Like a mythical phoenix, the SRW GC translation thread rises from the ashes.
Last time on SRW GC Translation Thread: >>14953391
- Black had to make a thread because thread 28 died an inglorious death.
- Dash's progress is slowed by a GF addicted to playing FFX on his laptop.
- AP continues to go well.
- Overworld continues to go well.
- Oppai got Pokemon Fever.
- Bring is 10 pages away from submitting a paper and being done with Comprehensive Exams (which should have been done in March of last year).
- Bring has already had 5 days of snow this season in a climate that has about two snow events a year.
- Bring made a joke about the Tallgeese (basic) that was so bad that the thread died for over half a month.
We back now bitches. But who knows if we actually have more time to work on this stuff.
The old texture replacement method is still usable, up to stage 20, essentially act 1. (can be used along with the new one, just don't get the stages or battle lines)
http://pastebin.com/CYDquvFD
The new method. We have VWF, so it looks better! Except for the character naming screen. That's not right. Not sure if this needs to be updated now.

Hey! It's good to see this thread back. Happy new phoenix year, GC!
I just wanted to add that Greenrose was kind enough to explain the Talgeese joke to me.
Also, in reference to the opening statement, can we in all fairness say the new method has the same contents as the old method? (If yes then we should definitely point people first to the new method, and second to the old one... right?)
PS: also, it's so good not to have only srwg to read here... THANKS!
>>15078331
The big reason that I still have the old method listed is that it's much easier to do than the new method. The new method essentially requires you to rebuild the GC ISO. This method is drag and drop.
Bump from page 8
>>15078688
Hmm... I thought someone on RHDN proposed a command-line tool to do it more easily (well, after you guys have created a bat / sh, that is). I need to dig back a bit...
What are the typical GC iso building tools?
I was looking through some of my old stuff the other day, and couldn't remember if I posted these screens, or not.

I really wish I could find the rest of my old Neo screenshots.

I don't remember them. Thanks for sharing!

Sort of.
Steve was originally "soft-subbing" the menus for GC, and he also did some of that for Neo.

Does anyone have vids of the xo exclusive units?

What would be the equivalent of the "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" game in an SRW world?
>>15105628
"Whose Turn Is It Anyway?"
The show where stats are made up and the skill points don't matter.
Something I've been thinking about. It's fairly easy to play G-Gen games as multiplayer co-op. One person controls warship 1 and the MS inside. The other person controls warship 2 and all the MS inside. Then they pass off controls, sort of like in Advance Wars multiplayer.
However, has anyone thought of doing something like that for SRW? Obviously any stage with two warships will let you do something similar (although you'll have to figure out some other way of dividing the units).
>>15106292
I've been dreaming of an SRW where the insides of the battleship would be visible, docking units would actually have to travel, then be maintained, and characters who haven't been deployed would help at all ship tasks.
Also, outside of the ship, there'd be the option for pilots to eject to effectively get into buildings etc. When they eject, then map grid would zoom in, letting people on foot travel (slower), use simple cars, etc.
>>15106292
I played through 2 SRW games with a friend, there's not really a need for 2 warships. You just take turn choosing who you wanna control and then you simply have to remember them.

Protagonist Introduction
Akimi Akatsuki
Male Protagonist
The only son of Mogami Heavy Industry's president, Zuiun Akatsuki. 15 years old.
A cheerful high school student that enjoys sports, he holds a grudge against his overbearing father for forcing him to become a robot pilot.
Very sociable, he is an agreeable young man that can get along with anybody.
His dream for the future is to fly around space in a space plane.
Female Protagonist
The only daughter of Mogami Heavy Industry's president, Zuiun Akatsuki. 15 years old.
Usually an unreserved person that does things her own way, she is however unable to be so open in front of her father.
Nevertheless, she admires her father's honest, and despite having complaints, she still does her best as a robot pilot.
Fairey Firefly
Secretary to Mogami Heavy Industry's president. 25 years old.
A calm and serious woman, she acts as the sub-pilot for the protagonist's machine. Usually lives with the Akatsuki family, she also is very attached to Akimi as an older sister figure.
Robot Introduction
Soul Sabre
A humanoid weapon developed by Mogami Heavy Industries. Soul Sabre's head component can also act independently as a small fighter known as the Head Sabre. Because of this Block component concept, this machine has the ability to participate in both close quarter and ranged combat.
Soul Gunner
A humanoid weapon developed by Mogami Heavy Industries. Possessing a pair of wings, Soul Gunner specialises at ranged combat while flying at high speeds. An all-purpose machine, it can also capitalise on its mobility to engage in close range combat.

