The weirdest thing about the show is how Teppei was a space vampire who presumably destroyed many entire planets killing who knows how many countless people, but the show and character don't really acknowledge it. He (and the villains) doesn't even really have a redemption arc. It's like nobody cares. I don't understand why the writers didn't just change his backstory to somehow absolve him of responsibility for the atrocities he must have helped commit over his immortal life.

The actual mass-murdering alien vampires were effectively dead before the series even started; the characters who got off easy were separate entities who were at least reasonably divorced from those actions.

I still don't understand why they keep all the interesting story in the magazine manga. Like, do they think they didn't have enough time in a 2 cour show?

Granted, if they did what I suggested then the entire TV series would end up be about the antagonists. But that must have been a better idea than to follow the protagonist pilots who are basically boring children who don't do anything.

The redemption arc is the show itself. We assume previously that they fly in, suck out everyone's libido, and move on. But here on Earth, they're forced to actually live as and with their would-be victims. And through the course of the show, they all begin to see the value in the temporary lives they previously scored and looked to harvest.

Captain Earth has the same problem as most Bones shows. It has a cool concept and a really interesting beginning, but it turns into a meandering slog for 3/4 of the show until it feels like the writers suddenly remember "oh shit right, there's a plot" and rush it all in the home stretch to an unsatisfying conclusion.

Captain Earth is especially bad about it because it throws a bunch of shit at you in a relatively short time and expects you to know what they're talking about. I swear there's so much terminology in the first few episodes that you just kind of have to figure out for yourself as you go because they never actually explain it.
