Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

For example, all ankle joints are light as shit, so even a basic back piece will make them go wonky. Same with elbow joints. Smaller kits like God Gundam are fine, but bulkier ones lack articulation due to the older frames lacking mobility. Of course the seam lines. Coloration is also atrocious, which is fine if you're a paint fag.

Expensive hobby nippers are great for snapfags because their sharpness and hardness ensures minimal nub-marks left behind. Anything below that will still require additional work...shaving, sanding, painting, etc. You might as well get the cheaper non-hobby options.

Besides, manicure stuff is almost always stainless steel, there's no risk of rusting.

Strike IWSP

Got back into Gunpla after a years long absence. Even then, I had only partially assembled one kit because I got distracted by other things. That was about six years ago now. My best friend growing up was really into Gunpla though so I learned some tricks of the trade from him.

I've decided that for now I want to stick with 1/144 scale because they're not only cheaper, but they also fit more easily in shelves.

First kit I built was the NG Epyon. I figured that if I were to make a mistake I'd do it on a kit that probably wouldn't look good anyways. I ended up making a huge mistake, mistaking a joint peg on the right arm for a sprue, but I'll probably mend it together at some point. I have to say that for an unpainted NG, it actually looks decent once it's assembled. I'll probably get to painting it one of these days just to get my feet wet.

Next up was the HGUC Revive RX-78-2. Really simple kit, took even less time to assemble than the Epyon, but rock solid and good looking. I did accidentally overextend one of the hinges on a knee joint but it thankfully only bent a bit and didn't break.

And today I assembled the HGUC Alex. Besides the V-fin and the torso (which for some reason does not want to fit correctly), it went quite smoothly. This one seems to be even sturdier than the newer RX-78, though I guess it has to be to be able to stand under the weight of the armor.

Next I'll be building the HGUC GP-03, followed by the Revive Hyaku Shiki, HGUC Qubeley II, HGUC Unicorn Destroy, HGUC V2, HGUC Crossbone X1 and HG Tallgeese III. After these I may venture into MG's though I have come to prefer the 1/144 scale for a lot of suits desu.

Weird question: has anyone done a less detailed version of the sazabi ver ka? The base kit already looks like a fairly cluttered custom paint and detail job, and I was wondering what it would look like if it were made to be more "anime" looking, if that makes sense. Like, a look somewhere closer to the original mg but with ver proportions and all sounds kinda neat.

No. 130, Kidou Musha Daihagane. released in the mid 90s at the peak of the SD Gundam fad.

It was one of the first BBsenshi kits with a SD form that turns into a "normal" form. It's a giant mech suit in the story and you can actually stick a small victory-maru (musha V1 gundam) inside as a pilot.

MG Alex completed. My first refurbished kit and "complete" kit in terms of getting all the basics more or less right (like priming for paint scratching, doing waterslides properly, etc.). Glad to finish one last kit before the end of the year.

Pre-topcoat. Turned out pretty craptastic. Was originally going for a blue color, but the paint melted off for seemingly no reason. I had tio strip most of it and repaint it. So then I tried to make it look like a ninja in black. Some paint started rubbing off when I put it together. I was going to cut a V into the eye sticker to make it an angry ninja, but fucked it up and cut it in half, so I just painted the eye on. A combination of literally everything going wrong and me not being fucked to care anymore, I think this is the best this gok is gon get. Just need to top coat it and ill call it a day.

Not much on that is sculpted asides from the cockpit, face, and tip of the crotch. The chest was a mix of pla-plate as a base and green stuff for filler that was sanded/shaved down once the green stuff had hardened overnight. Afterwards any gaps were puttied up with Tamiya White Putty and then sanded/shaved again. The hole in the mouthpiece was carved out with an x-acto and a chisel.

Does /m/ like "what-if"/non-canon colour schemes on Gunpla? I had an idea for a Zaku done in Arctic Harrier colours (pic related, not my model BTW), or maybe Berlin Brigade. Finally found time to finish building Barbatos Lupus I got myself for Christmas. I know the pic is kinda shit quality, but best I can do at the moment.
The only kit I've built this year, I don't think I'm going to be ordering a lot in 2017 either, bummer.

Never really been a fan of Barbatos leg design, but this kit really looks amazing, don't regret the spontaneous purchase at all.

I'd like to start out by saying I'm not a big mecha fan. I only started watching IBO because a friend of mine thought it'd be a neat series to watch together. I saw Gusion Rebake and thought it looked like the hypest shit ever so I got it.

My question is, is plamo strictly Gundam? Are there other shows that get plastic models to build? Building this thing is pretty damn fun and I'd like to make a hobby out of it, but I'm not sure I'll get the excitement if I don't necessarily know the figure I'm building.

If you want things based on games or shows you like it's pretty much a case by case basis and generally pretty rare if it's not a mecha show. I know there are some megaman and etrian odyssey kits. Besides mecha the biggest scene is military models I think but unless you're a history nerd you probably aren't any more attached to those designs than to mechs.

It's 2016. You can go on youtube and find 10 billion videos on applying waterslides. They're not hard. I seriously don't understand why people have this phobia of waterslides. Trust me, if you know how to use them, they're actually the easiest type of decal to apply.

All you do is wet them, wait, and then slide them off. Because they slide on water you can maneuver them around and get it right, then just press down with a q-tip and gently wick away the excess water. They are fragile. They can break apart. But most of the time, applying them to a flat surface, it's nothing to worry about.

I like it but it could use some more work on the arms. The shoulder armor could have something tacked on to the sides of the plates to cover more of the shoulder joint since even retracted a ton of the joint is just unarmored. I'd use some thicker arms too. Maybe jack the arms off a Gundam since they're going to be slightly thicker and longer to fit the melee theme more.

OVA version is 90% the exact same kit and even includes every runner from the ver.ka.

It just includes 2 new parts to add vulcans to the head and some new armor parts for the legs that very mildly improve knee articulation (its still only like a 90 degree bend though). Oh, and a slightly changed part on the waist armor.

Mostly because I dont like that out of the box "shiny" plastic look. Sanding down from 400 grit to 1000 gives it enough of a matte finish while keeping the surface smooth. The shinier, untreated plastic just looks out of place.

Also, its good practice for when I eventually get an airbrush and can paint the pieces prior to assembly.

Where do my fellow mx posters get their topcoats from? Do you order online or do you have a hobby shop near you?

Hobby stores ( Hobby Lobby, Hobby town USA, Michaels) in the USA. Don't live near the border? Hell if I know.

top coating it should take care of the reflection but that might cover the weathering entirely. it a nice weathering effect, tho.

Did you apply it when it was too cold or didn't shake it enough? its hard to mess up primer. No matter you're supposed to paint over it.

Remember to shake, thin and stir your paint accordingly too. in most hobby paints water is a good enough thinner.

I've painted without primer just fine, I put on that first coat of primer following the instructions and watching guides but now the plastic's got cracks and is even melting in some places. I used Krylon CoverMAXX and looking at reviews now it's apparent I made a bad decision. Sprayed it on in my basement, which is fairly warm
