Does photoshopping it to not have a Gundam head count? Because I like the Astrays, but SEED was already over-saturated with Gundams and having an entire line of Gundam-shaped grunts didn't help. At least do what Victory did and have the Gundam grunts not have the V-fins. Save those for main characters.

Two reasons.
1: The canon numbers for reactor output and thrust on Gundams (the usual opponent in "VF vs _____" threads) are hilariously low while canon numbers for VF thrust output is absurdly high
2: Even though threads usually start with VF-1 they don't mind throwing Dimension-Eater weapons and Fold-Crystal bullshit sensors into the debate (but balk if you bring up God Gundam).

Anyway, for any VF-1 vs anything discussion, you'll need to specify what era the VF-1 is from.
As seen in Delta, even in 2067, almost 60 years after SDF, there are still VF-1s around, and those are upgraded and modernized as fuck, with EX-Gear and upgraded engines. Giving them MDE weaponry is absurdly easy because Macross does that kind of shit casually(Remember the Frontier fleet changing every single missile and bullet they have to MDE standard?).
