It's the main point of UC Gundam. So you're gonna have to deal with it or watch something else. Plus some of the benefits of having a character that isn't professional include; they're more relatable to the viewer, they can have shit explained to them (and thus the viewer), they set the stage up for a simple character arc, they allow for a raising skill level, and they allow for younger characters to appeal to a younger audience. Amuro had no problem shooting down grunts, or killing them. By CCA, Amuro was living the life of a military soldier. He only was annoyed at Char because he thought they finally became allies back in Zeta.

Banana was some sort of attempt at making a hodgepodge Gundam Protagonist that makes sure that the viewer knows that War is Bad. So instead of a character, we got this stale bread that moves around the plot for us, and reacts to everything in exactly the same way. Like so many before him, Captain Zimmerman had to learn the hard way not to piss off Banagher.

But regarding his pacifism during Mobile Suit combat, eh, I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I dislike the fact that war desensitizes people to violence and tragedy, on the other hand by refusing to kill outright, it shows the enemy a perceived weakness that they can exploit. So I'll just say that everyone has their own flaws, and one of Banagher's the fact that he doesn't want to kill an enemy that doesn't have any moral inhibitions about killing his.

I dunno. For an 'ass-kicking' Zinnerman seems pretty unphased. He basically gets knocked down, but then here's Banagher socking him in the face and stomping on him and he's just kind of flustered at the imposition. He's not knocked silly, he's not screaming in pain, or getting the wind knocked out of him until that final kick upside the nose. And literally a minute after this he sits right up again while Banagher is sermonizing, and glowers at him with his swole face.
