Well i already knew IBO would have a sad ending since the beginning.

In the end the true hero of the show will end up being Gaelio and the show message will be to never take the easy way. Hopefully they can deliver in the end.

This is probably going to be one of the bigger weaknesses of the show. The show spent most of it's runtime treating Mikazuki like a extra in his own show. He has his negative qualities and disturbing moments, and at times it feels like they're trying to shill him. He's a tragic figure with subtle development, but I don't really feel the attachment to him that the show wants me to feel.

Eugene is more underutilized and thrown into the background than not developed. He's actually changed quite a bit.

Characters who have changed yet still all have bad writing are:
Orga ( confidence has slowly turned into blind neuroticism, uncertainty, nearly suicidal desperation)
Mikazuki (was a lot more casual and fine in the beginning, has slowly become a vegetable, more extreme, also marked with more desperation to his detriment for orga's sake)
Shino (went from ...uh, being ok with being a leader to now being afraid of being a leader i guess, also afraid of how he interacts with new recruits, that's about it)
Akihiro (human debris slowly opens up, very ...very slowly)
Merribit (went from wanting to do shit about how fucked up the tekkadan kids were to just being resigned that she can't do shit)
Eugene (biggest dissenter in the first few episodes, butted heads with orga, wanted to man up and become a reliable leader with orga instead, became just that, now licks orga's asshole for the most part and is shown as pretty responsible and serious)
Atra and Kudelia kind of developed too.

As far as Tekkadan goes that's all we've got. Ride's always been desperate to prove himself and courageous, Yamagi's always been sweet and taciturn and helpful, Chad got featured a bit more, that's about it. And in spite of all of this, it's all still very shoddily written.

It's not a flop over there, but it's also not super popular either. It does suffer from low ratings but it's doing alright. It's performance is undermined somewhat by the successes of Build Fighters and G-Reco though. Both shows had similar video sales to IBO, Build Fighters had strong gunpla sales, G-Reco gets a lot of art cred and had above-average ratings for it's timeslot, and neither show had the amount of promotion IBO has.

Hello, I'm the anon from the other thread that was going on about AV and the medical tech.

I've come to continue the inference train, all aboard please.

I mentioned that someone must have had the idea to use regen tech, but it never worked on Mars. I thought it was funny how they went out of their way to tell us the tech on Earth is better. Either it's a throw-away remark, or they want us to realize that this tech is what allows someone to graft three whiskers, some kind of sensory suite, and a life support system to someone as old as Ein.

It may be that McGillis is one of the only people that knows how Ein is actually given the AV. which means if he so pleases he can create an army of Mikas if he realizes what's up. There might be an extreme power creep.

If Mika catches wind that he can be completely grafted in to Barbatos without any risk you know he'd do it in a heartbeat, especially at this point. I imagine that could cause some serious friction with Orga. They're already starting to argue about how much Mika should use himself up.

Anyone else that thought the same thoughts as me, so far?

It's implied that only Gjallarhorn has the know-how to implant three whiskers without any implant rejection. Seems like it's a close-guarded secret, much like the technique for producing new Ahab Reactors. Last episode made it clear that McGillis wants to get AV surgery in order to pilot the Baal. At the rate Mika's going, he's probably gonna be a vegetable by the end of the series. Either that or some deus ex machina happens where he gets full control of his body back but unable to utilize the AV system anymore.

Anyways, I'll get around to my main point I've been building up, which is that Vidar is Ein in a prosthetic body

We're not given the details, but I feel like it's a reasonable guess to assume that the AV system came out of a near complete understanding of the nervous system.

In the case of Ein, we've seen they're able to map every outgoing and incoming single to his brain. His Graze gave him his sense of sight and sound. Apparently there was a voice synthesizer on board, we get to see Ein as he screams out MONSTER at Mika and he's completely motionless. Either way, we can boil it down and say at the end Ein is controlling his Graze with the power of his mind.

When a complete AV installation is done in the case of EIn, it seems like the candidates are able to have 1 to 1 control over their mech, in the sense of "think move arm, arm moves how you want it", sort of in the way we move our arms, right?

We've seen the AV system in a few different vehicles, and while we've never got to see the "guts" of it, I'd like to think that one of the main factors that determines the size of these vehicles is the human you're loading inside of it.

If they're able to truly understand the AV system, maybe they were able to attach to the brain directly, instead of bothering with lower parts of the spinal column. Naturally, if your "human" component is the size of a brain, then you can load it in to a human sized body no problem.


They tell us that Vidar has been trying to deal with some kind of strange feedback while piloting his mech. Before, he was just a torso with its nervous system shut off, so the AV system didn't give him much trouble, but now it might be trying to swap between two "bodies". Good think he's a robot, otherwise he'd be dealing with the same shit as MIka.

To be serious though, I'd like to find out how much Rastall knows about McGillis and his motives, but if he suspects at all that McGillis killed Gaelio, he can exploit that. He can guess whether or not there was remorse involved, but in spite of that, being confronted with a ghost that walks and talks exactly like a man you've personally killed would be very unnerving, don't you think? Some of the Turbine girls get really uneasy when they see Ein moving in his Grave because of how fast it is, almost like it's alive or something. Could you imagine that coming at you wearing the face of a dead man?

