*** THERE IS NO "GUNPLA/PLAMO GENERAL" DISCORD SERVER, THERE IS ONLY A TEXT CHANNEL ON THE /m/ DISCORD: https://discord.gg/TGjVRAG ***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Anyone bought this?

How is it?
>>
>>15041456
Still building it, but I can tell it's pretty fragile due to being made of soft plastic, joints and all.
>>
>>15041431

the only thing that doesn't swap out well is the graze ein, and that's just because it's so fucking huge compared to the other IBO kits
>>
So what are peoples' thoughts on the 1/100 Vidar?
>>
>>15041456
The plastic sucks and because of that the thing is really fragile.

The parts are often too tight on the joints (also due to the plastic) that you will want to sand them down a bit before putting everything together. Also after that, stress marks every where.

Looks decent even without stickers. It is just the base plastic is a bit too thin in color.

Design wise it is good and simple, but this thing is clearly not MIJ like those from the Bandai's gunpla department.

But overall I would say it is a decent alternative to the way expensive the metal alloy. (Got Megazord preordered already)

Reposting because the other thread apparently isn't the real one?

Does anyone have any tips for getting smoother layers with Vallejo? I'm using thinner, retarder, and Air paint at a ratio of 2:2:10, and its looking fine, but the gloss coat looks orange-peel-y. I'm only using like 10-15 PSI on my airbrush.

As someone who used to be a snapfag for the last 6 years, I'm prioritizing my kits in this order

>Finished customs
>Finished straight builds of higher quality
>Unfinished customs that still look presentable
>Finished straight builds that fit with the display but could use a little retouching
>Models that I question why I bought these (Impulse buys like the Zedas, Serpent, Extreme Gundam) and Models that are unsalvageable (an old yellowed MG GP01FB from when you could get kits at TRU/Walmart, a MP Guncannon, and a few fucked up painted kits that I'd rather not look at)

Everything in the last section is stored in either a medium-sized plastic tub or plastic bags to keep shit together. An example of a custom I'd rather not look at is pic related, a kit that went well during the build phase but something that I fucked painting due to me fucking up the paintjob by attempting to handpaint using improperly thinned Mr. Color instead of spraypainting it. I'll try stripping the paint off someday, but I keep it around as a reminder of how things were starting out.

Sorry for asking a stupid question, but how do I get the regular stickers to keep their color? When I put them on a darker surface they look ruined.

For $5 that's not too shabby. Basically completing 3 kits that wouldn't get regular releases on their own and supplying Full City with the guns it needs without forcing you to buy four Rebakes for rifles. Shame about Option set 8 having only one shoulder piece for the Scharfrichter though, it looks bad in comparison with this new set.

I think the biggest issue I have with Set 8 is the Reginlaze Open Hands...

I was building my re/100 bawoo today when I lost the piece that you use to plug in the side skirt. As an unintended benefit of that I cleaned my whole living room and found all sorts of shit behind my couch that I thought I'd lost but not the piece I was looking for. My roommate has a budget 3D printer but that shit just broke so that options out. I even turned out all my spare poly caps from other kits to see if one would work as a replacement (nope.) I'm at work now but my spirit is still pretty thoroughly crushed from all that fruitless searching.

I admit, I've only built the VF-31, but none of the others rely on stickers for major colors applications like it does. Even on the VF-1 which has a similarly huge sheet, most of its stickers are pretty small and easy to place.
>>
>>15046512

The VF-31s have very complex color schemes that would be incredibly difficult to mold in separate pieces unless you wanted the scale to be like 1/35 or something and then the price would quadruple. Look at all the stripes and shit. That said the number of stickers is fairly consistent throughout.

Macross designs have a lot more fancy detail so they're always going to be sticker-heavy. It's just the way it is. If you're going to buy a Macross kit you just have to accept it and know what you're getting into.
>>
>>15046526

Zaku update.
Fitted a couple of fuel tanks to the backpack (wave option parts) and stuck on a couple of detail parts too.
Replaced the ball and socket joints on the cannon mounts with some much sturdier kotobukiya flexible arm parts.
Still needed to scratchbuild the middle coupling because the koto one had too much flex.

Then you'll be cumming buckets by the time you start lining the left shoulder.

I used to like them a lot, but then I saw how it's used as a lazy way of adding surface detail for designs that didn't need them. Lining dense swathes of panel lines is still oodles of fun though.

Bawoo guy again. So I found the part and it's a totally epic and random story! I guess it mostly involves me moving furniture and finding the missile that goes on the wing of my g-self (how that got buried under a love seat in the corner of the living room when the model itself never left my personal quarters is a matter I don't want to ponder too much) but also cutting open a trash bag, spreading it across the floor, and upending the rotted contents of the trash can on it and sifting through thinking I had maybe swept the part up and tossed it during my search. Eventually it occurred to me that while I was shifting around on the couch while I was building it might have fallen into one of my back pockets. When this proved not to be the case I checked my front pockets for the sake of thoroughness and lo and behold. I feel like a piece of shit for the lengths I went to to find this piece only to find it on my person.

