He wasn't an edgebot, but he was far more antagonistic towards biological life than the bot in Rogue One was. I can see him inspiring that bot, but the inspiration appears to be more in spirit than in direct reference since the Rogue One bot shares his tendency towards callous commentary and being individualistic, but not his exact personality or mannerisms.

There is no lore about his mask design in universe that I can see. I see interviews about the mask design as a movie prop, that it was based on Vader's helmet (which makes sense frankly) and was designed to catch the light and reflect light as well as be like Vader's helm and I see speculation from fans as to the origins of the Knights of Ren and their outfits, but I don't see any in universe history as to Ren's mask. Not even on Wookiepedia, and those guys are pretty anal about cataloging even minor details.

There's always something about humanoid droids that makes them look... off. I suppose some of them would be based on alien races, but even then K2-SO just looks unsettling with his too-long, too-thin limbs and dead-eyed skull face.

I guess it's intentional design considering he was originally an Imperial droid though.

Because the entire point would be to design something based off it without aping it exactly? The designer interview even says as much, that it had to look inspired by it, without looking too much like it or people would just complain about that.
