***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 2/1/17
Submissions go to
[email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

>We're working on making the board better so we don't end up with the last groupbuild for every single group build.
For one that's gibberish, for two that ignores the /toy/ thread.
>See, a lot of people like to parrot "read the guide" but I think a few people actually follow what it says, that's just by judging the last groupbuild.
No shit a few people follow what it says. Most people follow what it says. That's because they're not daft.
>A lot of people like to keep /m/ as their little hugbox, a place where they feel in charge.
That's what personal forums are for. I'm not willing to believe people are that daft, even with all the stupid shit I've seen.
>We trips don't care about anonymity because we can respond when called out on something.
Anyone can respond when called out on something. I'd be able to do that if you didn't have your trip on. That's what replies are for.
>These people are afraid, because we basically do whatever we want by upsetting the status quo set up by these individuals.
What individuals? Do you even know where you are?
>The real shitposters are the dum-dums who spam every general with image dumps and then blame us with the excuse that we take off our trips when we have no real reason to.
I've never seen anyone blame you or Snapfit for the guy spamming MG ALEX VER 2.0 or GLENN DIES or whatever.

its actually two tones of green. Medium for the body and SAC bomber green for the rest of the body.

Literary all of my kits are a variety of different military greens, greys or earthly tones. I'm not into flashy looking schemes, really.

Finished my blue GM. Wanted to make a friend for my red one. I love the beam swrod design, cause its not just a flat pice of plastic, but also im ass at painting it. Tried to layer a red/matallice red/ and transparent purple. It looks more like a red hot stick than a beam saber, but oh well. Over all a solid kit. Would recommend for beginners.

took a slightly better pic which makes the contrast in tones more easily distinguishable. the Dom II behind it however was painted in dark green and Olive drab so the shitty resolution really makes it difficult to spot the differences.

The bright yellow markings on the Dom where intentional. Back in WWII the Germans painted bright yellow stripes on the tails and wing tips of their aircraft to aid in identification.

So now with the zaku, SD burning and the two GMs done, this is whats left of the backlog. Both have lots of runners and will be a much bigger project than any of the previous stuff I've done, aside from the zoid. And that took me fucking forever to do. >We're working on making the board better

No

No you're not. Honestly I don't think you're that bad of a guy but the fact you're buddies with that autismo snapfit really shits on any sort of positive reputation you could have. And snapfit is doing nothing to improve the thread and this board, Posting/reposting pictures of nubby OOB builds when the gunpla thread gets slow doesn't help at all; and the threads he makes outside of the gunpla thread are consistently garbage. For example making a thread and just posting "xyz series is shit" is not a way to "make the board better", it's a way to start a shit show. And why do you give a fuck about this thread's groupbuild? You didn't participate in the last one as far as I know, and based on your distaste you have already shown for the Graze and it's variants, I would think you won't be participating in this one either.

The gunpla thread can be pretty slow sometimes, as well as /m/ as a whole; just accept it. Two obnoxious tripfags aren't going to change that, especially when you wear that trip like a badge of honor, holy shit get the fuck over yourself.

Also I thought /toy/ was the hugbox? But I guess by that logic, anywhere that doesn't put up with snapshits bullshit is a hugbox, or at least your definition of what a hugbox is. Bottom line though, if you don't like it, fucking leave; nobody is forcing you to be here, there are a multitude of other websites on the internet where you can go to discuss/post pictures of gunpla. Maybe rather than "fighting the good fight to make this board better" you can find somewhere else where no one gives either of you any shit and you can just enjoy yourselves. But hey, let's be serious, we both know you and snapfit won't do that though because you like being special snowflakes here.

Almost forgot, here's your (you)

It's a meme
Hlj is my go to place for ordering

SAL does take forever and it makes anyone anxious waiting two months or so for a package without knowing where it is and when it'll get to you, but i've never had a package go missing.

SAL is slow as fuck though. Although I kind of enjoy it if it's something I'm not in a rush to get. It takes so long taht I completely forget about it and then one day I'm randomly greeted by a pleasant surprise that i totally forgot about.
>>
>>14972056
HLJ is reliable enough. Sure prices might be a little higher than other sites but they are guaranteed to deliver. SAL is your usual 15 days affair if you live in the US but whenever I buy through them I always ship via FedEx because it only takes those guys like six days at most.
>>
>>14972056
I love HLJ. I've done a lot of business with them and the Private Warehouse function allows me to save on shipping since I do a lot of impulse buying.

So I've always thought it would be cool to do an alt history nazi zaku complete with ss bolts and swastika decals. But I have 2 questions.

Iron crosses is more associated with the Wehrmacht IIRC so it looks more military.

