I have no interest in the franchise other than I think Sentai is cooler, Mighty Morphin was cornball fun that aged terribly, I remember lightspeed rescue fondly, and time force was the best. But seeing this movie, even I who has no real attachment to this franchise think it deserves better than this shit heap.

As a film it looks misguided and just a confusing mess that doesn't even know what it is, and as an adaptation it shits on the source material so hard the TMNT movie almost doesn't look bad.

Power Rangers in Space and Lost Galaxy were better than their Sentai counterparts. I think it just depends on the series. I don't like to look down on one more than the other as much because if you love this genre, it's just giving you more content to love.

As for the movie, the complaints are mostly due to comparison to the original MMPR. I think if this movie would've taken a bold decision and called itself Power Rangers: Alien Charge or whatever, it wouldn't be shit-talked this badly. Personally, I love that it is bringing a higher level of emotional drama that I always felt lacked from the TV series while looking visually cool, but not iconic/memorable. It's also coming on a week where the other movies are much more popular in terms of franchise. So I have a feeling it's gonna be a disaster success wise, sadly, because I will probably end up digging it.

Out of the top of my head there's the episode where the thunder megazord was destroyed, the three movies, the modified whale zord in RPM. Power Rangers existing has never bothered me, but I do feel that being tethered to Sentai holds it back in some ways. I do still watch sentai and don't watch PR much anymore, but I hear they've been doing a lot more original footage. At this point, I feel like I'd like it more if they just did they're own suits, story's, etc. Every since Saban got the rights back, it just feels like they're just spreading out watered down sentai seasons over 2 years. Maybe I'm wrong (as I said, haven't seen much aside from a hand full of episodes over the last 6-7 years), but we live in the internet age. Saban's old techniques ala Macron 1 and it's ilk don't make sense when Sentai is a stream or an Amazon click away.

If you actually watched PR you'd know it's not the case really. Bad PR seasons(except Overdrive which has other issues) are bad because they're approached with that mindset.

Firstly, it's Dino Thunder the season that people claim to have been fucked up, not MMPR(MMPR had the whole Aisha-Tanya thing which is what I was talking about), because its premise is based on the dinosaurs being extinct. The others are assumed ot have been adjusted to a world with dinosaurs......which means DT can also happens anyways, albeit with more changes that the rest but still. Regardless of all of this, anyone who likes DT can watch DT, it's still available on different formats and that's what really matters, not what DC did. Forget muh continuity; more like M-MUH REALITY!!! There is no fucking way humanity as they know it should exist, let alone any of the Rangers. At the very least, Heckyl should either have never met the Rangers or cease to exist all together, depending on whether Heckyl was actually aboard Sledge's ship when it became deep-fried in the Sun. This isn't the sort of thing where the logic of their actions starts to unravel the more you think about it. This is the kind of thing that just straight-up makes no sense in the slightest. Going back in time and accidentally saving the dinosaurs from extinction is the premise you'd find in a time-traveling comedy where the main characters completely and royally fucked up. The fact that people working on Dino Charge thought this actually made sense as a conclusion to the series is just hilarious.

The fact that Keeper was aware that the Dark Energem locked away the Energems' true power of time travel but didn't know that the Dark Energem had a FUCKING BLACK HOLE IN IT is just way too convenient and seems like shitty writing to me. But even ignoring that and accepting the fact that they aren't aware of this, with the amount of Megazords at their disposal, they could have just blasted Sledge right out of the sky rather than go through the trouble of using the Dark Energem. It's not like Sledge could have done much to stop them because he was busy towing the Earth. Hell, what was stopping them from just destroying the eggs and unshackling the Earth from Sledge's ship? There's massive green cables that they can just individually follow to just free the Earth. To me, it seems like they pulled a "Dawn of Justice", where the writers had the characters ignore the obvious and easy courses of action so they could blunder their way into tragedy. Like, I genuinely like this team of Rangers, but I'm struggling to think of a larger example of incompetence from any other Ranger team.

I got this from MovieBob but he made a good point.

This movie comes out in two months. Two fucking months and there's only been one trailer. And in that time, we've never seen the suits in action as well as barely seen the Zords at all outside of toy listings (that poster of them you can barely see them at all). Which means two things

1. Given prior experience, this means that even now coming on the time the movie will be coming out, they don't feel like it's good enough to be shown to the public

2. Again, given prior experience, whenever there's a nostalgic reboot of one of these franchises and the first trailer does that thing where they show a bunch of human drama and the actual thing the franchise is famous for is just a quick tease at the end, this is generally a bad sign for how the movie wants to present itself

Me, I read DC and Marvel comics on a weekly basis but my favorite franchise has always been Power Rangers. To see the Power Rangers crossing over with the best comic publisher (my personal opinion) is a dream come true. It's on par with the time Ninja Turtles showed up in Power Rangers in Space.

It really doesn't matter to me. I was 16 when the show came out so I was past that impressionable age when anything Star Wars was crack to me. This goes back to my point about Power Rangers, where I stopped watching after Time Force because I had reached the age (it was 9, which even now sounds too young to suddenly lose interest in it) where I had grown out of it so while I can go back to the ones I watched as a kid and have some fun enjoying the nostalgia (and realizing how hot some of those women were), everything past 2001 means nothing to me.

I guess I misspoke on that point. It's not that they're mismarketing it, it's that they're being so vague.

Like the other anon said, they're treating it like a winter release even though we're getting it early spring. We know what everything looks like so far, but outside of the suits and Rita we haven't seen any finished shots from the film. It's certainly different for a modern action film, but it comes off as more worrying than refreshing. Like they're rushing post-production and throwing out promos and posters as they're finished.
