The season so far has been pretty slow moving and uninteresting. The biggest problem is that the paladins hop from revelation to revelation without their characters actually advancing.

You do get some amazing sequences like pic related though.

I just finished watching season 2. Really solid for the most part and the last episode is amazing. Paul Blart was the best new character.

Who's the mechanical designer for Voltron? Does Voltron have a mechanical designer? The proportions remind me of Aldnoah mechs, but the wings are pure Gundam.

Also, fighting against those cluttered starscapes is working against them visually, especially a red-and-purple-and-lights mech against a red-and-lights background. It makes the so-so CGI look even worse.

Shiro, Keith, and maybe Allura got all the coolest scenes. Like those mind battles and hallucinations. Lance got maybe a dribble of possible upcoming development, while Hunk slid back into 'lol food' almost the entire season. Pidge stood out to me in the first season somewhat, but this time she's just kinda flatlined.

I really appreciate the way this show makes each Lion individually useful, and holds off showing Voltron just enough to make the stakes feel that much higher when he shows up. Really sets it apart from standard monster of the week stuff. Maybe the original was similar, but my immediate go-to comparison is Sentai/PR where the individual mecha are pretty useless.

He seemed on the verge of self realisation in the prison episode, but then he got a chance to make a shot no-one else could have and Shiro validated Lance's view of himself as a sharpshooter so he didn't think about it anymore despite the fact Lance being a good shot is not something that came up before or since.

Maybe next season will give him more growth if Shiro stays gone and he has to make the Black Lion accept him though. Which will be dumb anyways, since rather than shuffling the Lion piloting positions around to accommodate Allura or whoever they draft in, with Keith going from Red to Black while Lance goes from Blue to Red and the Blue Lion takes in the newbie they should really just eliminate one step and give the newbie Red.

Not that I like that idea anyway, since I think it undercuts the idea of the pilots forming a deep and special bond with their Lions based on personality and experience if they just play shuffle with them anytime something happens. I'd prefer Red becomes the new head and Black either becomes a subordinate or is outright replaced with a new colour so that the Lions and Voltron better reflect the changes if they're going to change the line up, though I recognise that isn't going to happen and would be hard to implement at best, since Black is physically different due to the wings.

Actually that was the third occasion Lance made a key perfect shot. First was when he almost died in the hostage situation and second was in the season 1 fight on the balmera.


Over all I loved the season, it's a toss up which season is better but I might pick this one because Pidges arc to become part of the team during the hostage situation was a little boring. Hunk and Pidge took a back seat this season because they had their development arcs already in S1 and Keith/Lance/to a lesser extent Shiro hadn't yet. Lance is due for his arc next season.

Blazing sword, new weapons, and all of episode 13 was perfect. My only gripe is Alura went from worst character to literal space racist monster. Her treating Keith like shit because he's part Galra was fucking unforgivable cunt behavior. Kill her and leave us with Coran, the gorgeous man.

I think some people still forget this is actually a Kid's show. Don't get me wrong, i would enjoy some more plot-relevant scenes, than some Random mermaids. But It was still entertaining, and that already counts for me.
This show actually holds up quite well, If you want to watch It as a análise adultos, but just stop confusing him for some Gundam or a deeper sentai thing.

At least he didn't fall for "Monster of the week." premise.

Also, the only reason he didn't hold a grudge this season is because he recalled a Galra helped him escape - so he knew they could be acting straight and without setting a trap. My bad, misread your post. I can see what you mean but I imagine what you are describing is difficult for a show that is entirely digital. I'm pretty sure those sketchy effects, unless you go super crazy with it like the gif you posted, are difficulty to do it with anything but traditional animation. This series loves to do tons of new backgrounds and backdrops that are rather pleasant to the eye but I imagine that really hurts the budget. I felt like the budget was more visible this season or they used a new Korean animation studio because some of the flash in this season got a bit jarring. Namely I'm referring to when the paladins drift out of their seats unconscious in the finale, that looked REALLY bad.

I personally loved that scene and want to find a clean shot of it without subtitles so I can use it as a wallpaper. I'm a sucker for that effect.

What the fuck is with the animation this season. Was S1 this weird looking?

It's fine a lot of the time and often good in spots but there's a lot of still frames and moments where it looks like they're just sliding the cel (I know it's not a cel but I don't know how to describe it) and the depth layering is just really jarring.

I don't know how to put in words but the way the show looks just comes off as cheap and weird.

Golion isn't as good as Voltes V or Raideen, but it definitely has its charms.

Basically, it's like Flash Gordon meets Japanese Super-Robot.

I also highly recommend Dairugger XV, the anime that Vehicle Voltron was adapted from. It's better than Golion/Lion Voltron in my opinion because it has 3-dimensional villains; some of whom are actually decent people, but caught in a intergalactic war due to misunderstanding and suspicion.

Well duh. If they were faithful to the original show it would have been a guy named Sven, and he never died in the first place. The very existence of Shiro is a departure. If he actually dies, that wont be following the original show, that will be another departure.

Some of the foreshadowing they've introduced here is pretty obvious. Deathflags all over the place, naming Shiro after the guy who died in Go Lion, people being in their color matched lion, Keith not being the leader, etc.

Honestly, I don't even think Shiro is dead, and he's going to be back, but for god's sake I don't understand this attachment to Shiro. He's not even that great of a character and even if he was dead, or gone, the show can easily go on without him.
