*** THERE IS NO "GUNPLA/PLAMO GENERAL" DISCORD SERVER, THERE IS ONLY A TEXT CHANNEL ON THE /m/ DISCORD: https://discord.gg/TGjVRAG ***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 2/1/17
Submissions go to

Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

Isn't the Bandai version a figure?
>>
>>15072703
the Bandai version is pre-built with LEDs and all that useless shit. The Hasegawa is fine if you're a modeler. Their castings aren't as good as Bandai's typically, so expect to put in some work to smooth out the surfaces.
>>
>>15072714
I was looking for a plamo of a Matsumuto ship, the figures are usually too expensive for my pockets.

>Their castings aren't as good as Bandai's typically, so expect to put in some work to smooth out the surfaces.
Yeah, I was expecting that, but does it have problems when it comes to parts fitting or stuff like that? I'm ready to sand, paint and whatever, but I don't know if I can can handle heavy modifications just to make the parts fit.
>>
>>15072720
They're as good as any other non-bandai. I was talking more about using a putty/acetone mix to smooth out the surfaces that get caved in. Depends on how autistic you get with models.

Do you ever go to your bed after working on a kit and find a ton of nubs in your bed?
>>
>>15072760
No, because I work on a table.
>>
>>15072760
>Have one bedroom where I work on Gunpla and nap during the day

Not the best setup but certainly not the worst. Either cover your bed with another sheet or take of all the blankets, while working on gunpla, so you are only left with your fitted sheet and can remove nubs easily

Thanks for the suggestion
The last kit I finished was the Ryusei-Go there in the middle, and for that I did actually paint the top of the horn white because fuck stickers, but that's as far as my painting experience goes. I might paint my GM Striker when I build it because it's really lacking in color separation, and the red part of Carta's Graze when I build it. This barely counts as a """mod""" but I do split all the frontskirts when possible and trim safety nubs, but I'll look into what else I can do on any future kits.

But for now, the first thing I'm doing this year is moving on to my 1/100 kits, just starting with the Barbatos Lupus to get into the higher scale groove, and then move on to the MG F91 and then Zeta V2
>>
>>15073279
Do you find the v2 beam parts to be very loose, I just built it and the shield and sabre are wobbly as fuck
>>
>>15073479
That's the Assault Buster, but I prefer the regular look. The beam parts aren't that loose for me, no, but the assault/buster parts are fickle as a feather and just fall off

They're focusing more on different grades and experimenting with stuff nowadays.
We have the High-Resolution grade, "Full Mechanics", RE1/100 etc. for 1/100 scale and for 1/144 we have RG (not really "new") and the Accelerate Evolution thing they announced last month or so

Shitty quality aside you cant deny how good the Gundam looks in something other than clown/parade colors.

This is the RX-78 that came with the Gundam marker but the thing is hot trash. The tip of the marker constantly runs dry and the ink's quality leaves a lot to be desired. Is there some sort of secret trick I don't get? All the instructions are in Japanese.

Ditch the white spikes, make them the same purple as the shoulder or possibly the same blue as that arm. Also, instead of picking a 3rd shade of blue, try the same dark blue as the torso.
>>

>Ditch the white spikes, make them the same purple as the shoulder or possibly the same blue as that arm
Or black, that works too. Point is, it should be a color that already exists on the suit. You get too many different colors at once and it's really easy to come off looking messy and distracting.

I fucking love RGs.
My aim this year is to complete a collection of every normal release RG.
I still need to get Char's Zaku, MkII AEUG, Zeta, both GP01, Strike Freedom, Wing EW, the newly released Build Strike, and the upcoming Gold Frame Amatsu Mina custom.

Thing is, the Origin Char's Zaku seems to have a better loadout than the RG.
I can deal with everything else but I really need that rifle it comes with.
Does this comes separately in any system weapon or do I have to get the whole kit just for the rifle?

Old sci-fi monster movies. Typically Godzilla movies I've seen a hundred times so I've got some background noise but I don't need to pay any real attention to it. Sometimes I'll even put on commentary
>>

To what extent do you use lighter fluid to? just cleaning enamel and thinning it for hand painting? the OP says it cant be used for spraying.
>>
>>15077921
I know people use it to mix panel line washes, but you can just buy Tamiya's accent line or Pour Type Gundam markers and not have to fuck around with any of that.
>>
Can you airbrush Humbrol Enamels? I've heard you can but I wanted a second opinion. I've got some of their Chrome Silver, which I really like (it's got a wonderful shine to it) but I heard somewhere that enamels don't cooperate very well with airbrushes.

Also, for doing a purple coat over the top of said silver, what would you recommend- Badger Ghost Tint Purple or Forge World Eidolon Purple?
>>
>>15077940
Coat as in shading or coat as in literally another color? Because if the latter then use Forge, if the former then Tint.
>>
>>15077947
I was aiming for a candy/metallic purple finish, so a clear coat of purple over the top of silver. It's for an old LMHG Eva-01 kit- I was aiming for a finish a bit like the old Soul of Chogokin figure.
>>
>>15077966
In that case, use the tint.

Technically yes, but wouldn't it be a lot easier just to paint directly onto the part?
>>
>>15078819
I use spraycans and don't have masking tape so it would be easier for me to paint the sticker.
>>
>>15077860
Then where is my MG G-Self?
>>
>>15078853
Get masking tape then? Why skirt around an important function of building just to get worse results? It's like $5.
>>
>>15078853
Why not use the stickers in place of masking tape? Spray the color you want the sticker to be, then topcoat it and put the sticker on over that, then spray your second color
>>
>>15078862
Yeah but g reco sold like ass, likely due to the hg range being god awful, so an mg would be unlikely at this point unless the recap movie causes a resurgence in sales.

i ordered a jinrai from japan select on amazon and instead i got a totoro plush at my house. no return address. anyone else experienced this?
>>

Contact amazon and if that doesn't work, contact the seller. If all else fails (30 days with no reply) tell your bank you want a chargeback.

Is there anything special about hobby spray cans? Is it safe to use non-modelling-specific cans from arts supply stores?

The paint on non-modeling cans is much thicker and not as high quality. There's a reason modelers buy real modeling supplies often, the quality matters. A modeling knife works better than a kitchen knife, doesn't it? And an airbrush setup with modeling paints will work easily with little setup, with generic art paints it can screw up the airbrush. Don't skimp out.
>>
>>15079226
FA-78 (original or thunderbolt), Ball, Acguy or a Zaku 2.0.

Hobby knifes are for candy asses. Real men use utility knives.

Paint quality does matter, tho.

I'm going to go all out in customization so starting this new year with a bang.

What custom paint scheme do I go with?
What other features should I buy?

change the red to purple
and change the black to stronger shade of it then give some wear and tear damage marks
also give it strike freedoms wings

First mock up of soviet guntank. I like the dark green mixed with the plain grey. Grey wheels and black treads. Idk what to do with the red though. The light green works but i dont think I like it that much. rough decal placement seems about right. Want to keep it simple because communism. I would be working on the nazi zulu but the fucking kit hasn't gotten here yet.
