00 S1 was pretty good, aside from the lack of development for the Ptolemy bridge crew, the rushed feel of the show after the Thrones show up, and the absurd amount of stuff that got turned into catchphrases. A lot easier to get into than a lot of UC series.

00 Season 2 was a total clusterfuck. It seems like there was an unholy clusterfuck of executive meddling and Kuroda not being able to come up with stuff in a shorter pre-production cycle, so we got a show overstuffed with characters and bad writing. Also, UC tropes out the ass, which were so out of touch with the feel 00 S1 had that I get the feeling Mizushima deliberately exaggerated them to make the audience hate them too. The mecha designs were also a HUGE step down. The best part was Exia and 0 Gundam fighting each other at the end, with Solid Setsuna being a close second.

The 00 movie is a Gundam movie. It feels like it should've been a 13 episode OVA or something so there'd be time for everything to breathe. The ELS are meh aliens that have to be a hive mind because there's literally no time for anything else. The Feldt/Setsuna stuff is a waste of time, but there's good mecha designs, mecha porn, and a lot of the characters who went to shit in S2 get a chance to redeem themselves a bit.

I would've loved to see a Solar Power Wars prequel OVA or maybe even a sequel set on the Sumeragi, but Lord knows Sunrise LOVES throwing away its AUs after their only series.

UC is the be-all end-all Gundam setting. No matter what happens we will always be getting something in this timeline (Because we really needed that sidestory manga about that one Gundam being produced in 0085 that everyone didn't know about until just now)

AD is fairly grounded (At least S1 and some of S2, it only really goes full retard once Innovators/Ayy Lmaos become a big deal), and the whole Economic Blocks waging against one another is a nice change of pace from "Guys on Earth vs Guys in space"

AW is one part post-apocalypse story and one part UC-Lite. Just a fun AU that doesn't do much wrong.

CC is in the same boat, but the clash of Victorian-Era tech and the stuff the Moon Race is packing makes for a nice dichotomy between the factions for most of the show.

Seed and Seed Destiny may be trash, but the stuff in the CE that's not explored in the shows is pretty cool, about on par for most UC Side-story mangas. What happens within the shows themselves though really drops some points down on it though, especially the whole Clyne Faction shit.

FC's just sounds like an awful place to live, unless you're a Gundam pilot

AC has nothing great going for it. OZ just feels like any other Political power in Gundam before it and just ends with "Oh hey all the mobile suits were destroyed and we're all in peace".

Feldt was originally attracted to Lockon I for dubious reasons, and he was the 'leader' of the Gundam pilots prior to his death. You could argue that when Setsuna stepped up into the leader role in S2, he inherited Feldt's infatuation as well.

Remember, Feldt has spent her entire life growing up and being raised by CB, so her social skills aren't great. She hasn't had a regular civilian life like the other CB females.

Setsuna didn't have a love interest. Remember how badly he reacted to Nina kissing him, or even touching him in season one? That's why. Dude has interpersonal issues due to killing his parents and living as a child soldier. Those issues never go away. They become less severe in season two, but they're never cured.

Feldt makes no sense as a love interest not just because they spent no time together but because he isn't capable of feeling or returning that kind of emotion. She had a crush on him in the movie, because he was a strong, stoic masculine character who shared her ideals for peace, but a crush is all the movie treated it as. She says herself he can't return those feelings and loves the world not her or something. If anything, it's there to prove why he can't have a love interest.

Marina is worse though, because she's a surrogate maternal figure to Setsuna and always was. Satsuna just didn't have a love interest and there's nothing wrong with that. He's not required to despite the plethora of media that includes them.

I've recently wanted to get around to watch SEED and SEED Destiny as I've been playing a lot of SRW games with those series in it, but I've been told SEED Destiny is among the worst series in Gundam history.

I've watched After War X before 0079 and I really suggest you don't, it's should be much better to watch it after having seen the original gundam show as it's basically a direct alternate version of 0079 with the same kind of premise but a different turning point, mood and characters.

As of SEED and Destiny, they are both somehow "modernized" takes on both the original show (0079) and it's sequel, Gundam Zeta, but frankly the originals are overall vastly superior, if you can get past the old visuals that is (Zeta should be fine, 0079 is... less fine).
SEED's characters are really not as engaging, there's a lot of teen drama at the beginning, MC is a mary sue on many many levels, the love interest has pretty much the same problem, many secondary characters who are more interesting never get enough development, glaring sameface art issues, also most of the fights involve stock footages which is pretty annoying after some time, there are many re-cap episodes. All in all, I'd say that SEED is just plain worse than the original it tries to emulate. Now it's not all that bad, there are definitely some cool moments, most of the MS are quite cool as well, it's not that terrible but it's hardly one of the best or even of the good series (imho). If you want to get in the gundam universe and don't like old stuff, it's good already, but otherwise there's no reason not to watch 0079 instead. All the criticisms are applicable to Destiny, but up to eleven, the show manages to shit even on what SEED did right and is at a times simply a remake of SEED but worse.

If you are not put off by old animation, watch 0079 and then watch Gundam X or Zeta as they are very cool to see after that.

Too bad the movie was utter garbage and threw everything that made 00 great away.

Oddly enough, despite /m/'s lambasting on S2 I find the entirety of 00 a pretty rewatchable show. One of the better paced shows actually.

I dont count G and GBF since they're much simpler gundam shows and are more about tournaments than wars.

00 is remarkably well paced I find. And it felt like it was always going somewhere. The older shows had sections where it felt like they were running in place. Not all of them mind you, but 00 stuck in my mid for how quickly I blasted through all of it (and how much I wanted to) compared to others.

Also pretty solid mecha design. Flags/OverFlags are some of my favorite Grunts.

Graham was already one-dimensional. He never changes being dynamic but his goals and motivations are the same between both seasons. His Flags become increasingly fucking customized and progress with a more concurrent and clear-cut progression of samurai theme from the start to end of season 1 where the GN Flag is literally resembling a samurai while going blade mode to rip and tear with Setsuna after the final fight with Connor.

How do you fags miss this blatant symbolism is beyond me.

The only actual comedic relief is Patrick and that even gets gradually toned down outside of light scenes when it comes to actual combat. People complaining about Graham being Bushido is the dumbest thing ever because he was being obsessed with samurai and bushido thanks to Billy's uncle while spouting more and more nonsense about Asura, fate, crossing swords, and honor throughout season 1.

That's even why his character evolution is lampshades through his Flag turning into the GN Flag that strongly has a samurai motif at the end of season 1.
