Everyone is freaking out over the Hashmal's beam, but nobody is talking about the fact that its flying under gravity without big thrusters firing or anything when in this setting you needed something like the Graze's heavy thruster pack or other specialized equipment to do more than just a short boosted jump.

That's an oversimplification of the event. Yes, Gjallarhorn is guilty of entrapment, and a false flag operation. Hell, the entrapment defense is pretty strong. No one is going to question that. But the workers themselves were not innocent, and the show's narrative of this arc drew criticism in Japan over that fact. They received smuggled weapons, fired upon officers in the hangar and then proceeded to make terrorist threats. You can't make threats of violence to further your goals and still call yourself a peaceful protest. You just can't. And from dialogue in the show this was something they wanted to do for a long time.

You could make literally any other character the Barbatos pilot instead of Mika. Literally anybody. Even Kudelia. And they would be more interesting because they would actually have motivations or have difficulty piloting and have to work at it, and have investment in winning and fear of dying.

Instead Tekkadan's "action man" is a plot device. It's the same reason people hated A/Z,.
