Why didn't CCA Char just use economic incentives to convince people to come to space?
>>
>>15088928

Because it's hard to make someone doing that a villain, and even harder to punch it to death as a problem. Also because Char was a rather rash and dumb person, who didn't want to wait any length of time for change. And finally because it'd be hard to force Amuro to fight him over his bruised ego using economics.
>>
Because Char was a passionate idealistic madman and a soldier, not a politician.

Also IRL we're finally at the point where Solar and Wind are starting to out-compete fossil fuels but greedy idiot lobbyists and corrupt idiot politicians will fight to keep destroying the planet for decades to come.

Fucking Taxi and logistics lorry drivers want to ban self driving cars for at least 50 years despite the huge life saving and economic benefits. I mean fuck the biggest real problem with self driving cars is going to be shortages of donor organs because of the reduction in road deaths.

Idiots will always fight progress, culling them with meteors knowing that things will work themselves out long term isn't a completely horrid idea.
>>
>>15089024
Except for the "extinguishes all multicellular life on the planet" part. Wasn't Axis significantly larger than the Chicxulub impactor?
>>
>>15088928
Because Char is a newtype and newtypes are autistic.

Several reasons
>There wouldn't be any cool robot battles in CCA.
>Diplomacy doesn't exist in Gundam.
>Space colonies have no economic incentives (they were made specifically to keep the riff-raff off of the motherplanet).
>Char is a sociopath.
>>
>>15089097
People kept moving to space even though there was like a 90% chance of getting genocidered by someone or another during the OYW/Titans era, throw in a generous relocation allowance and people would be falling over themselves to live on Side Whatever.

Toppest kek. The Germans are currently sinking the most recent attempt by refusing to expand the elecricity carrier network. Probably because pumping all that electricity into the EU-wide network would upset EU regulations and would force them to sit down and ask for re-negotiations from a position of weakness.

Meanwhile, in the US, shale oil was basically temporarily pushed out of the market by the Saudis selling their crud for small change.
>>
>>15089101
I dunno, asteroids made of solid gold are probably pretty decent motivators. And hey, if your asteroid made of solid gold tanks the market, you can sell lunar titanium to assholes.

Or just make zero-g pornography.
>>
>>15089107
Being turned into a barren, lifeless wasteland is probably bad for the long-term health of the planet, is all I'm saying.
>>
>>15089105
>People kept moving to space even though there was like a 90% chance of getting genocidered by someone or another during the OYW/Titans era

I'd imagine that the multiple colony drops that blew Australia and North America up had something to do with it as well. So Char's plan of dropping a fuck huge rock on Earth was tested and true in-universe.

The actual drivers are against them, but the people who own their companies and pay their cheques aren't nearly as against them because it's a huge saving and allows greater efficiency despite the up-front cost. The drivers were largely against monitoring systems for some of the same reasons and a lot of haulage companies and so on use them world wide now because they increased driver safety, efficiency etc. so much and saved money because of it.

Hey I'm not advocating it. But I can't honestly say that I'd lose much sleep if the people advocating the destruction of our planet for personal gain met with an unfortunate end.

>What's that? In about 35 years we're going to run out of effective antibiotics making simple procedures such as c-sections impossible again resulting in going back to childbirth being a potentially fatal undertaking? Sounds bad, but I don't really want to pay more for my Big Macs to be honest so we should let the American livestock industry do as it pleases.
Swell people.
>>
>>15089114
Fuck those kraut pieces of shit they also sabotaged the attempt to save the electronics manufacturing industry in the early 80s.
>>
>>15089122
Except everyone who wasn't already off the planet would be super dead.
>>
>>15089055

It was a lot bigger, but it was also a lot slower. Which is why Char was using engines and onboard nukes to try and increase the size of the impact. Even with those though it'd still only be a fraction of the Chicxulub impactor most likely and while it would no doubt cause several years of nuclear winter and endanger or wipe out a good bit of life, there's no way it'd have the same range of damage. It's simply not travelling at enough speed.
>>
>>15089121
Yes, because look what a barren wasteland Earth is now. It would be much better to let people destroy all unrestorable resources rather than kill some plants.
>>
>>15089131
Less mouths to feed.
>>
>>15089125
It's more like that if the Germans go in asking if they could maybe change energy market regulations then everybody else is going to ask them to actually do something about the Deutsche Bank and maybe finally come to the table and turn the common currency's architecture into something that's not totally insane and dependant on Germany.

