Kyuranger's casting decisions actually make a lot of sense. Voice actors are a whole lot cheaper than face actors and voice and suit actors don't have huge lists of demands from their agencies saying what they can and can't do.

Making most of the cast non-human lets them direct the budget towards other things, which considering the premise and apparent setting of the show, they're gonna need every yen.

I was thinking more along the lines of high toy sales leading to a bigger budget later in the show. But I guess that wouldn't make sense now that I think about it because the toy sales would have to get split up between the store that sold it, the manufacturer, the employees for both the store and the manufacturer, whoever made the materials used in production and all of their employees and so on and so on. Toei would see some of that money but probably not enough. Then again, I don't actually know how sales are split up at all.

I don't think that's the case either since if the show managed to sell well with what they had, they wont put more money in it if it already works. Not to mention Bandai isn't really that interested after the last toy(in sentai, the final mech) has been announced, which is why some shows get plot heavier after that or some introduce new rangers more related to the plot(like ZyuohBird).

They can always show partial suit damage as opposed to direct helmet damage. I'm not sure on how they can pull it off if they want action scenes as compelling as HK action movies. Sentai is a different beast when showing damage. If HK goes for blood and pain after being directly punched. Sentai has a whole set of different problem of showing problems showing damage. Unless its a swordfight/knifefight it would be challenging to pull off.

Finished Go-Busters first five episodes. Enter is essentially Sentai Hero gone awry. Its also pretty nice that he and the heroes develop in unison. Cool supporting cast too. Its also pretty cool for referencing MMPR's It's Morphin Time. Even the animal sidekicks don't get in the way ala Go-Onger. They actually make a good counter-balance to their human counterparts.

Actually, they never call the hero's mech Megazords throughout the show. Only the enemy mech are called that, the hero mechs are referred to as Buster Machines.

I got what you meant, it's an umbrella term in Go-Busters, what I meant was at no point did they actually say "Megazord" out loud when referring to the hero's mechs. They never called them "Megazord Ace" or "Buster Megazord" etc. They were always referred to as either Buster Machines or Buster vehicles.

They closest they got was with LT-06 Mane LiOh, which was referred to as a "Buddyzord", since it was a Megazord and Buddyroid in one.

What did you think of the team? I personally liked them best as just the three, I didn't feel like Gou and Ken fit in or even fit together. It didn't feel like a team of 5 to me or even 3 + 2, more 3 + 1 + 1. Great show even with that. I'm sad we'll almost definitely not get a 10YA, as it was Go-Busters level of unpopular unfortunately.

I thoroughly enjoyed them. I liked Gou and Ken, but when it was the two of them together or on their own, they were much better. The triangle was pretty hard to break up and I didn't really like the point were Gou could just enter Tohja and take Ran's place, but at least that happened once, then he had his own Tohja to use.

But yeah, the main three were fantastic, especially Retsu.

I feel you. And yeah, Retsu's fantastic. I wasn't big on him at the start, but he grew a hell of a lot on me, he's one of my all-time-fave toku characters now. Perfect balance of snooty and hot-blooded, and his fighting style is by far my fave of any sentai character (except maybe Don's).

Zyuohgers' average ratings for up to episode 23 are 3.94%, which is already close to Ninninger's 3.86% average, and it has many episodes lower than that afterwards, certainly bringing the average low, although I'm too lazy to add them up and calculate them myself.

So, it has low ratings and merchandising. There's nothing suggesting it's a popular show.

I remember dropping the show after episode because I was already sick of Jan's antics by then. Revisiting and finish watching it years later made me realize how good it was. The rest of the cast really helped elevate the show, and I guess that's what Super Sentai is about.

A multitude of factors. There wasn't a collectible toy line aside from the continued selling of Gokaiger's line of Ranger Keys. The series was too different from the Sentai norm of the past couple years and it didn't gel well enough with the toy buying audiences, making them retool it halfway through. The toys weren't very high quality aside from the mech toys. Gokaiger was still fresh in people's minds which was one of their most popular all-round ages season of the past couple years. It just had a lot of weight on it's shoulders and fell on it's face.
