PvP has been cross-server for a while now, within the same datacenter. The big changes in 3.5 are cross-server PARTY FINDER (not just Duty Finder) and I think no more GC restrictions on PvP. So previously you could have 100 Adders and 100 Flames queued for PvP and it would never movie if there were just 5 Maelstrom looking to fight. Now everyone's in the same pool and will just get shunted onto team A / B / C across faction lines.

But with everyone else doing the shit to get the armor the queues will pop like lightning anyhow.

Wow that movie was really nice. Lots of great little moments like Ema pillaring a monster and Roberto standing with the daggers in front of the Horror at the end. The final fight seemed really short but most of the fights were great to watch.

Nah the movie was pretty decent. A little too long for its own good but I liked it. The only side thing I haven't liked so far was Black Blood and even that had its good points

I actually enjoy Makai Priest-centric stuff once in a while. In fact, I'd watch a full-on magical girl anime spinoff about cute priestesses having romantic comedy escapades and kicking Horror ass. Garo himself can be the dashing Tuxedo Mask-like figure who shows up to help sometimes and sweep the main heroine off her feet.

What a weird movie Divine Flame was.

It wasn't bad, but thematically it was all over the place. Like, the movie notes that there's a very real risk of Germain becoming a Horror...But it never happens. Even after he shields Leon and his son from a hail of spikes and apparently vanishes off-screen, he is completely unharmed later. Can he not be killed in spirit form?

Then you have the movie-only Makai Knight, who is obviously compromised. Like, the main characters KNOW he's compromised, and they still take no action against him - Not even a "Dude, I think it'd be better if you didn't come with us." - until it breaks out into an open brawl.

Then we see that Alfonzo appears to have some kind of connection to the female Horror, but no, that comes to nothing in the end too.

Don't get me wrong, the visuals were great. But so much of the story seems to be at an odd kind of loose end - they set up all these Chekov's guns they never actually fire.

Here's the thing. They had NO idea what the entire ordeal was about initially. They probably thought Dario didn't know his waifu turned into a Horror, and by the time Dario is there at the same time as her, he fully becomes a Dark Knight.

I will say though, it's kinda cool. I don't remember another time in Garo where you get to actually SEE a Makai Knight become a Dark Knight like that. I think the closest was actually in the anime as well, with shieldguy. But seriously the "Well, if she's a Horror, okay then" and suddenly his armor completely flips. Like a completely calm berserk mode.

Then again Divine Flame is barely more than an extended episode with a lot of budget behind the fight scenes. The biggest bit of character development is Leon taking up fishing. Not even the Fonz managed to get a any kind of sex drive in the 3 years since the show.

Why is it that the show presents these really, genuinely creepy scenarios and scenes, and then do something to completely destroy any of the creepiness of it?

Like the episode with the finger collector, it was pretty fucking creepy, and then they reveal the bright orange and blue glowing arms, which kind of tarnished the creepiness of the situation. And then im on episode 10, and the pirouette was pretty fucking creepy, especially how he killed people, and then he turns them into big CGI balls to play with and that really horribly done scene where he swallows like whole.

The style, designs and atmosphere of GARO is on point for being creepy, but it just feels like the writers behind it like to shoot themselves in the foot in terms of spookiness and go over the top and makes it just plain silly

I agree that levity is a good inclusion for horror, but when you set up monsters to be nightmarish and spooky, and then have them do ridiculous antics or really jarring CGI gags, it kind of takes the air out of the balloon, which I feel is a detriment to the entire series.

Thats what I love though, I've always wanted a show, or a movie, where it's a horror completely played straight, except for the hero, someone who stands up to these nightmarish things without hesitation and can fight them and win. Someone who can beat down those poltergeists, or those slasher movie monsters, someone who COULD go toe to toe with Jason or Freddy, and beat them. He should've instead mercy-killed his love-turned-horror and moved on with the memory of her pushing him to actually fight to protect humanity.

He is, along with many antagonists in the setting, a foil to Leon and Leon is a foil to them.

They all suffered tragedies, but they used those to justify their increasingly morally questionable acts. Leon however manned up after losing and regaining the GARO armor when he realized that vengeance wasn't the right thing to do.
