I finally figured out what makes this show with Fukuda behind it different from others where Morosawa is also writing (besides the fact that Fukuda isn't directing here, but producers call the shots in tv anyway so it's basically his show).

Every character in Cross Ange has an understandable motive. Some are utterly simplistic yes (like Chris's "I'm going to change sides because unlike you, Embryo pays attention to me"), but you never at any point are going "why is this person doing what they're doing?" The internal logic for every character's actions is solid.

Unlike in SEED Destiny, where half the time I didn't know why characters were on the side they were and why they kept doing stupid shit other than "the plot said so"

I agree with A and B, but I think you're misunderstanding Ange's meaning in C. She's really saying that she's in no position to return the hospitality she's been given in dragonland: if Slamalamadingdong ever visited bitchy-Earth, they wouldn't be able to have round 2.
