Probably just a visual indicator that they're both older, more mature, and more professional now. Remember that when they first showed up, they were both super green and barely out of their teens.

Rei's original coat was a ragged thing that looked really worn and cobbled together. His new one still has some of that rough look, but it also looks far newer and more durable.

Black Blood might have been boring, but YamiTeru was infuriatingly bad with how much wasted potential it had. Enhou in particular could've been really interesting, they could've bullshit a way to free a madou horror from mind control only to be torn between killing a friend or letting a horror loose -- adding some sort of drama arising from something other than the cardboard cast hating each other. Burai deserved a better show.

When YamiTera was airing, the thing I feared the most was that they would come up with a way to make Madou Horrors go back to being humans just in time to save Enhou, who was their friend. It's plain stupid that people could just stop being a Horror after the processes their body goes through during the possession. I guess this is a magic setting so they could bullshit their way around with anything they wanted, but people turned into Horrors being as good as dead is one of the main points in the whole franchise that I hope they'll never mess around with. I'd rather have a female Makai Knight than that. Besides, Madou Horror's case is already more dramatic than Inga Horror's. People who get possessed by Inga Horrors in a way or another just got what they had coming, hence the association with the concept of karma (karma in Japanase is called inga, although inga from Inga Horror uses different kanji). On the other hand, people who became Madou Horrors were simply chosen arbitrarily by Tousei. A top-notch Makai Knight like Tousei and someone whose mindset was the same as a Makai Knight like Enhou got turned into Horrors while under normal circumstances they would have never became like that. Having to kill people possessed by Inga Horrors is already sad, but having to kill Madou Horrors, who could have been 100% innocent, could be regarded as even sadder. Luckily, Ryuga and company didn't get to know the people who got turned Madou Horrors at a personal level, so it was easier for them to not think about their possible innocence. Until Enhou. Enhou was the only case of a completely rightful person confirmed by Ryuga and Rian who got turned into a Horror, so having to kill her, they really felt it. They went as far as to spare her once. For a Knight and a Priest to let go of a Horror because they know the person was innocent shows how much they were struggling inside.

I got into Garo about a year and a half back after someone posted some webms in a different thread and I thought it looked cool. Not all the seasons are on par with the best, but overall there's a LOT to enjoy within the franchise.

Different anon here. What made it somewhat underwhelming for me was the fact that some of its center plot points felt rehashed. Yuna was a lot like Rekka in RED REQUIEM, and Ring's community was like a downscaled Vol City in some aspects.

I think Garo specifically is a special case. One's worthiness to wear the armor comes more into play and blood relations are often key.

They also make a point of mentioning a couple times throughout the series that if an armor's bearer dies without having formally passed on the title or having a son who is a suitable heir, that the armor is lost indefinitely. It's why Rafael was so quick to take up Alfonso as an apprentice and how German justified his womanizing.

The previous Garo gave up the armour to the priests so it could be purified and its shine restored. He didn't give the title to a successor, but he gave up the title while he was alive and left the title and armour to be fixed and claimed in the future. I'll never understand how people can write about their fanfics as if they were the official version of the story. The Garo that preceded Ryuga sacrificed his life while releasing the golden bright of the armor in order to kill a very powerful Horror. The armor wasn't tarnished, so it didn't need purification, it just reverted to its original lead-color. Also, he sacrificed his life, so he definitely didn't give up his title while alive.

Looks pretty close to me, especially if you compare it to lead in its natural state. The thing is people tend to remember the armor a lot darker than it actually was. It's actually kind of hard to judge its actual color due to the reflectiveness of the material, but there's also the fact that it was mostly seen being used during night.

Not really. There's a lot of glare all over the armor picture, especially since that shot is just the armor floating in a void rather than a physical location. And even then areas without noticeable glare are darker than much of the lead clump. Other times there's little difference between the armor portions and the undersuit.

But the lead clump also has glare over most of it. I'd say that if the clump was in a very poorly lighted space like in your pic it would look a lot like the armor. And if you posted people calling it black to further back your point, that doens't really mean much as if anyone had to call its color on the spot would call it just black (me included) if I don't need to differentiate it from something darker. Basically, natural lead is black, just not a really black black, and same thing happens with YamiTera Garo.

