this show has been really frustrating to watch. When does this show start to have stakes involved? No one dies, really, and there's no real consequences or weight to anyone's actions. Even the inevitable complete paralysis of Mika has no weight, mostly because he's a walking cliche rather than a fleshed out character. At least this MA thing has been fun in the sense that it's playing on the strengths of the setting but it'll just end up being neatly solved with a slight consequence to the main cast.

The biggest issue with this season has to be that there really isn't any full fledged arc for everyone. And they've had two really decent ones already! The proxy war between the two superstates was a really, really neat idea that got too cleanly wrapped up. The MA hunting and whatnot is also really cool. Everytime Julietta, Iok, and Vidar are on screen I cringe because they're all really dumb characters.

Also fuck the whole "no beams" thing. The MS should be a lot more detailed and whatnot in order for it to work. The grunts are really good looking and would be better if they had beam rifles, etc. And Barbatos needs some beam melee weapons asap.

Sorry for the whole word vomit but like this show is only decent when it could be good if it could figure out what it wanted to be. Hell, they're still not really talking about the elephant in the room of child soldiers/human debris despite how it should be the main thing. Why isn't there a fuggin bad guy analog to Tekkadan? Anyways, I'll keep watching and keep being frustrated with a show that has the parts to be good and is fine with being middling.

No, I'm all for a "no beams" concept but there's nothing to differentiate the normal ammo based guns from beam weapons in this series other than sound effects. Like if you went and looked at a built model, you wouldn't be able to tell whether or not it was a beam rifle or a regular bullet firing gun. I want to be able to tell from the designs that they're regular shell firing weapons. Beam saber melee is just cooler to me though, I don't like how contrived the melee weapons are and how it's more or less just these super advanced MS clanking together.
I'm all for exploration and change in the franchise, just own it though.

See, there's the problem, in that they wouldn't care. Mika murders anyone who poses a threat and doesn't give a fuck about their circumstances, Orga's only goal at the end of the day is to guarantee that Tekkadan has a 'place of their own' at any cost and everybody else just doesn't really seem to give a damn. Even Merribit's stopped caring and she was one of the most vocal critics of Tekkadan's actions in the first season.

It would make sense too. Any pilot with Alaya-Vijnana interface runs the risk of ending up like Mikazuki after the next episode, so Orga won't have people piloting Gundams for a little while until this thing is fully investigated further.

Bandai's always done some outside-the-show mechanics book sort of thing and this gives them the chance to have the designer (or group of ) crank out every design they want since the only real thing each suit shares is the frame and they've gone outside the box with 2 of them already (Gasion into Rebake, Flauros)

Umm, no. Sure, the main characters are immune but everybody else is fair game.

Beam weapons were actually killing the series. It's kinda like how they gave everybody a shield in Dark Souls and shields became a crutch for most players and when Bloodborne took the shields away players had more fun with a more aggressive playstyle that made the previous games better retroactively.

In the case of Gundam, beam weapons were pretty to look at but it became a lazy way out. Why bother with armor whent he enemy has Beam Weapons? Why bother with guns when the enemy has Beam Weapons? Why bother with melee weapons when the enemy has beam weapons? Really, the only good design in Gundam was a really cheap, really fast design with a beam rifle and that was that.
