It's just the usual superstitious nonsense that plagues series that haven't had any luck with fansubs.

Regarding JA-Scanlations, I think their last release was less than two months ago. Maybe I'm missing something or I'm just too used to waiting months between releases, but it still seems a bit soon to write them off as a lost cause.
