Personally, no. It wasn't really well-received when it aired in Japan, too. It paved the way for the best, though. As far as full TV series go, I'm going with Zeta. ZZ was pretty good, but as everyone says the first 20 episodes are hard to get through. The payoff is worth it though.

I don't really care for 0079 . I like the side stories around it. Those people who say it is the best are probably nostalgia biased. I don't really like 00 or Turn A either ,much dislike especially on 00.
If you ask me my top 5 are Char's Counterattack, Victory, Unicorn, F91 and MS IGLOO.

Many people also say that Generation 1 of the Pokemon games are the best games in the series. That does not mean it is a majority. Just a vocal group of people. To be fair, I think the difference in rank between Char and Amuro stems from them having different goals, from the beginning, Char has been someone with a clear motive, which has been the driving force behind most of his actions, while Amuro started off as an ordinary teenager who just so happened to come across the Gundam, the only way for Char to achieve his goals was to climb the military ranks, while Amuro never really had that incentive, sure, by the time of CCA Amuro had ideals which were arguably just as strong as Char's, but his ideals never required him to be in a commanding position, Char needed to gain a strong influence over people for power to act out his ideals. Also, the Federation government saw Newtypes as a threat to them after the OYW, and didn't really trust them, I think that would've restricted Amuro in terms the possibility of him serving as a commanding officer for the Earth Federation, the government knows how much of a threat a Newtype can be when they're piloting just a single mobile suit. Think of all the damage they could do if they betray the Federation when in command of an entire force.

It seems like everyone is suggesting the movies but I would suggest the actual series. The way I see it is if you watch the movies it's just a way for you to see what you need to so you can get to something better. However, if you don't like 0079 you probably won't like Zeta, ZZ, or even Char's Counterattack and that makes up a majority of what UC has to offer. And if animation is your main concern you might as well quit UC now. While the movies are a great summary, it doesn't offer the depth that the series has. The characters and setting that the series builds is far greater than the movies. If you really want to have the full UC experience, understanding everything to the fullest is extremely rewarding.

Have been trying to get into MSG 0079 but having a difficult time after watching the first 23 episodes. I have tried and mostly succeeded to overlook the animation quality and music. But I can't get over the 'monster of the week' formula this show is running on. Every few eps there seems to be a slightly upgraded version of the enemy mobile suit that Amuro destroys and then repeat. This gets boring pretty fast. Doesn't help that I can't stand Amuro and his bratty attitude. Only character who was somewhat complex and entertaining is Char and he hasn't gotten much screen time in the last few eps. Just wondering if the show gets any better? When does the real plot start? Also how does MSG Zeta and ZZ compare to 0079? In terms of actual events you didn't miss out much and because the trilogy is considered more canon then some of the ideas in the TV version were retconned. However the movie suffered from poor pacing, especially with the second summary and as a whole, you really miss out on getting to know the characters, becoming attached to them and seeing how they grow over time. I would definitely give the original TV series a shot again if you are willing to do so, though since you just finished the movie summaries it might be annoying to have to watch sort of the same content again. But sometime down the line in the future, go back and give 0079 a shot as it is definitely worth it.

Realistically, it has to do with a variety of factors- Them getting better animators, along with many of the pre-existing ones getting better at drawing blocky objects. Those contribute to better animation.

Sayla doesn't do anything else Char-related in the show and just seems to want to have a private life and stay out of the conflicts of the era. In my opinion, the anime was rushed and key plot points, Newtypes were not introduced until far too late into the series, the first time we heard about Newtypes was in space after 30 episodes and they apparently had so much to do with the start of the war in the first place?, which is why I would recommend the compilation movies more. But, if you have the time, why not watch both? Anime first to see the expedition in search of salt! Very important filler episode, not really.