Horseshit. Earth is a wasteland in UC and only the poor live there.
>>
>>15089157
I mean, the global political elite live in fucking south america. Shit's dire.
>>
>>15089157
My understanding was that prior to 0079 Earth was pretty top but the constant conflict from the OYW to Unicorn which involved lots of nukes, reactors going critical, high energy probably polluting mobile suits being fucking everywhere, and of course colony/meteor drops very quickly and severely fucked the planet to death.
>>
>>15089055
>Wasn't Axis significantly larger than the Chicxulub impactor?
Are there any scans with data about Axis? Size, weight etc.

On a related note are there any official materials about the population of Earth and the colonies.

>>15089157
They always talk about the "Earth elite" like people who live on Earth are privileged.
>>
>>15089175
>They always talk about
And never show us.
>>
>>15089175
They may be saying that regardless of the actual conditions on earth for ideological/propaganda purposes.
>>
>>15089175
I think the only specifics we're given is that one half of the main body (minus the habitation and gravity blocks) can kill the planet, even without much momentum to speak of.
>>
Because dropping a big asteroid on Earth is faster.
>>
>>15089178
By "they" I mean the characters of the show most of whom would have no reason to spread propaganda in what is mostly personal conversations.
Or do you imply they have no understanding of the political situation and were led to believe so by propaganda?

>>15089177
The show is not centered on civilian life but one of it's basic premises is that most of the capital, resources and military power belong to a small part of the population that lives on Earth.
From what we've seen of the colones and their population they didn't seem very satisfied with their life. As a rule people don't want to fight unless they feel that their immediate survival is at stake.
>>
>>15089157
>Earth is a wasteland in UC

Not true at all. It's something that gets mentioned a lot, but we never actually see it. Think about it: Name one scene in all of UC where these so-called "wastelands" of Earth weren't already known to be desert areas that we know of today or the direct result of some spacenoids starting yet another armed conflict? It's also an established fact that the richest people and high-ranking officials live on Earth.
>>
>>15089203
>The show is not centered on civilian life but one of it's basic premises is that most of the capital, resources and military power belong to a small part of the population that lives on Earth.
And because they never show us anything to back this up, it's a load of shit.
>>
>>15089208
It's one of the main premises, it's often discussed and nothing is shown to contradict it.
The show is not a treatise on politics. It's a story about autistic war orphans with mommy issues that argue about vaguely philosophical things against the backdrop of political intrigue.
>>
>>15089207

It's also true that almost every colony looks rather pleasant, bar a few outliers like Sweetwater and whichever one Judau was from, while the opposite is true of Earth. Almost every place we see is rather shitty looking with a few exceptions.
>>
>>15089220
>nothing is shown to contradict it.
We regularly see extremely poor people on earth and no one is living on the same level in colonies.
>>
>>15089225
For example?
>>
because the earth's banking elites will shut him down, and we will still have CCA-like events occuring
oy vey
>>
>>15089372

>>
Gas the colonies, space war now.
>>
>>15088928
Because poor people are lazy and rely solely on welfare funded by Nazi gold
>>
>>15089388
That didn't work out so good for Cima.
>>
>>15089222
Again, that's because it was a direct result of the conflict that the spacenoids started. It does not prove that Earth was a wasteland beforehand.

Also, you'll notice that the EF doesn't offensively engage in combat inside populated colonies while the zeeks are crazy enough to attack Fed bases on colonies and gas civilians and even so far as dropping colonies on to the Earth because they don't give a fuck. Because of this, most of the fighting happened on Earth, the moon, in deep space, or at actual military space fortresses -- Almost never inside populated colonies.

>>
>>15089539

That's not really true. Hong Kong, California and so on aren't shattered by colony drops or aren't fronts of the war but are still pretty awful looking. So no, it's not proof that everywhere bad is only bad because of the war.

Also, plenty of colonies saw action in the One Week War. They just got destroyed. A problem that isn't so rife on Earth. A colony either is okay or gets completely wiped, there's rarely middle ground.
