I agree, the first 2 shows are slightly more exciting. However, I found the first half of fighting on earth to be supremely exciting.

There was more of a sense of danger than any other UC show thus far, because the show was clearly showing nearly every episode that any of the team could die at any point. It ended up being only Shrikes, but during that arc it still made for a tense environment at the time.

I don't really understand the plot progression of V Gundam and I watched all of it. It's like Zanscare want to convince everyone to accept motherly rulers so they attack, but then there's secret plots to melt everyone on Earth's brain with some Angel Halo thing? A commissioned drawing like that normally has a lead time of days or weeks though, allowing the artist to take several attempts until he finds something that hits the right notes, to do it in several sessions, take breaks to do other work etc. It's a lot less stressful and time crunchy than frames for animation.

Yes, and the mention physical act of drawing that magazine promo art takes multiple times the entire physical act of drawing the average frame of an anime. Probably at least 5 times, though it's not hard to image it being more. Individual frames for a 50 episode show are done in minutes if possible, since the people drawing them are paid by number of frames completed rather than a flat wage.

I didn't like it personally, which is to say my opinion shouldn't stop anyone. Watch it, it's worth it, even if I dislike the show. I wasn't a fan of the majority of Zanscare designs, they had great concepts but none of them ever wow'd me. The tire's especially seemed bizarre, even more so on the ships. A lot of characters seemed pretty one-dimensional until they died, because they seemed to get quite a bit of development right before they died. I have never liked the "here's a ton of development, now die" method of losing characters. I hated Katejina. Her character, while getting a lot of development, was shallow and totally bat-shit. Reccoa gave me enough bullshit for an entire franchise, let's not get another one in. Shakti was annoying and always seemed to cause more problems then she solved. All the Psyker talk at the end seemed forced when newtypes are a thing. I know that psyker=newtype is implied, but still. Other than that I enjoyed most if not all of the remaining cast. The V2 looks awesome and with a different color scheme (the light blue didn't jive) it could be a beautiful suit.

Do we know who directed/animated the fight scenes. Some of them were real fucking good. I saw some of them in a MAD for an animator, but can't remember the name.

Everyone is gushing about Victory and I'm just sitting here remembering how I was screaming at my computer screen during every single episode. The characters act ridiculously and illogically, plots are shoehorned, and the villains are laughable. Its not ZZ bad, but I really did not like it. Of course, I didn't Turn-A either, another team favorite it seems.

It's only episode 1 that's technically out of order. But it doesn't really change much. If you want to watch it as Tomino originally wanted, start with episode 2 and then watch episode 1 after episode 4. 2,3,4,1. Else you can just watch them in 1-4 order. It's kinda like watching Star Wars from 1-6 instead of 4,5,6,1,2,3. It's watchable, just watchable.

I didn't find it that bad, but it feels rather lazy in terms of concept. Usso himself is okay, but most of the characters lack impact and the conflict itself doesn't do much for me either.

VIctory has some crazy stunts, often performed by Usso. Like combining his beam sabers into a boomerang, combining them again to create an even longer beam saber, and the crazy stunt he and Odelo(?) pulled when looking for Shakti in space.

Something I noticed today while watching Victory, Oliver's voice is absent throughout episode 24. What happened? Marbet just speaks for him essentially.

I understand he overcame depression and thus, was no longer interested in writing dramatic works, but why did his writing ability disappear along with his sadness? There's no real correlation that I can make out there, but it definitely seems to be the case here...

It's a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed it, but many characters had next to nothing when it comes to characterization. I loved the mech designs, and I loved how Tomino wasn't afraid to kill anyone, but a few deaths felt like they were there just for the sake of it. I love the way Chronicle died. They live in a world with high powered lasers and guilotines, but any mistake can kill you. I never connected with Katejina. I understood her motives, but because I never clicked with her, she got under my skin. Also, Odelo. Best character.
