Seriously.

I just finished it and it was a ride. Realistic mecha action and a good story.

Watch it on YouTube before it's taken down

The Dougram stuff that's on Youtube isn't even the whole thing. Torrent it, or if you must, stream it elsewhere.

But yeah, Dougram is great.

They were the first combat armors, and they were replaced quickly by the bipedal models.

>The Dougram stuff that's on Youtube isn't even the whole thing
very cool person BlueGunner put the remainder of the series up on youtube

I'm only up to around 60, but yeah it's been really great. They do a good job balancing the serial drama and the weekly robot fights.

I like how much they seem to try to go off from the usual cliches, like "Imma go pilot the robo- aw shit they took it" and how often the keikakus don't doori so when they do doori it's actually .

It still dougramwinslol and the gravity physics are very wonky, but it's been well worth going through. I'm surprised it didn't get more spinoffs from the setting like Votoms.
>>

This is the biggest problem I had with the show. There's some bullshit plot armour and I would have appreciated seeing one of the FotS die. This is a war after all.

Sometimes we see Dougram take like five hits dead on and it does fucking nothing. After a while you begin to root for the Earth millitary because they're the real underdogs against Dougram.

>>
>>14980018
Don't get me wrong, Dougram is a great show.
It's a very different show to VOTOMS though. I'd argue that Dougram is actually more realistic with it's politics and no oberman adventures in space
VOTOMS is a more personal journey wheras Dougram is focused more on the wider circumstances of its war and politics.

Politics, characters, and plot. Honestly, and I say this often, Dougram is more similar to LoGH than VOTOMs, at least IMO.

VOTOM's appeal comes from a combination of its pessimistic, war-torn setting, comparatively low-tech, vulnerable mechs (people joke that ATs are filled with napalm because they blow up so easily) and Chirico's unflappable stoicism. While Dougram has fun fights, they tend to be sort of silly (judo-throwing mechs!) rather than frenetic as a lot of VOTOMs fights tend to be.

What people love about Dougram is the amount of attention it pays to politics and strategy--which is astonishing, IMO, for a kid's show. The show touches on things like colonialism, economic warfare, guerrila strategy, and history as "progress" very deftly, at least as much as a mecha show can get. And just like folks thought Yang's speech to the committee in LoGH was relevant to IRL politics, people have pointed out that many speeches in Dougram, like one character talking about winning "hearts and minds," also had real-life applicability.

TL;DR: You might be disappointed if you go into Dougram expecting a mecha and setting very similar to VOTOMs, but you might be quite pleased if you're hankering for a politics/military strategy show--maybe not quite like LoGH, which is different in many ways, but it scratches the same itch.
>>

Who is this legend named sky9swimmify?

I watched Dougram a while ago, after ot had been uploaded to his account. He's got some other clips from Liger and other mecha shows.

>>14980109
I love this phrase.
Even though Votoms is technically closer to 'nam with its Kunmen arc, the way that Dougram plays out has a great amount kf similarities.

It's interesting that (due in part to the series length) the war stalls into attrition and ends in an uneasy, uncomfortable compromise that seems like a loss for the rebels. The pessimism of conflict, the power of the media, and the workings and exposure of political wheeling is pretty spot on for the 1960s era. the frustrated viewer is made to think thay maybe the Rebellion could have won completely, if only it handn't been forced to stop by its own leaders. Such feelings abound for the war in 'nam, in which the US had the technical upperhand, but was manipulated into psychological defeat by its own internal confpict, hastened by sensationalist broadcast of events like the Tet.

I kind of wonder if Combat Armors on the whole were moving towards two-seater configurations as time went on. The Blockhead was a two-man deal, and so were the Bigfoots and Cabarovs/Nicholievs IIRC.

I definitely think I remember a scene from some of the last episodes where a Cabarov is shown as having two people inside of it.

>I would have appreciated seeing one of the FotS die.

While I agree with the general "jesus the FotS have so much absurd plot armor it's insane" sentiment, since it seems any time Dougram is at a disadvantage it will either lose an arm and win the fight or lose an arm and J-Locke will come in and save everyone, someone from the FotS did die.

And got replaced by a much worse replacement.

>>14981361
Zambot, Daitarn, another uploader of Xabungle, Getter Robo, Getter Robo G, and a few other shows used to be on Youtube, and they're not now. Youtube's copyright policy is absolutely fucking stupid, you'll see clips of episodes get taken down while the entire goddamn series is up elsewhere as a regular thing.

Don't forget that you can use VLC player to download any video off of YouTube. It's good for people who can't or won't torrent. Better than streaming, too.

Dougram feels to me like proto-VOTOMS. When I watched VOTOMS I actually saw it as a direct response to Dougram. Dougram is a story about soldiers who due to the format of their story always win constant conflicts, while VOTOMS is also a kind of story about a protagonist who is protected by a higher power for some far off endgame purpose. Only then Chirico rejects his role in the universe because the whole point of the show and his character is the power of autistic individualism. I found that cool.

Also the fight choreography from Dougram to VOTOMS is awesome to see. Dougram jumps like an NBA star and fucks everything because it's Dougram but the Scopedog fights are all about moving fast and getting in the first killing hit. Again, this feels like an answer to a flaw/theme in Dougram.

>>14980109

No man. Dougram is not Battle of Algiers in space, it's the bloody vietnam war on Deloyer.
For pete's sake, you've got river combat, the guerillas are dressed as fucking vietcongs and many other references implicit or explicit to the vietnam era. It's literally the vietcong versus the us army.
