Zexcs is primarily known for dumpster fire adaptions of light and visual novels to the lowest bidder including Hundred, Diabolik Lovers, Zero no Tsukaima F among other things over the years. They made an original mecha series in the early 2000s - Kikou Sennyo Rouran. It was bad.

Studio A-CAT has some mecha CG animation credits including Mazinkaizer SKL (which was good) and Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula (which was terrible). They don't really have much original work under their belt though. The one full length series they tried to get off the ground before this was a failed yurishit super robot series that didn't even make it into production (Choujikuu Robo Meguru).

The directors experience includes mostly bad ecchi comedy or bad slice of life series.

I dunno, of the 4 they have out right now (Gourai, Stylet, Jinrai, and Baselard) they all seem to have all the defining traits of their base designs. I think the only one that doesn't is the Materia, which I can understand since it's kinda hard to match inner frame detail on a mecha musume.

Which of the FAGs do you recommend?
Aesthetically, to me Gourai is the best by at least a head over the others, with Jinrai and Architect behind, but a bad model is a bad model. A kit can only be enjoyed so much if it pops like a gundam RG or is as posable as a resin GK.

The Gourai has those unfolding ankle treads that give it a lot of stability, which it needs. It can't hold up its own bazooka and has some pretty bad seam lines, Kotobukiya's typical ultra hard plastic, needs a lot of detail painting, and the articulation could be a lot better. But that said, it's par the course for Kotobukiya kits.

The worrying thing is the hilariously thin neck joint. You can try pinning it but if you're careful, it's not too bad. You can get Gourais for like 3000 yen now... it's worth trying.

Jinrai Indigo is easily my favorite of the ones I have. All the issues had basically been fixed by that point, and if you get a Boomerang Scythe set you have all the weapons from both the original and the Indigo versions, since it still comes with the expansion parts for that set.

That said, you might want to do some paintwork to give her a bodysuit, which is what I did. Tamiya German Grey over everything flesh tone below the neck will do nicely. Pic related, with the aforementioned Boomerang Scythe along with the thrusters and arms from a Propellant Tank Square to make holsters.

She comes with less armor and you'll need to get a gun for her, but I'd recommend getting a Jinrai rather than Gourai.

I have a Gourai, one of the first production ones. And I love the design but I remember when I was putting it together, the entire time I was just thinking "what the fuck?" at all the engineering choices. It's not an absurdly bad kit or anything. Kotobukiya has put out some BAD kits in the past and this is nowhere near that bad. But there was a lot of questionable choices going on.

Right now a cheap generic moeshit anime will sell better than an equally cheap generic mechashit show. A Frame Arms anime was never going to happer, specially a worthwhile one.

As much as many of us on /m/ prefer true mechs to mecha musume, there's nothing inherently superior about either. Just having robots doesn't doesn't by default give a work more artistic merit than having girls. God knows there's been plenty a flood in past times of generic shitty media that got away with it's quality just because it had mechs.
I want more quality mech stuff just as much as you, but let's not equate preferences with quality or integrity here.

I would agree if this were a comparison between a mech series and a girls series, but this is a mech series that has been TWISTED into a girls series.

For most normal mecha, you have to produce at least some good music, designs, or fights. I see musume as defaulting on the t&a for more guaranteed profit. It's not like other series haven't done this; even Gundam has shoved sex appeal into their shows for more cash. But it gets on my nerves when the sex literally takes over the show and replaces the mecha. It's no longer just a sideline attraction, it has literally eclipsed the original intent of Frame Arms.

So no, my preference isn't "higher quality", and it isn't "higher integrity" (although I have to wonder whether people who like these things are pedophiles). I'm not a moral crusader, just a fucking angry person who wants more mecha. I don't like that musume has hijacked other franchises and taken away their focus. How would football fans feel if the superbowl turned into four hours of babes posing in jerseys? Probably not very good.

That's an overly simplistic view. There's a reason some moreblobs are more successful than others. Be it bursts of great animation, outstanding and varied character design, snatching popular VAs or just plain smart marketing take as much craft as choreographing a fight or composing a dramatic OST.