Speaking of which, we know SRW-involved series with groups of main protagonists of 1, 2, 3, 5 people, but do we have a team of 9?
>>15113902
>5 people,
When was there a 5 man group? W?
We did recently get a 4 person group with BX though (Glitter Falsaber is even described as the YONMI ITTAI), so that was a thing.
9... uh, if you count all the Alpha OGs that aren't Viletta I guess. Kusuha, Bullet, Sanger, Ratsel, Arado, Seolla, Ibis, Tsugumi, Sleigh.
>>15106881
You'd need a big ship to fit stuff like Daitarn or Giganscudo in there.
>>15110701
Soul Gunner in OG when?
>>15114030
Never. It's based on a reused Sunrise Eiyuuten design (specifically the Soul Lancer, which is its upgrade) so it will never get in OG ever.
>>15113931
>When was there a 5 man group? W?
The Combattler V and the Voltes V teams are 5 pilots each.
>>15114860
Oh. For some reason I thought you were referring to OG groups.
Well, we actually have had 4 and 6 man groups (Mechander MAX and Acrobunch had those), but 9? I can think of two.
>Fafner in the Azure: Kazuki, Maya, Kouyou, Sakura, Kenji, Mamoru, Shoukou, Canon, Michio
>The Machina in Linebarrels of Iron pre-timeskip: Linebarrel, Vardant, Hind Kind, Decieve, Talisman, Painkiller, Pretender, Apparition, Juda

>Acrobunch
>Fafner in the Azure
>Linebarrels of Iron
Nice!!
Are these 4 series any good to watch?
>>15115261
>Mechander MAX
>Acrobunch
Mate how the hell am I supposed to know what two unsubbed series are like.
What little I've seen of Mechander wasn't very good, but apparently it's at least not the worst the 70s has to offer. Meanwhile common opinion on Acrobunch seems to be a fairly resounding "meh, could be better" (and the ending is fucking dumb).
>Linebarrels of Iron
The anime was shit, not the absolute worst thing in the world but pretty bad and a fucking horrid adaptation - think Demonbane Anime tier. The manga was good, nothing amazing but it was good and worth a read.
>Fafner
Pretty good, but any time anyone says that on /m/ nowadays they get flooded by the same dumb false flagging idiots who infested Gun X Sword like two years ago, Getter Robo about one year ago, Kuromukuro threads while it was airing, Gundam threads... all the time really, and multiple other shows as general things. It does tend to get better as the franchise continues along.
Oh, I was going to bring up Gravion as a 6, but counting Sandman and the Gran Troopers it's a bit more than that.
>>15115346
>What little I've seen of Mechander wasn't very good, but apparently it's at least not the worst the 70s has to offer
I don't know, I'd say that Mechander is near the bottom of the 70s Supers. I really dislike Godam too though.
>>15115346

>modern SRW with spammable 4k+ base damage attacks
>fucking vulcans and beam guns with 1800-2000 base damage
Why are they even doing this.
>>15119904
To be fair, the final boss in MD gets some pretty bullshit powers. Even the Zui Gaden can be pretty tough if you're not prepared.
>>15119938
I'm not complaining about the 4k attacks, that's just number inflation but I'm fine with it. I'm complaining why even bother putting weak as shit attacks into the game if no one's going to use them, and even if you do they'll never hit 4 digit damage.
>>15119955
They're mainly for stuff like Shoot Down, or for finishing grunts at low health. Saves the energy and ammo of the big guns.
>>15119955
Well, there are actually a few missions in OGMD where you get a game over if you shoot down an enemy. You have to lower them below a certain HP threshold, and they retreat. Weaker weapons are good for those.
>>15119980
I'd add that, if they are part of the lore / known attributes of a robot, they just have to be there.
It would be great to be given options to hide stuff you decide you won't use - whether attacks, units or pilots.

