Mazinkaiser, among with many other shows from late 90s/early 00s, was mostly finished in computers. To make a proper release you'd need to re-scan everything (if the negatives still exist) and re-apply all the effects they used in the anime with better resolution. We'll never get a proper release of either this or GR Armageddon. And who knows how many other shows. I'd love a full HD version of Gatekeeper's opening, for instance, but I guess that'll never happen.

Both Mazinkaiser and Armageddon are cel productions. I can't remember any digital effects.

I'm xPearse. I don't think anybody else is really interested in encoding or creating a torrent for Mazinkaiser or much else I do, either.

Anyhow, the dub was very boxy so I might as well start downloading the DVDs before the raws finish downloading so we can have better quality dub audio, too. The 2nd episode finished downloading today so I'll encode that to get it out of the way, or encode another Casshan episode after the one I'm doing now is done.

Don't worry. I'm also interested in having this in the better quality possible, as far as they file size is reasonable. I'll trust you to know if the HRS version is good enough or if it's better to download your rip.
Btw, there's also a Getter Robo Armaggedon rip I found if it interests you. Full HD as well (1440x1080). It looks more or less as the Mazinkaiser release, since the BD release is also an upscale, but it looks decent enough. Google this:

Arearaw is a great place for... well, RAWs, btw. This are already ripped, though, it's not the original Bluray files, but it's the best I could find. The uploadable mirrors at least are up, didn't check the others.

I agree, they're the same quality as the Armageddon BD. That said, it's a tragedy. Mazinkaiser and Armageddon are great looking late era cel OVA and deserved much better. Two nukes weren't enough.

It's likely that the nips themselves lost the masters, so even if they wanted to do a proper release, they wouldn't be able to.

Well, seeing how Armageddon already has an encode with the dual-audio and such (which is that nyaa encode that doesn't have a 100% seeder anymore, I might add), I might as well simply download that, uploaded it to MEGA and then add the torrent to nyaa. Much simpler than going through all the hassle myself. Simples.

Then again, that'll be one thing off the encoding list for the community, but the BD raws are also on animebytes so I could encode it myself if need be.


Also, BD releases are freeleech so if you're interested, I'd recommend to download it yourself to get it right away. Or, you could just wait for the eventual nyaa torrent and MEGA DL.

As for that German release. Well, it is good for its size and in 1080p, but there is a quality difference and crushed blacks compared to my encode especially noticeable in the night scenes. Not really that big of a problem and they are usable, but I think I'll just encode my own.

I'll post one or two examples just for interest, though.
