when Kemono Friends was going to end and they didn't expect the anime to be a huge success, so there wouldn't be any rush to tie into it. I guess there's the card game pack though, which is coming out next month and includes the Keroro Friends. If the arc starts immediately after this one, there would be some synergy with that.

They also could rush into it in order to jump on the bandwagon while the popularity is at its peak, but that could be seen as a cheap move. It did take a couple of years for Angol Fear to appear in the Keroro manga rather than doing the chapter as a Soul Calibur IV launch tie in.

Then again, Yoshizaki Mine did quickly throw a Keroro chapter in his old Space X Jubei manga, and the Keroro collaboration in the Kemono Friends Mobage was right after the first few months. So, his track record with this kind of thing is rather inconsistent.

Basically every project he worked on with some creative input (rather than just character design) has included references to his other work, aside from some old manga adaptations he worked on back during the 90s (like Dragon Quest Monsters and VS Knight Lamune).

I was honestly expecting something more special, but after seeing shows fall off the deep end for or by their finales for the last several years, having one that's good is always satisfying. Everyone showing up behind the owls to get Bag/Kaban out of the Cerulean was so cliche but damn if it wasn't cool to see everyone like that. And then the reveals afterward, and the interactions...

The main problem is that any appearance in KF anime related material is very unlikely as long as humanity's fate isn't confirmed for the anime setting and things still weren't answered by the finale here.

A time skip shouldn't be an issue though, since the platoon hasn't aged at all in more than 500 years (based on Keroro's flashbacks with child Mois).

So of course, Kemono Friends reminded me that this series existed and I only gave it a passing glance back in its heyday

Dimensional traveling could work as a Keroro chapter (and that overall seems even more likely now considering how Mine randomly threw in Serval, Kaban and Lucky Beast for that apology page, which shows he apparently can use them in the Keroro manga without issues), but it'd be really out of place as a Kemono Friends episode.

There's also how the anime in the end mostly avoided fictional friends. The only one was Tsuchinoko, and in that case it was seen basically as a standard animal, rather than focusing on the yokai legends associated with it. On the other hand, that whole tablet filter set up did seem kind of odd. It apparently was just found there rather than man made. I guess if they go with Sandstar being an alien creation, like that would suggest, it's possible they could throw in the Keroro platoon as exposition bots for a season 2, since it seems like otherwise nothing would ever get answered. Although the tablets or something similar could just take Friend form somehow (based on the gods from the game) and also give that exposition.

I think something fairly easy that would work with the Kemono Friends anime format would be drawing comparisons between Keroro and a frog, like the salt water thing, hibernation and humidity (or rather lack of). Maybe the group meets only Keroro initially and only actually believe that she's an alien by the end when she leaves with the others. In a scenario like that the viewer wouldn't even need to know Keroro.

From a Keroro chapter point of view though, there's tons of interactions that could be done just based on the genderswap aspect. I think the game collaboration actually showed that pretty well at least for Giroro and Dororo, like all the teasing that Giroro got and Dororo as a girl actually being popular. There's also the bit with Keroro telling the player that she makes for a perfect girl, although that wasn't actually part of the story itself. If it's a Keroro chapter, interactions with the human supporting cast also would be possible.

I never thought about it before, but unlike every other human character in the manga it seems like Tomosu and Kaneami are stuck with their signature outfits every time they're wearing generic casual clothing, rather than popping wearing different stuff every time.

Looking through their appearances now, the only variation of casual wear (not counting stuff like swimsuits and such) is a winter version of their outfits (long sleeves for both, different collar and a muffler for Kaneami in at least one of her appearances).

Keroro.com had as an Aprils Fools joke a new marketing campaign, "Joshi Kousei Keroro", which was just the Keroro platoon cross dressing as high school girls. The images are offline already though. The anime used to do crossdressing jokes all the time, although they seem much rarer in the manga.

Someone saw it and made some neat fanart of Keroro and Tamama Friends version dressed in those outfits.

The shade of green in Keroro's hair there almost mixes so well with the turquoise in her uniform sweater that I initially confused the former with the latter. It's great.

Cute-wise though, that gyaru-ish kouhai Tamama takes the cake, pun possibly intended. In that universe, she'd definitely look like the type of girl who'd be a LINEhead on her phone with multiple straps/charms hanging off it, and stickers (of sweets, natch).

Come to think of it, even though that particular one is based on a joke, it would be cool if there were more alt-outfit Friend art out there in general, Keroro Friends or otherwise.

Probably the latter. My copy of it and the volumes afterwards are all fine aside from the normal aging; even though they were bought new, they were printed forever ago.

But yeah, Tokyopop was never known for their consistent quality, and you likely wouldn't even have to leave this board to know why, considering their handling of some of the Gundam manga they published in English. Keroro got off lucky, though, it seems, and was generally treated nicely by them, given it was always one of their top sellers.

Once again, to any new peeps or lurkers:
What happens when these threads hit image limit is that, to help prevent fatigue from setting in, we generally reconvene 2 months later when the manga chapter after the next months' is posted unless someone else is really down for having one or for special occasions. It used to be every month or faster back when ComicWalker put out new chapters in English or when we had the 2014 anime shorts, but right now nothing new's really going on in Keroroland other than the manga and the KF related stuff, so yeah.