up
>>15128710
We almost never get the Gundam, and it's almost always phased out after a few stages. It be nice if, for once, Amuro get's an upgraded one that's on par with everything, just say it's all modern under the hood or something and make it a secret.
>>15130116
I'd find it nice if an original story had the Gundam officially morph into something else, like the Z or something, while its pilot either dies (plot twists!) or becomes the "original" replacementfor Kamille...
>>15130116
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8RH1HlXKOg
One of the best Gundams in the game even. GC also has the Gundam as an endgame-usable unit (if not the absolute best choice) and it's only really replaced by the G3, which is alright and also a bit of a sidegrade.
>>15131248
Nice video!
I'vealways thought one of the gundam's advantages to be the ability to change equipments. I hate it when you're stuck with nothing but range 4 weapons. But this "all out attack" is a nice addition!
>>15133337
>this "all out attack"
It's the last battle of the show. Gundam starts with two Bazookas, goes into melee, then Last Shooting.
>>15127805
There's one that randomizes the exits, so you step out a door, and suddenly you're in another part of the world, but I was playing the one that just randomizes items. I soft locked the game a bunch of times. The first item I got was screw attack, whenever I landed after making an opening that was two cells high, I got stuck. No morph ball, so I can get smaller, and I couldn't stand up since Samus is three blocks tall, and she can't move while crouching.
Or falling down to fight the bomb torizo after getting morph ball, not getting bombs from him, and not being skilled enough to leave that pit the wrong way.
A little bump before heading off to bed. I'm bummed how much this project has slowed down.
>>15137481
Well it's only a matter of (your) time(s) to make it move forward.
What's left to do?
- Translating missions 21+
- VWF (if possible)
- anything else?
>>15138477
VWF Is mostly done. I just need to figure out the compression to replace the existing fonts with the ones that Dash made. We can use the ghetto insertion method we're currently using, but we could run out of space for text if we do it this way.
>>15138881
Okay. It's mostly about the story translation, then?

What do you mean "typing"? I guess you can type Japanese from a let's play video - unless I miss what you mean here?
>>15148345
I meant editing the game text with the translated walkthrough text. Or is that not what the SA Let's Play did?
>>15148356
No. The SA LP relied primarily on the MNeidenshamalamadingdong summary, with a few tasteful edits (and also skipping a few paragraphs here and there).
However, they did go out of the way to make several line by line translations throughout the LP like this one:
ctrf + f "speaking" to get to the right spot. No quotes of course.

A little pre-quantum computing bump.
>>15150745
Does a quantum computer teleport bits in memory (using the fact that we don't know if they are ones or zeros until we read them)?
>>15152552
No. But the thing about quantum bits isn't that we don't know if they're 1 or 0, but rather that they are both 1 and 0 until measured. The way a quantum computer speeds up performance is by being able to check all possibilities at the same time (please note, that's a gross oversimplification of how a quantum computer works).
You can play with IBM's cloud quantum computer. http://www.research.ibm.com/quantum/
>>15153308
Speaking of IBM's quantum computer, it tells you what the state of the quantum computing is when they're showing off a 5-bit computer.

@g Is certainly a good time so far now that I've switched entirely to save states instead of using the ridiculously long loading times on regular saves. The more expensive weapons upgrades in exchange for upgrading ALL the weapons is an interesting touch and a huge relief after seeing Raideen's absolutely ridiculous 3 pages of goddamn weaponry. I've been peppering upgrades around lightly instead of focusing on any single robot so far. Do you ever get a flight module in this? I'd really like to pour some money into Boss Brobot but he needs one badly.
