Several times in show, even random grunts in Grazes have gotten the upper hand over Tekkadan, and the Graze itself is said to be modern and on par with the Gundam frame save for the dual reactors. Lafter too was able to put Mikazuki on the back foot, and Ein outright massacred his way through everything in his path until Barbados went full weeaboo on it.

Tekkadan gets by because the murder manlet is hardwired into his mace-swinging killing machine and Galigalihorn's scrubs aren't. Guts constantly got his ass kicked until he got the Gusion and trained like a motherfucker to git gud, and similarly benefits from the AV system.

I love the Geirail too though Anon, really would have been nice to see more of it.

First fight Gali and Fareed vs Mika Gali almost got killed because the gundam was too powerful for his wire claw.

Lafter had a high speed custom MS not a graze and Ein wasn't piloting a standard Graze.

I just realized something. If Eindroid is still alive, then the MA will be his final form somewhere down the line given his previous fight with Mika and Kudelia talking about how they are sinful children as well as his general disregard for everything just to kill for Vidar/Gali.

Besides, it will interesting to see how AV system interacts with MA in terms of piloting.

The main issue is that he talks as if he was an insider at Bandai and he knows the figures and everything.

A more sensible claim is that they are taking it easy on the 1/100 IBO line with more MG releases coming out out in the early part of next year (MG Psycho Zaku this month as well).

So basically the gundams shut down when they come into close range of the MA because they have a system conflict, it tries to release a limiter on the MS' responses to fight the MAs but the life support cuts in to protect the pilot.

Mika breaks the system anyway so he may end up paraplegic after this fight judging by him lying on the floor in the preview. Flauros fires on the MA from outside visible range so it's spared, but Akihiro's knocked unconscious when his system fails and is still comatose.

Season 1 had some down-time in the middle that I think a lot of people have latched on to, and in the grand scheme of things the overall plot didn't have too many things happening.
Season 2 I think is genuinely much better in that regard. There's that guy that keeps yelling "FILLER" but I'm fairly he's a troll, Season 2 has been plenty eventful thus far in terms of plot and actual action. I love how people keep saying

The MA is not jobbing, but it will be defeated by Mikazuki not because he is magically great, but because he is giving up and sacrificing parts of his body to the "demon", the "angel hunter" that is the Barbatos.

I hope Flauros gets to use it's Galaxy Cannon again, which was pretty fucking cool, and that the Helwige does do some damage to it.
I'm guessing that either Mikazuki will kill it himself and hurt McGillis' ambitions of taking all the credit for defeating it, or he will severely damage it, along with himself and the Barbatos, with the help of others. Then in sweeps either Vidar or the Helmwige who take the kill and credit.
Hell, maybe Orga gets in his King-Of-Mars Custom Shiden Frame and takes the kill for extra Tekkadan validation. Who knows. Honestly IBO has been treading a line between expected clichés and being unpredictable. I haven't ever been able to actually predict what was going to happen plotwise aside from Aston dying. If you were around for S1, I was the guy who was able to predict a bunch of the clichéd scenes from the previews for the episode when they arrive on Earth, but not much else.

I don't think it's really fair to judge a show by "HABBENDINGS" though.
First of all, far from trying to suggest that everything should be more like UC gundam, I just think IBO is taking the right direction in revitalizing the TV gundam formula after the atrocities that was post gundam-x gundam.

Every goddamn UC TV series was "you steal a gundam in space go to earth to find out that zeon/titans are bad ppl then go back to space to kill a cute newtype girl before you face down the BBEG and win forever". Original gundam had char killing the BBEG, Z had you kill the cute girl on earth, ZZ had you kill two cute newtype girls in space. It was the personal drama that gave a lot of meaning to the events in the series - and human debris/fumitan raising death flags like it's fucking minesweeper was fine as far as that stuff was concerned (except having all sorts of advantage in execution because hey, sunrise have gotten slightly better at making anime over the last 30 years)

I do see your point with the UC tv shows, IBO doesn't really seem to have the same formula other shows have. It manages to do what S1 of 00 tried to do, but it is very hit-and-miss and the reception of it will obviously differ from person to person. It still has the standard Gundam tropes but it uses them in a slightly re-inventive way.
I honestly can't say with full conviction that IBO is like any other Gundam show, whereas with any other Gundam show save Turn A, I can always tie it to something the came before it.

Drawing the defeat off by one episode doesn't make the MA look stronger on it's own, because what it does during that time counts. And Mika beating it in the Barbatos in one go is going to make it look weak regardless. The best way to make it look stronger isn't to make it last another episode or to disable suits via it's very presence, it's to have it defeat the protagonists, even if only partially. Say, take off one of Barbatos' arms and force Mika in to a temporary retreat before they beat it on a second try or something.

Anyhow I think the things that make gundam gundam were all there in season 1. You had politics, personal drama, world-building that re-invents the UC factions in an interesting way (sans-newtypes in the case of IBO), ragtag teenagers that steals gundams and fight an uphill battles, and a char clone that's probably the best executed version of char...ever, really. I'd rank mcgillis as the best char ever within the confines of a single TV series (maybe tied with full frontal), since the original char was more or less built up over the course of 0079 and Z with the full product available by the time of CCA.

Like if you compare the pacing of IBO S1 with any other ordinary gundam show, it's actually just a fucking non-competition. If people actually go back to watch 00 they'd fucking remember that the princess was useless for almost the entire show, half the show was spent on the union forces trying to catch up in technology to celestial beings, and so forth.

Sometimes I just don't fucking get what people are smoking when they enjoy shit like g-reco and hate IBO. Like, can anyone even write a summary for that show without drowning their sorrows in a 12 pack?

The sub-plots in S1 felt tangential.

The protagonists are underdogs, you get an exposition about their past and how outmatched they are, but they act like relatively normal kids who don't give the vibe of underdogs when the fight comes around.
