A glint of mischief? that's a lot of extrapolating, but I guess you have to do it more than the average character in IBO, who are all written pretty thin, because he's even thinner than most in terms of personality. And it's not true, I don't mind more quiet personalities at all, some of my favorite characters have quieter personalities. I just think Yamagi is boring, not bad or shitty. He has potential if maybe he was doing something to showcase more facets of his personality. I like when he talked down to Hush, I liked him randomly being a vegan, there are things I feel he could shine with if they made him interacting with the other characters more. You can still keep his crush in tact with Shino without him only ever interacting with him or giving Nadi mechanical parts. He hasn't even spoken with Echo really on anything but pure technical terms, and I'd really like to imagine them as good friends.

A glint is a glint not a handful, he jabbed at Nadi for having no other places beside Tekkadan, talked down to Shino on several occasions and had that moment with Ride at the table. It just shows he can be mean if he wants to.
Maybe if Kudelia and Atra fucked off there would be more time to expand on Yamagi's relationships and character, Eugene and Shino's too for that matter, alas. I don't know what is going on with the writers dropping the ball so hard on the core Tekkadan cast like Shino, Eugene or Akihiro in this season. Maybe it's the plot overtaking everything, there's no place for the characters to breathe, a lot of the time this season more than the last one feels just like a gunpla commercial.

If Naze is dead due to Tekkadan's fuckery in partnering with McGillis and Gjallarhorn (Aka the feds) behind the mafia's back, it will definitely cause tension. I can't see the turbines not resenting some of tekkadan, or there not being a gang war. IBO isn't very subtle when it tells you a character is about to die. Aston says I WILL DIE FOR YOU TAKAKI. Biscuit says I WANT TO LEAVE BECAUSE I HAVE A FAMILY AND I DON'T WANT TO DIE. Naze says "if anything falls on Tekkadan, I will be the one to pay for it/blame it on me" and warns Orga about going too fast to get to his goal. Naze is about to bite it in the next few episodes.

That's mostly me. I watch the show but I have a lot of issues with it. Sometimes I chime in on legitimate criticism or when I see a good critique of an episode, but mostly I feel like a lot of people here go overboard or are disingenuous. They say things "don't make sense" when there's actually a perfectly rational explanation for something right there, they say something is not shown when it is shown, and they get pissed off at the show for not condemning Tekkadan for some weird reason. I still don't understand that. My issue has nothing to do with Mikazuki being a powerhouse that blows others to shit. My issue is that everything ELSE could be interesting if it tried, but it always fails, even when it had a good thing to start with.

I don't get my hopes up with IBO anymore, but it's weird how consistently something can give me a concept I actually love in theory, and just be absolute shit with it. This is why it's my biggest disappointment in the franchise next to 00, because it actually excited me in what it laid out more than almost any other gundam ever did. Both S1 and S2 start off strong for the first few episodes, then take a nosedive into such a shitty slump. The moment the Takaki and Aston arc happened it felt like Dort all over again.

The problem with IBO's set up and constant failure to deliver and flop of deliveries is that it's laziness. If you can make interesting things happen in isolated contexts in the show, like this show has, or have interesting concepts brought up, you can at least feature them as important plots. Why was the Calamity war not the major plotpoint from the start? Did getting Kudelia to earth really have to take an entire first season? They could have escorted her and returned in S1, dug up the mobile suits and the MA, then left on that cliffhanger. Then S2 could have been dedicated purely to Calamity war and Gjallarhorn background and how Tekkadan's misfortune of falling upon these powerful units ties into it, creating an arms race or a coalition against them to try and stop them from attaining that power. Viola. Then they are real underdogs.

I enjoyed season 1 and am thoroughly enjoying season 2 The only thing I'd actually cry foul on was the fact that Masahiro wasn't mentioned sooner. If they were going to make Akihiro a newtype, then having him suddenly think about his long-forgotten kid brother right before bumping into him would be acceptable, but it looks like this show is newtype-free so Akihiro should have been mentioned sooner.

Everything else, though, has been golden.
