I'll start. I still think Change Getter is the best Ishikawa ova. It definitely has its flaws, but I think its strengths outweigh any weaknesses it has. I also believe it manages to best capture the style and tone of an Ishikawa manga.

Toei Getter is my personal favorite Getter, it's not the best and isn't as good as Armageddon or New getter but I like the vibe it has.

It's called Try to Remember and acts as a prequel to Armageddon. AFAIK it was only 3 chapters long and only the first chapter was scanlated.

Good because Shin was written with being read after Go in mind.

The OVA are all great and you can in my opinion either watch Armageddon or read the manga first. I recommend watching Shin vs Neo directly after the manga, it's the closest to bring an adaptation but still different enough that it's a fresh experience and even though I love it SvN is easily the worst of the 3 OVAs. I also recommend watching New last, it has a different atmosphere as a retelling and really goes off the rails with New also being the most recent entry it feels more modern.

Armageddon should either be seen first if you haven't read the manga or you watch it after SvN if you read the manga.

recently finished Getter robo Armageddon and currently watching Shin Getter vs Neo Getter. also downloading the original series as well.

really liked SG:A and so far Neo vs Shin is fun only an episode in right now.

so far I'm enjoying the Getter robo series.

I don't understand Getterfags like you that treat the manga as some sort of sacred tome. Everything except maybe SvN makes perfect sense without reading it and even SvN is easy to follow despite not knowing who people like Saotome or Ryouma are.

The sole reason why people recommend the manga is because the continuity in the OVAs is fucked and some people may think they're related other than sharing the same production staff.

It's not required, but I would never recommend watching then before reading. I think Armageddon is an entirely self contained experience that stands fine with 0 knowledge of the franchise. Whole New is fine on its own, if you want to experience the entire franchise however I would say it's not optimal to watch New before reading the manga. New retells a lot of the manga but it's very "similar but notably different." I think if you read the manga first it makes it much more enjoyable and puts certain things into a better perspective, little things like how execution is done different to throw backs. Musashibou is more appreciated if you know Benkei and Musashi separately rather than learning about Musashibou first and seeing his component characters. But that's my opinion, take it for what you will.

As for SvN I feel it's the one that expects you to have read the manga the most, because it's short runtime means less character development time. The characters are super faithful to their manga counterparts so it feels like you are just supposed to have read the manga to fill in the blanks.

Because it's the heart of the franchise, is what all OVAs are based on, was penned by the original creator, and it's just all around a great story?

Aside from that, a lot of the dialog in this chapter kinda implied Ryoma's been going through multiple universes, so that should be interesting to see explained.