But that's beside the point. There's been no indication that FA production is slowing down because of FAGs.

What problems should I look out for? I mean, it's finished but the only problem I had while building it was that her hips are kinda stiff. Do Gourai's problems apply for both versions or only the original?

she's got a tendency to say any number of x-ist statements and wears red hats all the time.

Joking aside, she's got polycap hip joints which have a tendency to get loose or pop out easily so she'll start leaning back if you don't take care of that. Starting with Stylet they included replacement ABS joints for that which fixed the issue. If you ever get a Materia, since she's on an entirely different hip joint scheme to Gourai and Stylet, you an just use the abs joints from her on Gourai without any issue. They MIGHT have included said abs joint with craftmanship gourai since she's a later kit, but it's possible they didn't.

As for the wrists, there's mention of them tearing from the sockets in the arms cause the socket is a bit tight, but I personally haven't had issues with that. You may want to pin the wrists with metal rods to reinforce it or sand down the insides of the socket a tad bit to loosen it up. Not too much though.

She has a couple issues. First off there is a sort of molding issue on the left hip joint with at least the first run of them (might have been fixed in future runs) where her leg pops off really easily. On later kits they include a new hip piece to fix this and people were using balden arms parts to replace the joint on gourai.

Next is the elbow and knee joints. They are stupidly tight out of the box and it is heavily suggested you sand them down a bit and mask them off if you paint as they crack very easily otherwise.

Her skirt also is a solid chunk of plastic that impedes articulation. Later kits added some hinges to the skirt to make moving flaps.

Finally, she has the worst hands of the lot. Its a simple one part polycap hand with attached balljoint that doesn't support weight very well. Later releases have a tiny joint instead of the balljoint but that created its own problems.

Overall if you can and have the money pick up an architect alongside it and swap their base bodies if you want a mildly improved gourai. You'll be stuck with the hands though.

They don't really come with any weapons or armor though. They are more of base bodies for customs and to scrap for basic limbs for your other fags.

Pretty much any are fine as a first except gourai. Just get whichever looks cool to you and remember to check prices as their price can fluctuate between production runs.

No. It sold out incredibly quickly. But from what I hear it is a bit disappointing, some of the pics are a bit small and while the work is really impressive nothing is astonishingly out of the box or anything. Apparently there's some in-depth stuff about useful tools and whatnot which sounds kinda interesting.

I preordered the FAG book though. I might end up scanning that although it'll be my first time scanning anything.

I have to say, if the other FAGs are better designed than Gourai, I'm really looking forward to Stylet and Jinrai.
This was a lot of fun to build, and aside from one ankle getting irrevocably stuck during test-fitting, and the neck peg being so tight that I had to maim it to get the whole thing fitting together, the kit was great.

Which FA/Gunpla fit each FAG's theme for a kitbash?

Gourai's is heavy(?) weaponry so something like Kagatsuchi/ Heavyarms, while Stylet would be planes like Delta and Zeta. Hres would be the 00/Quanta line with all the energy bits? Architect and Materia are just barebones and would work with pretty much anything.

Gourai, Stylet, Architect, Baselard and Hresvelgr are based off actual FA kits, or in Architect's case the bare frame. Materia and Innocentia aren't based on anything in particular, being bare bodies.

Jinrai is unique in that she's an upgraded Gourai, and while there are about five of those, none of them are named Jinrai or ninja-based.

Jinrai is based on a customized Frame Arms Gourai modeled by Fumikane years back that got featured in some hobby magazine iirc but was never an official release. Now that they're doing mecha-musme of frame arms they went ahead and made Jinrai one. Back when they were initially showing off Jinrai's lineart they had a pic of the custom frame arms in the display with it.

She's kind of a hybrid. She comes with a cannon that you can set up like Gourai's and a spare back hair part so that you can give her the same short hair as Gourai. Do that and she's a Gourai with pegs instead of holes on her arms, slightly thinner armor and no skirt.
