Do we have any information on how people reacted to old 80s shows as they were airing? Anything like old bulletin board posts, fanzines, or documentaries. I'm curious what otaku in the 80s thought of shows like Zeta Gundam as they were airing.

A while ago, someone here posted a video of a bunch of Japanese kids visiting a toy showroom (ZZ toys were featured) and then going outside to see a live Flashman fight/skit. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and have the link?
Bumping because I've been curious about this topic as well.

I remember this too. Someone post it.
I'd kill to see people react to things like Char betraying Garma and the newtype trip as they aired. Or later stuff like CCA.
Not related to gundam but still pretty /m/, I will show friends evangelion and seeing their reactions to the later episodes and EoE is priceless. Most of them don't watch mecha stuff and have managed to not be spoiled on NGE at all

I only know that Tomino has stated that 0079 wasn't that popular at the time and majority of its viewers were women.

I bet they loved the garmadong

This also is something that I'm interested in, though to be frank I also wouldn't mind hearing and seeing reactions from new-agers to Gundam as it is.

I remember watching 0079 with a friend, and he loved the scene where Garma gets Char'd hard.
He tends to post this gif a lot now.

The scene is even funnier in the movieDUB
Probably not what you're looking for but I found this https://youtu.be/NtVmGRcBOyg
Does anyone else want a retroanime board? I wish I could talk about old anime on 4chan that isnt sci-fi. /a/ is too fast and pleb
>>15087796
that would be the slowest board on 4chan
Is Aoi Honoo an accurate depiction of 80s anime fans?
>>15087796
Nipmoot should make /ar/ for old anime and replace /m/ - Mecha with /m/ - Manga.
>>15085253
Most new-agers wouldn't be able to look past the fact that it's old, badly animated and for children.

Was there even much in the way of an internet anime presence then? I thought message boards and real use of the internet as a communication tool across the world rather than an academic tool didn't take off till the early to mid 90s?

I thought that ever since videogame retro became a board.
Most people sent their impressions to anime magazines and they printed them or didn't, obviously Newtype wouldn't be for scathing Zeta fanmail but there's Out and Fanroad and others that were less high-brow.

Feels like it, though you still meet people like Honoo today who wish to jack off to sakuga but would reply "sorry, I only know Kanada and Araki" if Anno provided them commentary while watching 70s anime (in addition to shitting themselves). It appears to be dissing Bryger ("It's not worth watching! Just catch the OPED!") but I read some showa anime fan commenting how anyone who lived then would recognize it as something so famously wannabe thing to say that it's referenced even in Aoi Honoo.

YAS said this in a interview/article:
>Garma, the narcissist rich boy, got called cute and became far more popular with female fans than we anticipated. Even the freckled weakling Kai had admirers. As for Amuro, many girls said he was the kind of character they couldn’t leave alone, that they wanted to take care of him.

I don't think reaction videos were a thing back then. People talked to each other in person.
You might find something in a fanzine or so but I doubt any are on the internet.

That stop motion is pretty sick
