It's a VN with tactical battles (think Sakura Wars).

Princess flees from dimension/planet (one of those) because it got taken over by the bad guys and lands in the MC's school with the robot. Her allies were brainwashed and sent one by one MoTW style to attack but they get cured and that's how the team grows. Some harem-ish school hijinks but there's only one ending.

The original Thundercats was frequently bizarre and occasionally quite dark as well. The show starts out with the Thundercats planet being destroyed and most of the refugee space ships being destroyed by pirates.

The Technopede was from the original, as were were Herkie and Sampson, the giant frog robots built to guard the drain plug at the bottom of the ocean.

That's Zeorymer Omega, I think. It's the sequel to the one you're referring to.

Honestly, the most astonishing thing about that Zeorymer manga is how greatly the OAV was able to take the initial concept of "mecha pilot has a kind of Dr. Jeckle/Mr. Hyde deal" and improve on it.

Its powers are basically the first five Reideen's elemental powers mixed with Eagle's sword scaled up. Theoretically it probably has the second five Reideen's powers too, but we don't see it use that because again, this thing got in one fight in the last episode, and it spent that entire fight getting its ass kicked and trying desperately to not die.
