Is Getter Robo worth reading past the original manga?

Absolutely. Go and Shin in particular are excellent.

Do any of them continue the continuity from the original manga or are they standalone adaptions?
>>
>>15072862
Continue
>>
It's the later entries in the series for which one reads the first one.
>>
>>15072801
It's only worth reading past the original. But Shin and Arc are crap as well.
>>
>>15073571
Only because there's no ending. In and of themselves, what's present is great. Still, it's definitely not as good as Go.
>>
I really like Getter Robo and Getter Robo G. After that, the series became a lot about power creep, and the pilots seemed less significant. If you're a GETTER PERSON tho, I'd say read all of it.
>>
>>15073908
>the series became a lot about power creep
I don't think you know what power creep means
>>
The original Getter Robo is excellent but so are the later series. It's worth reading all of the mainline manga series and they're probably some of the best examples of mecha manga.
>>
Yes and read it in production order.
>>
>>15072801
I think so, but the later entries are basically the same as the earlier entries. The only difference is the scale and complexity of the events within the conflict

The exception to this is Shin, which lacks an overarching conflict and is a bit more of an anthology of events that show how Ryouma and Hayato become aware of the sinister nature of Getter Rays and is in my opinion the strongest part of the manga.
>>
>>15072865
Yes, can't you read? Can anyone answer my original question? Do any of them continue the continuity from the original manga or are they standalone adaptions?

>>15076286
That's what I was going to do, but I just wanted to ask some questions first.
>>
>>15077758
Can't you read? I said continue. The sequels by Ken Ishikawa are in the same continuity, except for that spinoff story that takes after the 1998 ova.

Maybe if you didn't just say continue on it's own like you can't even speak English properly. You really just should have said, "yeah, they continue the continuity". Sheesh.
>>
>>15077770
if it was the other, I would have said standalone. I replied to this question not to your original question. Either way, this information is available on the Getter Wikipedia page, you could have just googled it.

Also, Getter Robo Devolution alludes to several parallel Getter universes, meaning the ovas and spinoff mangas are probably among these parallel universes.

Armageddon also said there are multiple parallel dimensions where the Getter team is a constant.

Why the fuck are you getting mad at us when you could've fucking googled it?

Calm down, dude. I wasn't mad. I was just saying. Sheesh.

Because I just wanted to ask beforehand. Is that really a problem? You people really don't need to get so ticked off.

No, Go is nothing special and introduces some of the worst super robot concepts (everything has to outpowerlevel everything else now, all because of Shin Getter's appearence in Go) and the 90's stuff is awful.

Post 70's (printed) Getter ruined super robots, and is of low quality itself, it deserves double scorn.

I've read the original, but had a look at the one's past that and they look kinda off to the original's style.

Like where Getter swings a giant scythe throw space cutting planets and spaceships in half, and a planet size Getter or whatever's going on.

That's Ishikawa's natural style. The first 2 series he was still finding himself and mainly was still very much influenced by Go Nagai, though with his own flair. The end of G and Go as a whole is when he departs from the Nagai-esque style and really crafted his own which is a lot more detailed and has a somewhat sketchy quality to it. I personally greatly prefer his art after the style shift, something about the way Ishikawa did his shading really pleases me.

You also probably shouldn't be looking at later chapters since you will very blatantly spoil yourself but that's your decision.

Posts like these is why no one takes Pedro seriously.

What the fuck does that even mean? Elaborate you palaeolithic scum.

Any one reading Getter Devolution? Is it any good?
>>
>>15080699
It's ok.

Still need to wait and see where the story goes.
>>
>>15080699
It started a little choppy in that established characterizations, namely Ryoma, felt off from the established ones and the were some doubts. But with the plot kicking in and the Getter team starting to cooperate it's getting very interesting, especially the latest chapter which really gives us a taste of what direction this is going. Give it a read if you like Getter and want a good read with pretty good art, but I recommend it only to people who are well acquainted with Getter because there's A LOT of throwbacks. I know Getter always includes a fair bit of nods/retreads of prior entries but it's a big deal here since the plot is revolving around a multiverse theory and looks like it might want to piece the OVAs and manga all into one multiverse.

Don't be like that guy who apparently started with Devolution, that is just dumb.

The original is fantastic if you're not a 'muh depth' fag

oh and since I didn't answer, yes read them
