As we are obviously all in touch with our inner child. The child that loves giant robots. We all wanted a figure. Well which one did you get first?! Mine was the Revoltech Gurren Lagann figure.
>>
It was a bootleg VF-1 many years ago.
I learned what it was long after it was lost.
It had an impressive transformation with all 3 modes available.
It was a pretty good toy when I look back at it now.
>>
SRC Gurren Lagann, with the Giga Drill accessory pack. Since then I've bought 15 other SRCs.
>>
MSIA Shining Gundam. Came with all sorts of accessories and even a base with one of the Devil Gundam's snake heads on it.

First model kit was the HGUC Unicorn and oh boy I gotta touch that up.

MSIA Wing Zero Tv. Even today it's one of my favorite robot. I'm waiting for a Metal build.

Shinken-Oh from Shinkenger. It's one of my prized possessions.
>>
>>15070673
Do Transformers count? If so then that's mine.
>>
I remember having a Wing Zero figure when I was younger, but I have no idea which one. I think I also had a gundam battleship. I think it was either the White Base or the Albion.

You should buy the new Robot Damashii Ingram, it's great.
>>
>>15070673
Toynami's 1/100 Valkyrie. It made me realize the superiority of japanese tpys.
>>
I bought a Bilbine figure, the Robot Damashii version. Got it during that figure purge on Amazon. What a wild 30 minutes. I think it's a great figure.

>>15070970
I have one of those - the revolver cannon that came with mine doesn't fit the hand or the leg quite right.
>>
I'm actually going to get my first model in January, I ordered a Jegan on amazon

Oldfag here, my first was the deluxe Zeta Gundam toy. I didn't know what Zeta Gundam was, I bought this pre-internet, all I really knew was Gundam was an anime in japan. I didn't know anything about the story for Zeta, but I loved the Zeta design when I first saw it.

It's not a great looking Zeta toy by today's standards because the transformation feature made the mobile suit mode look different from the lineart. This was back in those years when that happened a lot to Bandai's toys and models. I still loved this toy, it seemed exotic because there was no info on Gundam stuff where I was (Wisconsin)

Hard to say, but probably G1 Optimus Prime.

I had probably 4 or 5 of him over my childhood through varying re-releases etc... But I remember very early playing with him. ( but I am and oldfag)
>>
I had the gp01 from stardust memory but im not sure if it was msia or not as i was real young when i got it
>>
My first was Transformers RiD 2001 Grimlock - I've pretty much never not been into giant robots.
>>
>>15070717
Couldn't be that bad of a bootleg then!
>>
The GP01fb MSIA toy. They didn't call them MSIA's in the US, though.

Not my favorite Gundam (that would be the GP02), but it's still one of the designs I find appealing.

>>

>>15071609
Damn those look badass. Is it still possible to get that figure?
>>
A SRW OG model kit from Koto
>>
I bought a shitload of Transformers and whatnot as a child, acquired from garage sales, most notably a vehicle force voltron, IE Dairugger.
The first new stuff that I consciously had to save my pennies and lemonade stand money for were the Gridman toys that got released in America as Super Human Samurai Syber Squad. They were pretty mind blowing for small child me.
>>
An HG Sandrock someone gave me in the Wing days.

I don't know why but back then everyone had a Sandrock. I saw an unlined nubby Sandro in the football team locker room. Friends who didn't know what Gundam was had them.
>>
MSiA Re-GZ. My first exposure to mecha, and I never looked back.
>>
>>15070673
A Shining Gundam that was on sale while G was airing when I was eight, also had a John Bull and Burning around the same time since I was really into G when I was a kid.

What's got me into /m/ really between that and watching beast wars with my dad when I was younger than that even.
>>
>>15070717
I'm in the same boat, I had some sort of bootleg Gundam which came with a beam saber and golden claws
>>
My earliest /m/ toys were Machinder Great Mazinga, Steve Austin, Twiki, V.I.N.CENT, Daggit and just about all the Star Wars droids. Later on I got into Transformers and Gobots.
>>
>>15071626
I have seen them pop up on ebay once in a while.
>>
MSiP Contio. Wing was just becoming the big schoolyard talk and I didn't know better since I didn't have cable at the time; it was magenta and had enough bells and whistles to feel like an Epyon successor.

Now close to 20 later I'm wishing it got an RD. The old plastic and the carelessness of youth led me to lose the beam saber, the handle of the beam loop saber, and one of the Shot Claw teeth.
>>
>>15070673
Kamen Rider Kuuga
>>
As a kid or as a collector?

As a kid, a big, chunky Destroid Phalanx (or whatever it was called in Robotech). It only had basic articulation and didn't do anything special like sounds or launching missile, but it was still one of my favorite toys.

As a collector, Robot Damashii Masurao. It was fragile and floppy, and not long after getting it, it took a tumble from a shelf and broke. Kind of put me off buying Japanese figures in general for a while. It's a real shame. I love the entire Flag/Brave lineage, but they just do not translate well to real life.
>>
It was this little SD Shining Gundam toy that transformed to Super mode when you pushed down the V-Fin.
>>
>>15070673
Well, it actually started when my sister bought me a 12 inch figure of Motoko Kusanagai, which set off my collection fag instincts. After that, I picked up an HGUC RX-79 G as my first Gunpla.

Landers of Da-Garn

When I was a kid Da-Garn aired on my local television, I remember nothing of it but the toys that came out.

Down on my local store they released each part every few weeks (or months? children have difference perception of time), I remember playing with the pieces I had at the time until I finally had them all and finally combine them together, lovely days.
>>
I remember owning a set of small Gundam Wing action figures.
>>
>>15071609
Outside of the super-wide chest and weird shape of the head, it doesn't look bad proportion-wise, for an old toy. Nice.

MSiA GM and Ball combo, and I still have the Ball. It's missing its arms, though.

I remember this because there was some asshole at the playground who said that the arms were actually legs, and it ran around like some kind of spastic ostrich. I didn't believe him, but since I didn't get to watch the show for some time afterwards there was that twinge of doubt...

I got hooked instantly.

Though when I was a kid, I had an MSIA Zaku 2 I got from a Flea Market for 99 cents, and I cherished and loved it deeply.

one of the transmetals from beast wars, i think it was rhinox. from there it was whatever transformer that looked cool till, i learned about the revoltech line and got optimus, megatron, starscream and rodimus (this i got it really cheap compared to the others).
but the one that make me fall to the slippery slope of collecting jap figures was the dangaioh revoltech. from there: revo tetsujin, a bunch of the revo getter robos, giant robo, enki, and then i jump to other lines and got SRC mazinger z (toei version), genesic gaogaigar and gaofighgar, and RD god gundam and master gundam

Probably this guy, GeeWun Snaptrap with the parts to make the combiner. I never had any of the other bots to make the combiner, though.
>>
Not counting Transformers or gunpla, Chogokin Gunbuster.

I know that GL figure is cheap but goddamn, I just don't like Revoltech. Is there a Chogokin/SOL GL I can get? I don't like GL looking like a bitch next to GGG and Shin Getter.

SRC Gurren Lagann is quite good, although the legs/knees are a bit weird. Be prepared to fork over some extra dough for the Giga Drill.

If you've really got cash to spare, there's the Konami and Riobot figures.