Anyways, part of this all stems from the ambiguous defeats of Ein and Gaelio that we were shown.

They're both stopped after they take a stab center of mass. Most of us are assuming one of those two survived.

I think it's Ein. Before Mika has even won the fight, Orga has sent out a battlewide broadcast telling everyone else the war is over and they just need to survive now. Mika seems like he's actually about to kick the bucket, but Orga yells at him, and finishes the fight. We don't get told about the state of the body inside the Graze, but the fight's over.


When McGillis and Gaelio are fighting, McGillis is goes full evil villian, tauned Gaelio and Ein, and talking about how he'll take good car of Gaelio's sister. I like to think this is because he knows it'll make the fight easier. Don't you think if half of that shit he said got out though, his plans would come tumbling down completely? I think after the battle was over, McGillis made sure to tie up the loose ends.


Don't you think it was interesting how Julieta says it didn't look like Vidar was actually fighting for revenge?

I can't find my screenshot of it at the moment, but if you look like 1 second before your pic it shows a closeup of the stab and he actually hit just to the side of the cockpit, which is in the center of the torso.

Basically he stabbed one of the reactors, not the cockpit.

Center of the chest, the armor piece in the middle slides and pitches forward while a hatch piece folds back. You can see it in th efirst episode where Coral goes out and tells Crank an the other to get ready to sortie. They're standing around an open graze cockpit.

Exactly, there was no brain anymore to give instructions to the machine, it wouldn't have stopped otherwise. AV itself works as sort of a life support, which means there is a feedback that sustains the life of a dying brain for a few minutes, just enough to get Ein's brain out of there and preserve it in some way. I have no idea who would have done it, or why would anyone get the idea to take the guy's brain out for future use. Maybe they just saw him as a valuable test subject and then Rustal somehow managed to get his hands on the brain. Ein is at most part of Vidar system now, most of him died when Mika pierced through his cockpit.

No, there must have been at least a few months between the S2 greenlight and alternation of the last ep. This series is written on the go, by the way, and plenty of changes are being placed "at the last minute" on a regular basis. Although that "last minute" is actually several weeks of advance. You're not taking into account the schedule the show is being produced on, they're already have eps 41-42 scripted, that's four weeks of advance. By the time they were planning Ein's plot line, they already knew S2 would be made, thus adjusted the events to accomodate the three pilots living. You can tell by the way their defeat was foreshadowed, as in, it wasn't at all. There was no dramatic build up for their "deaths" and no time for the tragedy to resound.

Staff interview from twitter, from long long time ago. I didn't save the info and it was quite complicated so I don't really get it myself, but at the time of Masahiro's death someone on the staff said the AV sort of "pulled out" most of his consciousness and didn't allow him to succumb to the blood loss for a few minutes which is why he says to Akihiro "my mind feels so clear all of a sudden". The poster didn't really explain it well so it's a bit of a mess, but it seems like the AV for a short period of time acts as a brain sustaining device.

We can assume it's the same as the other Graze, except that it's way bigger. Even though Ein is in a cockpit that he doesn't need, it still seems normal sized, right? That's a lot of space for things like armor, or maybe life support. This really got me thinking. I'll expand on this shortly.

That's what she said, but in the end she made the ending exactly like she wanted, with shitton of Tekkdan's dying, the only difference is that no named characters died. She said "Orga is acting reckless and gets into more and more dengerous situations, this can lead to dangerous places, I'm worried how they can pull out of it" of course I'm paraphrasing. In the end it's what happened, he threw them into a suicide mission and indeed plenty of them died so it was a bitter sweet ending for Tekkadan.

The only time non-cockpit shots kille dthem is when they got hit by a big and heavy weapon like barbatos's mace and it shook up or crushed the whole MS from the impact.

Only the limbs on graze Ein are bigger. The torso and pelvis are actually the same size as the regular graze.

Ein being Vidar sounds interesting in theory but doesn't make sense from a story telling perspective unless we get something crazy like Vidar is Ein's mind in Gaelio's body.

I hadn't really paid attention to the proportions so I figured this is something I should really look at before going on.

I took some line-arts and rescaled in paint them to see if I could get what you were talking about, and you're definitely right.

One thing I noticed that's really weird is that if that part in the center is the cockpit, it actually has less armor on the Ein-graze. Why?

I had originally thought of something like this but thought that assuming both Ein and Gaelio "survived" would be completely insane, but you anons in this thread have been giving me some great ideas. What if both Ein and Gaelio survived, in world where humans have figured out how to essentially map out the brain's signals and apply them to any body at all?

Of course, there's some very good story telling reasons for all this, I just want to make sure at least a bit of my evidence is admissible before I start going completely ham.

My guess is it's pointless?

One thing that was obvious with the Ein Graze is it was built for agility more than anything. That was the main advantage of a full AV link that you have 1:1 feedback/synch on all movements so despite it's size it was erratically leaping around like a maniac.

Furthermore if I remember the thing also packs tracking auto cannons in it's under shoulders so the thing is probably built for blitzing your opponent without letting them even blink.
