That's not really the same in fairness. Like, you can get prostitution out of that, but it's not the only thing you can conclude from it. If her being a prostitute isn't in the original anime or even the novelisation then I wouldn't feel Origin is retconning it personally, even if you take the Origin animations as the new canon, since Tomino didn't really make the prostitute thing his own preferred take on it for a few years, and having it there doesn't really add anything regardless.

Char is one of the least mature people in the franchise. Especially emotionally. He's quite literally unable to get over death, like Batman and grieves like it's a raw wound for years. It's romantic, but not particularly mature. He's emotionally immature enough that there's that scene between him and Nanai in CCA where she holds him almost like he's a child, telling him it's okay and being him is hard for instance. It comes off as a maternal moment, and frankly quite creepy considering they're presumably sleeping together. Lalah could have been a mother to him, but I think Nanai actually was one in some ways.

The Federation has a Newtype research institute, just like Zeon's Flanagan Institute: The EXAM Institute, which later becomes the Augusta Newtype Lab.

So it's not only Amuro being the prodigal hero: they get a little blonde loli Newtype to pilot the Pale Rider, which is even better than the Alex not even before the OYW moves back completely into space. It also jobs at A Baoa Qu to a bunch of whatever grunt Zeon MS that are the opposing Zeon named character team for that mission despite being quite possibly the most powerful MS the Federation has at that point and time IF it is canon.

It's a bunch of crazy shit but the Pale Rider kit is super sexy, so I can't complain too much.

Char on the other hand doesn't seem like he ever made an honest effort to get over her, and just superficially used women without ever really trying to connect with them because they weren't Lalah or something. I think maybe Lalah meant more to him than he thought she did, and he tried to act like she was just another subordinate but because he couldn't acknowledge his feelings for her, he couldn't process his grief and just got stuck on her for a decade.
