She'd probably struggle against an enemy like Chris, since her LiNKER dependency usually had her in "Kill it as dead as possible as fast as possible" mode. Another Gear user would A) not go down in one hit like most Noise, and B) not be something she'd want to kill, so she'd have to hold back. She'd run her own time limit out pretty quickly, even if they kept her status as "The strongest Symphogear User" had she lived past the concert.

I know she would have struggled but the beauty would have been in the how. Like if Tsubasa and Hibiki were captured by the goo NOISE and Chris showed up, would Kanade have tried to talk to Chris? Or maybe she'd have prioritized rescuing the hostages and escaping. Or would she have gone straight to try and kill Chris because she knew time would be her great enemy.

Specifically with Chris, I can see Kanade being extremely sympathetic to her circumstances, and instead of trying to kill her, trying to calm her down by fighting defensively for as long as possible. Hell, if this is a situation where we had Kanade instead of Tsubasa, the injury that hospitalized her could be not trying hard enough to actually defeat Chris and getting severely injured when her LiNKER ran out, rather than Tsubasa's attempted Zesshou.

Ultimately I think her strategy would depend on the circumstances under which she and Chris were fighting - is this an alternate universe where Tsubasa died instead, or one where Kanade simply didn't die? If she's trying to rescue hostages as you posit, and they were in danger, I think she'd prioritize freeing them over fighting Chris.

For all her ferocity, Kanade's fiery spirit is one that burns to protect others, rather than to hurt them. I think there would have to be some extreme trauma to get her in a mental state where she'd be willing to kill another human. Perhaps if she watched Chris kill Genjuuro or something, that might put her in a rage state similar to how she was when she was first introduced to Div 2.

I was thinking the circumstance Kanade would encounter Chris in much the same way that Tsubasa and Hibiki did in canon for the first time. Chris welding NOISE like she was the mysterious boss responsible for all the attacks including the one that killed her family and the concert which could have possibly killed Tsubasa, and suddenly her new partner Hibiki is captured.

I think she'd probably try and rescue Hibiki and pull a runner. But at the same time she would have the chance to stop the noise potentially for good by stopping Chris and that's a tempting thing.

Most of Kanade's (granted, off-screen) character development was changing so that she wasn't fighting noise because she hated them, but fighting to protect others from them. Like I said, I think there would have to be some pretty serious specific trauma to cause her to go into a blind enough rage to want to beat Chris hard enough to render the Noise a non-threat in their first encounter. Kanade was never as emotionally dependent on Tsubasa as Tsubasa was on her, so while Tsubasa's death would have deeply scarred her, it probably wouldn't be the extreme no-emotions edge-lord thing that Tsubasa did.

If this was a case where Tsubasa died, that would be all the more reason for Kanade to probably try to grab Hibiki and run. If Kanade did go into an extreme depressive state, it would probably be the "I work alone" sort of deal, with her refusing to let Hibiki fight with her because she doesn't want to lose another partner. Plus she's generally the sort who values allies lives over defeating the enemy - sure, if both can be done, that's fantastic, but look at her sacrifice at the concert and the flashback in episode four, the one after she achieves her transformation the first time, and is rescuing soldiers. Their thanks seems to have a profound effect on her, and to me that would indicate a value of life over victory.

Ultimately I agree though, Kanade would be more likely to try to save Hibiki and escape rather than to try to outright beat Chris down on their first meeting.

Tsubasa always came off as less "I work alone" for the sake of keeping Hibiki safe and more "I work alone" because no one else could be Kanade. It wasn't a desire to protect Hibiki, it was her trying to prove to Kanade (or rather, herself) that she was "strong enough" now and didn't need to be protected anymore.

I see what you're saying, and I think we're kind of saying the same thing, just approaching it from two different angles. Kanade would definitely try to keep Hibiki out of combat, but out of her own desire not to lose someone else, rather than to prove she's "strong enough" to do it herself now, like Tsubasa was.

It could also be interesting since it was eventually revealed that Fine and Ryoko were the same person, so she could bring out the positive aspects of it. Kanade's mere presence in G would completely undercut FIS though. I don't think Maria would be able to keep up her Dark Queen persona very easily in front of her.

While the 'Shinais are exaggerated, they are still factual and canon to the series. The 'Shinai for G shows that Maria was barely holding it together in front of Tsubasa, and even though Tsubasa was much more confident in herself by the time G rolled around, she never had the raw exuberance and outgoingness to her personality that Kanade had. Tsubasa was calm and collected and cool, and that had Maria inches from falling apart. Kanade being openly excited and happy (and likely physically affectionate as she was with Tsubasa) to work with Maria would have sent her over the edge almost instantly. Especially if the viewer is to believe that Maria was as much of a Zwei Wing fan as the 'Shinais and Junpaku Innocent indicate.

Essentially, Maria was only able to keep that persona in front of Tsubasa for so long because Tsubasa never actively pushed against it. She was polite and friendly with Maria, before the concert at least, but never really tried to "become friends" with her. Kanade actively pushing to be friends likely would have been more than Maria could handle.

I'm not so sure I agree. Once the Noise appeared she was able to settle pretty strongly into that role with Tsubasa, but she'd also never left that or revealed her softer side. If Kanade was able to warm her up a bit before the show, she'd know Maria was full of shit the moment she started trying to be cool and all Dark Queen again.

Either way, having Kanade instead of Tsubasa (or even in addition to) would shake up the beginning of G fairly substantially. At the very least it would change the audience's perception of Maria right away, unless her character was fundamentally altered. Who knows, maybe Kanade might have even been able to convince Maria to defect earlier, or just outright won the fight on the submarine if it got that far.

I wish she was still around.

To be honest, with Serena, we don't really have anything at all to base speculation on. Kanade at least got around twenty minutes of screen time in S1, which is enough to give the basic core elements of her personality. Serena got, what, thirty seconds and a few sentences from Mamu and Maria? Essentially all we know about her is that she was unreasonably brave for her age, and it's a reasonable assumption that she was quiet, kind, and cheerful. She was meant to be the Kanade to Maria's Tsubasa, but she wasn't developed nearly enough, or at all, really. I don't think it's really fair to speculate on how she would have acted, since we just know too little about her.

Which is a shame, she has a stellar design, as does everyone in Symphogear really, but still.

Well the theory you're running right now is "What if G had Serena instead of Maria," right? Say they keep their personalities, but circumstances mean Maria made the sacrifice against the Nephilim instead of Serena. Could be onto something with an interesting AU, especially if it was an inverted one with Kanade still alive instead of Tsubasa. An extremely cold and cynical Serena would clash with Kanade's personality a lot more than Maria's, and it'd be more believable for her to hold up like that as the season progressed.

Main stories I've been wanting to write take place 6+ months after the last episode, world is peaceful and all that shit, Tsubasa has been on tour for most of it and hasn't seen any of the gears in a long time, save Maria. After a show one night Tsubasa gets a surprise visit from Chris, cute and lewd things ensue as they have both been pretty lonely without each other.
