OP, if you're going to educate yourself, do it right and watch the shows. I'm barely starting on it myself, as I got through 0079 a little while ago and am right now a little over halfway through Zeta. I watched other Gundam works here and there, but I'm taking the time to go through it now.

Do yourself a favor and don't be a gay, if you're really a mecha fan go watch the shows.

And yes, watch them in production order, not chronologically.

Then don't. The only way to know about UC is being a man and watching it. And even though I watched all UC anime I still feel like I barely scratched the surface, but I'm not man enough to get into novels and manga.
