Yutaka Izubuchi was involved with Do You Remember Love, and had a much larger role as principle designer for WiTP.

Fumihiko Takayama directed WiTP, but had previously done storyboards and episode direction for SDF Macross, as well as a host of other things inbetween.

More than enough to say that the "UNT Spacy" seen plastered everywhere are just Macross references.