Sanding there very ends of the nubs flush with the piece will look the best. Some people use those disposable nail files things.
A good pair of nippers can do a really good job it just doesnt look as good.
>>
>>15048799
Hobby nippers for cutting parts off of runners, cut a bit away from the part so a bit of gate is left, then you can get a cleaner second cut. I use a pair of Tamiya cutters, "sharp pointed side cutter for plastic", they've worked perfectly fine for me, it's not always a clean cut(no stressed plastic, etc), but they work wonders, it's worth getting a bit more expensive stuff it seems

X-acto knife / Tamiya design knife if you want to shave/cut the left over nubs. I used what I guess is an x-acto knife, but the Tamiya one with what I think is Olfa blades are really nice.

Hobby / Diamond files for really tough sanding(gotta be careful since it can rape the part if you do it too much/hard), you can find some cheap packages around, or buy individually.
Sand paper/sanding sponges for a bit gentler sanding. I use some tamiya sanding sponges, they are pretty okay, I just don't know how to use them too well, can't say much about sand paper itself as I only have rough stuff

Dont get one with a No.11 blade for nubwork,

You're better off getting one that works with 30-45 degree blades (top one) since they're easier to control, so much less accidents of cutting yourself.

The handles of X-Acto type blades supports hobby saws though, so it's well worth keeping one around.

That set should be around 20 bucks in America, IIRC. So you're paying a markup, but you're European so you always will be paying a markup. I would say that's a fair price.

I live in Amsterdam as well, and honestly I'm surprised at how few hobby stores we have considering it's a decently big city. So far I've found the following for ordering various goods from though:
http://www.sjaakshobbyshop.nl/

There is a physical store that I currently can't remember the name of way off to the west of the city, but it's too much of a trip for me to bother. If you're going to order online it shouldn't matter much where it comes from as long as you don't have to pay international shipping, anyway.

I haven't actually checked these for blades because I still had a bunch from way back but surely they must have them.
>>
>>15049562
There's a use for all of them once you delve deeper into customising, scratchbuilding, modding, etc...The curved woodcarving is pretty based though. If you can get the angle and slicing force right, it's perfect for everything.

The hobby knife I posted before is just a recommendation, if you cant get a hold of one, it's completely fine to use any hobby knife you can get a hold of.
>>
>>15049562
Better to have blades you don't need now than not have the right blade for the job in the future.
>>
>>15049577
Oh thanks dude, I thought I wasn't looking hard enough, but now I know that it isn't just me, also where to you buy your kits?
The only place I could find was a small shop that is in the same street as the Anne Frank house, but that place sells out really quickly.
I was lucky enough to get the very last Lupus, despite the fact that he had his last shipment of gunpla last week.

>>15049594
Thanks I think I am going to buy it anyway.
It will hurt my inner jew, but I have enough disposable income to waste a bit of my money on something I am actually really enjoying.

I just import in batches. I've been to Space Oddity once and I was actually surprised at how much stuff they had, but I guess that might just be my low expectations of local nerd stores. I just ended up adding anything I wanted to my hlj order instead of buying it there, though.

Ik was ook best verbaasd dat ze shit hadden van BF en zelfs IBO s2.
Ik dacht dat ze alleen kits zouden hebben van wing en seed ofzo.

Then I'll check hlj out too, but thanks everyone for helping me out, I really appreciate it.
I just tried it on a whim, but I ended up spending 6 hours straight on it, Gunpla building is suprisingly fun and addicting.

but an origin zaku is more likely as the 200th MG

I bought the Dryon 3(P-Bandai recolor of Tryon 3) and its swivel joint at the thigh is really loose and dangly. it doesn't have a peg inside the joint, just two circles of plastic. Is this supposed to happen? The leg can barely stand up on its own.

Is there a reason to prefer using a box cutter over an actual x-acto knife (or similar)?

If you are too poor to afford an hobby knife, which really doesnt make sense since they sell hobby knives at dollar stores for cheaper then box cutters

I'm guessing the designer with good taste was moved from HGUC to Re/100. Like how Hasbro Moved around designers and now we're finally getting Combiners and Headmasters,

I really wish there were interviews or some info about who designs and chooses the kits for HGUC/MG/RE/100.

Holy grail for an existing kit would be the P-Bandai MG Gelgoog Cannon, I love me some cannon suits.

For something new it would definitely be an MG/Re/100 Leo hopefully with a bunch of its accessories including its shoulder cannons.

Broke one of the shoulders. Good thing the kit comes with six (two different skin colours + white for the armoured mode).

Painted the shoulder after this photo, waiting for it to dry. Also redoing all the red bits because they weren't quite what I was going for, trying just pink this time.

Maybe you sanded the balls in the joints too much and made them too small for the polycaps? I don't really know how you could've caused this, but you can always add some glue to whatever isn't holding and wait for it to cure before sticking it back in to make it a bit thicker, and just keep doing that until it's thick enough to stay.
