I assume that Gundam Wings was an excuse to revisit the Char/Sayla relationship without insulting Sayla's negligent VA.

Essentially she was supposed to embody the true peaceful message of Deikun while Char/Zechs had lost hope in the constant warfare and didn't see a peaceful end.
