I think it's just more IBO fans are getting salty. Toonami has not done the show any favors, gaining a reputation for tanking the block's ratings. It was always the big drop of the night and now, with Jojo replacing OPM, it doesn't have a strong lead-in to support it. Throw in the greater exposure has caused the show to develop a "love it or hate it" debate, and it's really hard to say the show is doing well.

Really depends on either if they think it's worth it, or DeMarco made some sort of agreement with Banrise saying they have to air season 2. DeMarco has said they are happy with the ratings numerous times, but he's in charge of the block so take those comments with a grain of salt. I doubt the explosions are big enough to cause significant damage to armor; I think the idea would be to penetrate armor on the thrust, leave the enemy impaled, and then detonate the blade. With the very skeletal frames we've got in IBO, there's a lot of blank space for those blades to penetrate the armor and then not really hit anything; if they explode, then they can at least damage the internal frame.

That aside, as a desperate measure, you could also have the blade explode during a thrust as a feint, then swing the feet blades up to take advantage of a blinded opponent.

Doesn't even need to be a grab, Mika likes to let the enemy graze him. If the Trooper's blade was explosive, I feel that this fight could've gone quite differently.

Well, I don't think he'd have access to all of the equipment, and I doubt it's all hot-swappable. Things like the Trooper's leg gimmick probably requires some serious mounting and installation work. The original Kimaris equipment is probably with the Bauduins, but maybe he'd have access to the Destroyer Lance from the Trooper... not that it'd do much. The Vidar's rapier is just about as capable as either of the lances would be; sure, it doesn't have the reach, but that disengage gimmick is ridiculously useful.

I would say the first season of IBO was pretty bad. It was an epic journey that felt like it went nowhere, with a huge cast of characters who all did nothing, filmed with dog shit 8th grade "deep" quotes, the plot turns were all predictable and also lazy(everyone has a long lost brother) and the main protagonists were just not compelling in any way(Mika, Kudelia). The whole season literally felt like setup with no payoff.

Second season is actually engaging, I'd say it might be above average.

I get what you're saying but he didn't have any more development at all. How did he develop at all? What was his arc as a character? Akihiro opened up more, found his self worth more, and found worth in the other human debris and became closer to Tekkadan as a result of the retarded and horrible plot with his brother. Shino...got afraid to lead again? Felt responsible for people dying, cried for one second over it, then got over it and swore off ever being in charge again? I like Shino a lot but he's not some super developed character. Not many characters in IBO are at all.

Done watching S1 a few days ago and started catching up to S2. It suffers from all the problems S1 had except that they dropped the Kudelia Sugoi disease, which makes it more tolerable but hardly anything worth talking about. Characters are still uninteresting, action sequences still suffer from cheapness on the editing part, and a lot of exposition/conference all around. It's still playing the awful game of hinting at things happening, then padding their way to it with nothing. The new tekkadan members are particularly bad.

I wouldn't call the second season amazing unless its rooted in comparing it with the first season's absolutely mediocrity and failing to be anyway engaging. Kudelia's routine flip floppping and the long stretches of the events in the middle of the show from the Space Debris arc to Dorts arc were pointless and unnecessary as well as other stuff being transparent as hell; Chocolate Man betraying Gaelio and Carta, Biscuit's foreshadowed death, Fumitan being a spy, etc...

I'd say the problem is more it wants to be a yakuza story but season one was fucking terrified people will think the protagonists are evil. So it goes out of it's way to justify, shill and attempt to make them likable while completely ignoring the guy who does Tekkadan's dirtiest deeds Mikazuki.
