Chris pretty soundly beat Kampfer, and ended up beating the Zaku in the end despite piloting something equivalent to controlling an FPS with mouse sensitivity and mouse dpi set to absolute max.

The Gundam is strong, but I would like to stress again that it was a prototype machine. They make sure to explicitly show the viewer that the machine is difficult to handle and incomplete, you can see this in Chris's cockpit shots during the fight. And she ended up winning. Sayla didn't win, she barely made it out alive after having massively fucked up. Let's not forget that Chris also wins against multiple enemy suits earlier on in the OVA. She's far from the worst. Characters like Po, Katz, and Patrick are far more worthy of that title.

The only thing special about the NT1 is that it's tuned for a newtype's faster reaction speed and has been designed with a panoramic monitor and magnetic coating from the start. The Federation has no real newtype tech at this point, all they know is that the magnetic coating was a mandatory upgrade for the RX-78-2 so Amuro would stop wearing out the joints and motors.

People saying the Alex is unusable by normal people are really trying too hard to exaggerate what kind of machine the Alex is. Aside from the 360 degree monitor, it has the same controls as any other Federation MS, but is an outlier because of the sensitivity. Zeta era TMS/TMA are at least equal or better (also panoramic monitor and magnetic coating) and those machines are still operable by oldtypes save for the sensitivity settings. Yazan can bring out the Gaplant's full potential just fine despite not being a newtype, and that's mainly because he has the body endurance and strength to handle the "wild horse" that is the Gaplant. Christina can't bring out the NT1's full potential, so instead of haphazardly trying to fight at full output and potentially making mistakes and crashing, she's just holding back and piloting with more defensive attitude rather than going all out.

Think about it - if the mouse you were holding was fixed to a high sensitivity level, you move more slowly and carefully to counteract the movement. If the plane you were flying in a flight simulator game had really sensitive controls.. you make smaller, slower, and more precise movements to adjust to it

That's why she loses in a simulator battle. It's her first damn time in the machine, she's holding back, she maybe makes a few mistakes, and gets taken down. It is NOT an indicator that she is highly skilled, saying so is silly.
