from what I can see from the PV, OVA 5 will cover the manga until the Atlas destroys the suicide Komusai. So that should cover vols 4 and 5 more or less.

OVA 6 should cover the antarctic battle(vol 6)

OVA 7 should cover the Goufs VS Spartan battle(vol 7)

and OVA 8 should cover the rig infiltration, perhaps ending with Daryl speaking to Raven Fuu via newtype magic( vol 8)

That's if they don't cut or heavily alter some of these manga arcs. Have they confirmed the runtime for the episdoses yet? Some extra minutes would be nice

Manga vol 9 releases in a few days so they won't have enough material to animate another season for a long time, but maybe the author can churn out 2 more vols in 2017 for a S3 in 2018

Plus Gundams weren't a thing just for newtypes. Feddies handed them out enmasse to anyone who could pilot one with reasonable skill hence why every fucking series has some retard mongaloid piloting one.

I think the only series we got set in UC where the Gundam pilot isn't an outright spaz is Thunderbolt. Banana/Amuro/Kou/Kamille/Judau were all saved by their suits for the majority of their early careers and got fucking lucky they weren't stuck in something like a GM where any bottom line MS pilot could have killed them.

They're not so big that they can use mountains as hulldown cover. In fact, a legged MS is superior in mountainous terrain, in can even lay down prone. The whole point of a tank is to be be low down and mobile simultaneously. In the open plains, you'd be force to build a taller hull-down dirt hill or deeper trench for a stupid tank-with-torso MS than you would an actual tank. Not to mention the impossibility of camouflage.

In a universe where giant legged mecha is practical, even that shit is ridiculously impractical.

Not really; he's a daredevil adrenaline junkie that's been fucked up by the war that destroyed his home. He's a victim. He may seem like an asshole, but only because he fully understands the gravity of the Moore Brotherhood's situation and knows there's no easy way to come out on top without mass casualtiers. His adrenaline-fueled rage has become a coping mechanism, not his default. Now that the war's over, he's mellowed out a bit and actually mingles in pretty well with the Spartan crew.

Meanwhile, Daryl, at first glance, seems a lot more likable and mellow at first, but he's very much like Io, only far less honest about it, and there's less hope for him to recover from the war. The Psycho Zaku and the thrill he got from piloting it, coupled with the feelings of helplessness he got from losing his limbs, has poisoned his psyche into becoming as much of a rage-fueled adrenaline junkie as Io is (just look at them scream at each other during the final act, and how absolutely glee-filled his face is as he fights.) The fact that he willingly gave up his last hand just to pilot the Psycho Zaku means he has nothing left but war. An end to the fighting is his worst nightmare. Even his attempts to rehabilitate science-waifu are somewhat motivated by what she can do for him in terms of bringing back the feeling he got in the Psycho Zaku.

Io only SEEMS like an asshole, when he's actually a victim on the path to recovery much like Daryl, but unlike Daryl, his path seems to have a brighter future (at least currently.)

Stardust Memory is a very, very over-the-top commentary on the dangers of right-wing fundamentalism. The fact that the Delaz Fleet succeeded isn't meant to be seen as inspirational; they buttfucked the future for spacenoids in the name of their own twisted brand of "justice," giving way for the far-right aspect of and military officials and politicians within the Earth Federation to take power.

If Gato comes off as an inspirational take on the hotblooded honorable samurai archetype, it's because he's meant to showcase how that type of individual is dangerous on the political spectrum, not because he's meant to be the one your rooting for.

well to be fair the Federation almost entirely abandons the Guntank concept within a couple years of the OYW ending, except for the Loto(which is honestly more of a very large Petite Mobile Suit designed for a very specific purpose than a proper Mobile Suit) and the F-50D Guntank R-44 which was a complete failure of a design
