Did he do it on purpose?
Is it just me that thinks that people seem to not appreciate how Tomino's series always have the best choreography?
Everyone always focuses on his wacky characters and way of writing, but no one ever discusses how fucking great the mecha porn is. If you compare a non-Tomino Gundam to a Tomino gundam, the battles in non-Tomino Gundams are always stale in comparison. The pilots just shoot at things and cut down things. When rivals meet its just a comparison of specs. In a Tomino gundam, it's a struggle of wits and skill. The gundam is used creatively, people are thrown about inside their cockpits and feats of skills (such as pushing aside the muzzle of a gun or grabbing the enemy's arm to use their gun) are more prominent.

Unless it's Zeta.
Zeta's battles fucking sucked.
He doesn't speak English so it's doubtful he's creating names in it with full realisation of their meaning. More likely he was going for cool and/or funny names and ended up with lots of double entendres by accident.

>Launch from catapult
>Oh fuck how do I pilot!
>Fly towards enemies
>Statically shoot beam weapons at each other with no aiming at all
>Fly around a bit
>Grapple each other from the back and shout over vox
>Someone scores a hit
>Everyone fucks off back home and cries
>Kamile sasses someone
Bajina isn't pronounced anything like vagina.

Yeah ZZ does have better fights
But Zeta fags get too triggered by the early episodes to finish it

That makes up maybe 10% of the battles. Most of what we get has allot more going on than that, though there are definitely a few episodes were Tomino just wanted to get the battle over with and get back to the plot.
Most of the time we get stuff like episode 26 when Kamille and Yazan have their face off, which involves shifting battle fields, some degree of strategizing, retreats, pilots bailing each other out, melees, grapples, well animated dodging along with the beam rifle dueling, interesting interruptions coming from other pilots in weird situations themselves, etc.
Episodes 8, 12, 13, 19, 30, 35, 47 are other good examples.

Tomino really knows how to choreograph mecha battles, his non-Gundam works are great for it as well. The CCA duel between Amuro and Char will probably always be my favorite. I also have to say, G-Reco was really impressive in terms of choreography, miles ahead of everything out the franchise has offered recently.
