Epyon really is a cool gundam. I'm still pissed we never got to see Treize in Tallgeese II duel with Zechs in the Epyon.

The Epyon, to me, has always been the "Dark Tallgeese".

While the two(Epyon/Tallgeese II) seem to have almost nothing in common, their creator, Treize seemed to model them after his ideals, Honor, Chivalry, Discipline, Courage.

His own true creation, one based on nothing but his will was the Epyon. The Epyon seems on paper to be a true European Knight of the code of Chivalry, yet it seems to have fallen short, and where one expects to find a Knight slaying a dragon, the Epyon was instead, the Dragon devouring the Knight.

After failing to don his own suit of armor, he began to create a counter to the very monster he had hoped to slay, the Tallgeese II(which we know as Tallgeese III). A Knightly looking suit, armed with a Kite/Heather shield, and the same load out as the Epyon, save for the beam sword, being exchanged for the Mega Cannon.

The two truly are twins, more becoming of a medieval fantasy setting then a Sci-Fi, though thats what makes them so damn lovable.

I always thought Tallgeese II was shit. After Zechs spent so long rebuilding the first Tallgeese, learning to pilot it, and making it his signature suit, seeing Trieze pull out an exact replica only with a Gundam face made it seem like a cheap knockoff and an insult to both the Tallgeese and Zechs. Tallgeese III is a magnificent suit though, and a proper upgrade to the Tallgeese line.

I can agree with this, I felt the same way, and still do somewhat.

One of the defining facts of the Tallgeese, is that its not a gundam, yet can go toe to toe with a gundam, or gundams, and come out on top.

So the adding of the gundam face plate was a low blow, as it tried to make the best notagundam suit into a gundam.

Though the Tallgeese II has grown on me as I got older, and just might be my favorite, if I was more into the Napoleonic wars, which I am not.

Has the most defensive gundam in the show, one that can tank anything the other gundams could throw at it.

While yes, the Sandrock is lacking in fighting diversity, take note that he is still a better suit in a full on fight then either the Shenlong or Heavyarms.

Yet he still has a fully armed, and armored army of mercs who are loyal to him to a fault, and gladly kill people on his command.

He is the creator of the Maganac mobile suits, which could be armed with at least some non-lethal weaponry, yet they are armed to the teeth with not only weapons to kill, but to kill violently, Axes, Swords, Claws(Fucking claws, not even the edge lords of wing use that), all to get up close and personal.

Lastly(and while there are more points, I don't remember them all, and some are from Frozen Teardrop), it did not take much "convincing" for the Zero system to drive him into pure genocidal blood lust.

Did we even watch the same show? They barely engaged in close combat. The heat hawk is just a homage to the Zaku's heat hawk, and they never had swords. Only one guy had a custom claw.

Most of the stock footage of the Maganacs just show them firing beam rifles en masse.

I had to look it up, yeah you are right. I thought that the Quatre family had a facility to manufacture stuff, and that Quatre used it to make the Maganac suits, but upon looking it up, its from the Maganac Corps own making.

I was going off the original gundams, and yeah ill admit the dragons claw is a claw(something I just watched, and yet forgot), though I don't remember seeing it used as a claw weapon, and more as a grappling arm.

As for Deathscythe, unless I'm mistaken, all he had that was like it was the shield, which had two blades, the shield pincer, or something of the like.

On screen they were shown to engage in ranged combat mostly, which makes sense as the melee weapon is a backup after all. Though I was going off their variety of melee weapons to believe that they were customized for melee combat. Upon looking it up, they did have swords, but these were from Frozen Teardrop, and mobile dolls, so they probably don't count when dealing with Quatre's Maganac corps.

I think its worth it just for the music and how obviously non serious it takes itself. As another commenter said the show is more focused on being cool and doing cool things with the suites and characters rather than developing a deep and engaging plot. I like it but that's entirely because of its music and the awesome fight scenes.

How do feel about each gundam pilots overall during the series?

I originally just lumped Heero, Trowa, and Wufei into the same insufferable, stoic asshole group, but in hindsight I realize that was really unfair. Trowa's super soldier qualities made him pretty cool (his time as an OZ soldier had some of his most interesting scenes) and Wufei's loner garbage was pretty grating, but his rivalry with Treize was interesting. Heero, no matter which way I look at it, was the worst character in the show and had zero redeeming qualities. There's an episode late in the show, where all the Gundam pilots except Heero are fight Zechs and three Virgos and it was such a well done scene that really highlighted each of the pilots. It made me realize that it was just Heero that sucked. He wasn't in that scene at all and it was fantastic. He's just a charisma vacuum, like act more bored, why don't you. I liked Quatre because he showed the most innocence (and not that bullshit you're too kind Heero kind of innocence). When he lost his shit after his father died, I really understood why he'd go so far. Yeah, it was partly the Wing Zero messing with him, but because he was so purely kind and caring, it made sense he would go so far as to destroy amusement parks because "they don't belong in space." It was a little over the top, but I understood his feelings. He and Duo were easily the most watchable Gundam pilots. Speaking of Duo, he was definitely a lot of fun. He isn't a super deep character, but that helps his case because the other pilots' characterizations tend to go too deep and get into comical. Duo succeeds because he's that kind of arrogant jerk with a heart of gold that's SUCH a trope, but it's a trope because it works. People like people like Duo, plain and simple. He was easy to root for because he'd go the extra mile with a smile.

I won't lie. I love Wing and muh Wing Boys. Nostalgia goggles aside, people aren't technically wrong to shit on Heero and Wufei because they for a lack of a better term are slightly autistic or mentally deranged.

The problem with Wufei is that he can't cope with the death of his wife (Nataku) that died awhile back. His jackassery is a reflection of that.

Quatre- Worst of all Wing boys. I won't even go there.

Trowa- I always liked Trowa. Real name or not he was pretty tight.

I disagree, to start with, Zech's plan was only undone by several coincidences that had they played out even slightly different would have led to Libra crashing to Earth for sure. Noin's remark about the grave could just as easily imply that Zech's expects to lose, rather then plans to. Disarming him doesn't mean he would automatically win the fight, Heero had the exact same position a moment later and didn't win the fight. Bringing the fight into Libra makes sense from a tactical perspective, without the Buster Rifle, Heero had no way to stop Libra, and with Epyon designed solely for close quarters combat trapping Wing Zero within the block plays to his advantage. Knowing Zero's capabilities, and being able to know exactly when it would run out of energy/bullets in the midst of a battle is a reach at best. Zechs aiding Heero at the end doesn't mean that he planned to lose the entire time, but rather that he accepted Heero/Relena's way of thinking. So yeah, I think that this theory requires a lot of stretching to make it work, and I just don't think its accurate.

Your break down of Heero shows you don't quite understand the character, which it perfectly okay. He's a 'charisma vacuum' because he's one of the most screwed up of the bunch. He's an example of why Child Soldiers are a terrible thing, and some of the consequences of it. He was raised with one goal in mind, and that's it. We find out in Endless Waltz that he's also dealing with the guilt of killing a fellow kid that never left him so he is detached from the world. It was in not killing Mariemaia, that he finally found his own redemption. Look at the others for example of this, Wufei had his warped sense of justice, honor, and what was right and wrong. Duo hid his pain behind a goofy façade, Trowa literally had no identity of his own and suffered for it And then you have Quatre, the most normal of the bunch, and ended up being the most screwed up of them all by the end of it.

An understanding Treize has a difinitive grasp of that the rockefeller war club could give a damn about.
