*** THERE IS NO "GUNPLA GENERAL" DISCORD SERVER. IGNORE AND FILTER THE TRIPFAG (!jyii1UI8x.) THAT SAYS OTHERWISE. THERE IS ONLY A TEXT CHANNEL ON THE /m/ DISCORD: https://discord.gg/TGjVRAG ***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 2/1/17 [tentative]
Submissions go to
[email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

Can anyone who has the HG Hyakuren tell me if it has a full inner frame like other IBO kits?

I hate it's design and the show but it's a cheap kit and I kinda want to use it as a base for a non-Gundam related model of powered armor with similar proportions, and if it has an inner frame that'd make things a lot easier.

Also I saw a pic of it in someone's hand that made it look unusually small for 1/144, is it actually shorter than most kits?

Pretty cool overall. Unlike the Gipsy, he doesn't really have inner frame outside of the torso. Hands can be swapped between the closed fist and open hand with simple jointed fingers. Elbow only bens 90° though. Batteries and switch for the LED are at the top of the head and the cover is just held on by a battery cap.

Hunh, it's different from the YMS-09 Variant and canonically has a more boxy build than the standard Dom.
It's even still available at a shop I have significant points left over at. I just may have to pick it up with the 2-type Guncannon (and theme it after the Shadow Fox.)

you can straighten warped resin parts by submerging them in hot (not boiling) water and straightening before cooling

>>
>>15105570
Thanks for the answer. My last question would be when you wash/rinse in ultrasonic what solution do you use?
>>
>>15105570
I was mostly browsing through plastic kits and conversions for 1/144 since I'm too much of a baby to work with Resin and I haven't branched out of the scale. It's easy to find things that are well known like Exia R3 or BTF Full saber but it took me a long while to find the MMF XN Raiser kit, or the knockoff Exia Ignition. I was probably trying too hard though, odds are there's an easier way to find things and I haven't accidentally walked into it yet. It doesn't help that I don't really have a set idea of what I'm looking for, but as far as I know there's not really a repository for "these are third party kits china has made" bar whatever Samueldecal advertises.

I only have experience with the Hygogg, but that one is quite fun to pose.
The main problem with posing it is weight management, as the body does not have quite enough mass to offset the arms if they are stretched out too far from the center of gravity. But this can in turn be counteracted by placing one of the arms in a different direction for counterbalancing or placing it on the ground to give that arm a bracing pose.

There is no waist movement and my kit had loose knee joints that i still need to fix. But so far I have had more trouble being creative enough with the tentacle arms' possibilities than actual problems getting the suit to match what I come up with.
I've heard some bad reviews of the Z'Gok E. In particular that the scaled sections are rigid poles, but I haven't touched one myself.

It certainly is much better than the squat original, but the MS design itself is pretty derp. You're really working hard to squeeze blood from a stone (but it shows good craftsmanship).

I love alclad, but I'm trying to see if my hobby shop can start stocking vallejo metal color for that very reason. From what I've seen it looks nearly as good as alclad, from what I've heard it airbrushes beautifully, and best of all its water based so you can handbrush with it too for touchups or small areas (it warns about handbrushing large areas with it causing uneven finish).

Just finish HG MK II Titans. Sorry for bad quality pic. Whats the highest sand paper grit i should get for nub marks?
>>
>>15108325
you want to clip parts of fthe runner, then use an exacto to cut the nibs flat. paper wont work in removing the nibs as you run the risk of sanding the plastic around the nib. this looks like shit with darker pieces.

ideally, you want to flatten the nib with a blade, then glue the parts together along the seam. after the seam has dried completely, you can cut off the excess glue, and sand it down flat, filling in uneven areas with contour putty, and sanding it down once it dries. from there, you paint.

if you arent going to paint, dont worry about sanding, just use the blade. less damage that way, and looks much cleaner
>>
>>15107981
yeah but that barely looks like it shares parts with the Ground GM mold.
>>
>>15108401
No, the reason i want to know is because i cut the piece off the runner, use knife to remove nub but it still leaves a mark. some poeple say run your finger nail over it, which helps, but its still noticeable. I wont be getting rid of seamlines or painting anytime soon, I just do relatively quick and relaxing snap builds for fun. I may paint in future, but not yet. Dont have the money or equipment.

I bought the Lightning Gundam Zeta for $14 on ebay.

Did i do good?
>>
>>15108414
desu, painting and glue is fairly cheap. spray cans run about $3per, and glue and putty run $5.

i would imagine the sharper the blade, the mor elikely you are to actually cut the plastic, rather than pulling it, which is why the plastic turns white/tints.

a sharper blade is more liekly to cut through the plastic, preserving the color underneath.
i would imagien running a nail over it is good for checking smoothness. if all else fails, model master sor whatever has a 10 sheet sandpaper set, with rough to polish grit, like 600grit max. you wont be polishing, but itll be fairly smooth. any higher, and theres comes a point where its taking a smooth surface, and applying a subtle matte to it.

idk, i really dont like sanding kits im not going to glue or paint.

those crazy turbines
>>
>>15108867
quick thoughts on this thing:
- everything needs paint, as it comes molded only in black and white
- similarly, masking is a must for the front flap and the rear, as well as the turbines in the back
- every piece and section you want to attach needs superglue
- the canopy is clear plastic, painting it with clear blue is really hard to pull off if you are using a brush
- its comes with A SHIT TON of decals, I just used a few ones
- the wheels do spin!

