I'm confused by the image. She opens the package, puts on what she was already wearing? Am I completely sleep deprived or what?

Kenji Inafune blew 30 years of reputation with one train wreck of a game. The game was like an after thought to him. It was all about starting a new multi-media empire. They didn't think to hire competent devs with experience in 2D platformers. Just total mismanagement all the way down.

To anyone paying attention, this wasn't a shock. Inafune was never the genius behind the series. The myth that he is the series creator will not die for some unknown reason. The gaming media is desperate to prop him up. A lot of the games he was producer for weren't particularily any good. MM8? X4? Yeah he was a producer (among several) for MM9 and 10, but those games were great not because of Inafune, but because of the directors and designers.

Producers are not directors. So many people make that mistake.

>Dreadout got 29,000 in crowd sourcing
>Solid game, released on time

>MN9 got 4,000,000
>multiple delays, technical problems, terrible game

>Bloodstained got 8 million
>multiple delays

>Shovel Knight got 300,000
>solid game released with only minor delay
>continual support and free expansions

>Shantae got 776,084
>many many delays
>eventually released and looks solid

>Star Citizen got 137,000,000
>game spirals out of control and loses focus and not even sure if it will ever release in our lifetimes.

Any other big crowd sourced games I'm missing? These seem to be the most well known.

I think the lesson is more budget doesn't mean better game. More budget means they lose focus, and the project can spiral out of control. Often less is more, and keeping it simple is better.

The two most important people in the creation of Mega Man are Akira Kitamura (director) and Nobuyuki Matsushima (programming). Inafune was a minor figure.

Sounds like it's a difference of approach between people who used to be with the big companies and made "normal" games already, and indie developers who only made indie titles or nothing at all.

For the latter, a 500 thousand dollar budget is an incredible sum and very motivating to deliver a good product. For the former, it's laughable. Even if they're making games on the (relatively) cheap now, they are too used to millions of bucks in budget and don't know how to manage smaller ones.

Saddest thing is, they did. Look at Gunvolt 2. Very similar shoot 'n dash mechanics as MN9, but instead of being a chore it's a fucking blast to play.
>>
>>14973116
That MuvLuv kickstarter is reportedly pretty good. And then there's everything ever by Harebrained Schemes, supposedly their Shadowrun add-on was top-notch, and BattleTech is looking extremely good (they had a playable alpha not long after they finished their Kickstarter).
>>
>>14973178

The directors for MN9 were literally whos with little or no experience. One of them has ZERO credits, and this was his first game ever.

Contrast that with Gunvolt, which was directed by Yoshihisa Tsuda who had a long history of working on Mega Man games.

Did Inti intentionally put their best people on their internal game and left the b-team to MN9? Or did Comcept go with the cheapest team they could get?

Freedom Planet
Low KS goal. Low Radar. High quality and exciting to play game.

Also the upcoming Spark the Electric Jester. Play the demo, it's rock solid, and only got like $9,000.