Still, going with the whole sentence there, that would just mean that the "lead-colored" description from Roar of Steel is being disregarded, as they are also saying that that's the result of the armor releasing its shine rather than becoming tainted with anything. At the end of the day, the thing with GARO is that they don't care too much about all the tiny details, so it's not rare to find inconsistencies between various official sources. The point stands that >>15148480 was making shit up. YamiTera Garo armor got its shine released, so it reverted to its original color, be it lead, gray, black or whatever they decide, most probably based on art sense.

I just checked JP wikipedia, and while they call it a Horror, they later contradict themselves by stating that he's comes from a different lineage than Messiah, who's the originator of all Horrors. That last part about him not being a descendant to Messiah is actually official info that I've read in various sources, but I don't remember a single one addressing him as a Horror.

There are different ranks and origin for Horrors
陰我(素体)ホラー/Inga Horror. Grunts/blanks or whatever you call it.
魔獣ホラー/ Mazyu Horrors. Horrors that takes a form after possessing something, or powerful enough to have it's own different form. Legules, Ganon, Zedom, Zaji, Aomushi, and weekly features, etc. falls into this catagory
魔導ホラー/ Madou Horrors. Those which came from Zedom
使徒ホラー/ Apostles. Said to be the strongest 7 among the Mazyu Horrors.

Legules comes with different features unlike the bland originals, just like Zedom. At the end they are all Horrors.

I'm not the same as >>15154863, but I liked his style of posting stuff, so I'm copying it. If you read any Horror's description, they always care to call him either "(somethingsomething) Horror - Name" or they start the description with a sentences of the type "A Horror that...". Legules is the only one that's never called a Horror, and on top of that they state that he's not related to Messiah while stressing that she's the originator of Horrors. The logical implication is clear to me.

And on a side note, as has been previously said, all Horrors are Dark Beasts. However, the contrary isn't true. When they explain what are Horrors, they say that they are "Dark Beasts that lurk in the darkness" in the same way that you can say "Dogs are mammals that bark and drool." All dogs are mammals, not all mammal are dogs. All Horrors are Dark Beasts, not all Dark Beasts are Horrors. Some examples of things that could be called Dark Beasts while explicitly stated to not being Horrors are Zaji and the Barg.

So I'd only watched Garo, Makai Senki, and the early movies. Started watching the first Ryuga season today and I'm 11 episodes in; how come /m/ was shitting on it at the time? Doesn't seem so bad, although it does feel like a few things don't get enough time to develop (Enhou becoming a Horror, Takeru meeting Rui like once and then breaking down over her apparent death, etc).
Other than that the MotW scenarios have been okay (10 points for Nao Nagasawa in a Horror role, shame she stayed covered up for all of it) and Yasuaki motherfuckin' Kurata is a big bad. For the 10th anniversary of GARO, the HD Remaster reairing included an alternate audio track commentary by the GARO cast and crew, with tidbits and fun stuff related to the episode. On these three episodes we're releasing, the guests are Amemiya Keita (creator of Garo), Konishi Ryosei (Kouga) and Hijii Mika (Kaoru). As we've dropped the show, we have no plans to sub any further episode commentaries, but we figured someone might find these interesting.

This is the first of three scripts that we managed to do before the license got announced, the original idea being releasing the show with the commentary subtitled as an extra track. While I really highly doubt the american release for OG will have the 10th anniversary commentary track at all (or any extras for that matter), we'll take these down if that actually happens.

There's no regular audio or subtitle track included in these, it's just the commentary audio and its corresponding sub track. We did include portions of the original episode's dialogue wherever we deemed pertinent. Obviously, and it should go without saying, we recommend these for people who have actually finished watching OG at least once. This ep should be fine spoiler wise, but I believe ep 3 has some spoilers for the finale.

Something that's really bothering me is whenever ZERO gets hit or attacked, it's where he's heavily armored. Wouldn't it have made more sense for the horror in episode 3 to shoot ZERO in the dick?

Also the most recent episode would've made more sense for the Madouga to slice ZERO in the butt that was wide open and sticking out - but no it goes directly for the upper body armor.

I know suspension of belief but there's some comedy value to being shot in the dick and cut in the butt.