Works fine, but looks a little bit thicker and it's harder to get a good chrome so most settle for something like aluminum or silver.

The main difference with airbrushing it is you spray it on much thinner and can build it up in thinner coats as well as adjust how deep/dark you want the color because of it (You just spray on less layers).

Posted in /toy/s gunpla general too.

Just finished my first MG in over a decade. I used to do a bunch of HGs of mostly Gundam Wing and G Gundam stuff back in middle school. I did do one MG of Shining Gundam and remember having a very tough time with it. The RX-78-02 was a very enjoyable build and got me back on the plastic crack addiction. Just got done order the Gundam Mk II 2.0 as my next kit. AEUG version. I want to pick up the RX-79 Ground Gundam and the RX-93 Nu Gundam. I'll probably need to get some Zakus and Char's Sazabi if I'm gonna also get Nu. Oh what a slippery slope.

Don't bully, it's my first MG in a decade and I still need to panel line it and build the weapons. Any good recommendations for getting rid of nub marks?

When you pick up the Nu and Saz, get the Ver. Ka versions. The original MGs are very dated and don't look anywhere near as good.

The one i've build and the ones ive seen are all 1/72. My gunsniper is about as tall as a 1/144 gunpla. although its way longer and a bit wider. The ligers ive seen built seem WAY bigger than my gunsniper though and they are both 1/72 i believe. That could just be case the liker was bigger in the show or somthing idk.

The proper scale is 1/12. Everything else is a knock off not made by Bandai.

Pretty sure he's trolling considering his suggested scale is "1/12", which for a zoid would be something like the size of a small bike depending on the zoid.

Frustration hit hard with real life stuff this week, couldn't get anything done and wasted a fuck ton of time in factorio.

No problems here except I did some nasty proportion mistakes in this piece and the previous lower chest one, You'll see that it doesn't match with the reference pic anymore but I measured it, it's fine.

2bh I don't know If I can handle the skirt. All the pieces flow so perfectly together. I don't know what to do right now. Maybe I'll do the thighs.

Also realized that I've been doing this for over a month now, time sure flies.

When should one be using MLT as oppossed to Mr Color Thinner ? Is there a flow chart for choosing which is better for a given situation?
>>
>>15112979

there are extremely few circumstances where regular thinner is better, and you should always get the 400 bottle of leveling
>>
>>15112823
After seeing the inner frame Im kind of wishing I picked it up too (Currently detailing a few areas on Cherno to cover gaps before I get ready to paint). Too late now though, he's sold out basically everywhere that isn't charging scalper prices.

Maybe Max Factory will do reprints given how well they seem to have sold, although I doubt it since I don't recall them doing reprints of anything yet.
>>
>>15112989
I'll sell my soul for a Striker Eureka kit
>>
>>15112983
Curiously, what are those few instances?
>>
>>15112993
I'm thinking that they were waiting to see how well Cherno and Gipsy sold before working on Crimson and Striker. Of course, it took like two and a half years from the initial dysplay to finally releasing them so I wouldn't expect a release anytime soon. Max Factory likes to take its time on releases.

>Romeo Blue and Tacit Ronin never
>>
>>15112979
Mr.Leveling thinner is better as it has self leveling properties that result in a smoother, more even finish. That stuff is gold if you're airbrushing Mr Color or Tamiya.

Just don't ever try to handbrush it.
>>
>>15113006
How about enamels? Thanks in advance.
>>
>>15112998

In instances where you would want the paint to dry as quickly as possible. For example in a military model where you are using paint with a matte paint finish you may not want it to stay wet for as long. But for basically everything we do, leveling is always better.
>>
>>15113020

this is not used for enamels at all and will not work with it at all. Never cross-use shit for lacquers and acrylics with enamels.
>>
>>15112823
>shit sold out everywhere
brb killing myself for not preordering it
>>
>>15113020
Enamels are oil based. Do not use lacquer thinner on them, it won't work.

If thinned properly they can be handbrushed just fine, although they have long-ass drying times between coats and you really got to let them cure properly before topcoating.

Can't speak for the Gipsy, but for Cherno unless you are a massive fan of the movie or jsut had to have the design, you probably would have been fairly disappointed with the kit for the price on it. It's got several gaps and areas where you can see the pegs and in some ways the $20 Neca figure was better articulated. Overall the Gipsy looks to be the better of the two but Cherno has the cooler LED setup.

When you clip the pieces from the runner, use a hobby knife to remove the rest of the nubs.

Carefully shave the nubs off with an X-Acto blade, being careful not to gouge out any plastic. The sharper the blade, the less mark it will leave.