>>
>>14972056
>how terrible SAL is
Not at all. If you live in Western Europe it will, at the max, take like 2 - 3.5 weeks. If you have registered SAL you won't even have to worry about where your package is, and you can even track it with your local postal service (postnl here in the Netherlands) to see exactly when your package gets delivered. Some countries have import taxes and shit on other types of shipping, so I tend to stick to SAL, registered or unregistered if I want to save a few europlops.
>>
>>14972173
its not difficult to simply use the water mark decals of German tanks or aircraft. Using an stencil to draw Swastikas and SS runes on the other hand is a little more labor intensive.
>>
>>14972199
Agreed. Also, if you're the guy posting military scheme MSes, I just want to say that I like how they come off.
>>
>tfw you built the RE/100 GP04 and are happy with it but you like the design so much you want to get another one

>>
>>14972173
I never actually thought about it that way. You never really did see tanks and shit with swastikas on them. You did see them on some ships though.....maybe they would look more appropriate on an aquatic suit like a zgok or somthing?

The whole ' beauty' of German patterns is that they never really standardized any particular patterns aside from the theatre markings ( the bands of different colors near the end of the tails for example) Yellow was used to identify planes operating in the Eastern front, White for Africa and the Mediterranean and some units used on the defense of the Reich had red bands.

There prices are only like a dollar or two higher than amiami, which is one of the cheapest places to order from. But the real reason to use them is the private warehouse feature. It also looks like they are adding a point system for further discounts and they have sales several times a year to clear out inventory which can be a good chance to pick up kits cheap.

The only real negative is that since everyone uses them it can be hard to find what you want in stock. Especially right after Christmas.

I'm looking for some good HGs that I can put in my shopping backlog so the next time I go to buy an MG and want to round out the cart a bit more, I already have some shit ready.
How's the G30 RX-78 that comes with the panel line marker? Obviously articulation won't be as good as the revive and the beam saber isn't colored, but it looks aesthetically more pleasing than the revive in my opinion and has some extra shit like the F R E E gundam marker.
Also what are some solid HGs in general?
>>
>>14972507
HGs are overall pretty solid when it comes to quality across the board. Just go for what you like/ is currently in stock.

Personally speaking I like to keep the Monoeye/ Feddie MS ratio as close to 50/50 as I can but that's me.
>>
>>14972507
The G30th's pretty nice. All the panel lines really help break up the large sections of white on the arms and legs, and the fact that it comes with a Gundam Hammer is pretty neat.

It looks great, but the knee joints are kind of floppy. Upper body is too heavy that the knees can have issues with it.

The way the rule works is any alteration you make that doesn't come from graze is counted toward the number, speaking purely technically you actually wouldn't be making an alteration. However, if you replaced graze arms with AGE Titus arms you could say that's about ~15% change. If your entire kit is graze parts that you modify you never even really touch the alteration percent, but if you replace 50% of it with non-graze parts you tap it out.
How exactly that number gets metered out is where it gets nutty though, because it's not like we go from part count so what I use as a guide is arms 20, legs 20, upper body 20, lower body 20, head 20. Since it's a graze though, if I was only modifying the chest with non-graze parts I'd say that would be 10 if it was just a frame modification. Obviously if you only change one arm or leg the number would be halved as well

Not from the mouth of god though so ultimately the final rending is up to Groupbuild guy
>>
>>14973231
Basically just don't slap a graze head on an entirely different kit and call it a graze and you should be fine. As long as it is clearly still based on a graze I don't think anyone will care too much.
>>
>>14973231
Since we're talking about it now, I was wondering if mine is over 50%

The only parts I replaced from the Graze are the shoulder armor, lower legs, feet and front skirt armor
The rest is still graze, but with bits and pieces from other kits slapped on all over it.
Since they're still Graze parts but with extra armor and bits added on to it, I'm wondering how much it adds onto the 50% rule. I feel like I may have gotten a little too carried away with slapping bits of plastic on it, but at this point I'm not sure what I'd want taken away since I'm pretty satisfied with how it looks.
>>
>>14973249
Post pics, and honestly I don't think people are going to be too anal about the 50% rule. It's carried over from /toy/'s gm build and is mostly just in place to keep people from slapping a single gm part onto a kit and calling it a gm.

Adding bits and pieces to the already existing Graze frame/armor doesn't count towards the 50%. It only really counts if you replace whole limbs or the torso.

>>14973331 is perfectly fine for example, since it still has the Graze aesthetic from a small distance. Since you swapped out the lower legs and the shoulders, that'd be like 30% going off of pic related. Things like the torso/skirt mods wouldn't count since you're working off of the base Graze kit.

As confusing as it is, alclads paints (except gloss black) are lacquer but their klear kotes (except for aqua gloss) are actually enamel based (as I found to my horror upon trying to do an enamel wash on their regular gloss). The line itself is called "Alclad II Lacquer". The klears are enamel so they don't fuck up the lacquer paints.

>>
>>14973712
My sibling has two. I mean, they are really basic and have next to no articulation (the elbows and knees don't even break), but they probably would be good painting practice I guess.
>>
>>14973712

From what I've heard, they really aren't worth it.

If you're lucky, you'll find them for really cheap but they're usually priced only slightly cheaper than their HG counterparts due to including some gimmick meant for a game with the kit.

If you want something blocky and basic to practice painting, older NG kits might be worth a look.

I realize I'm way late to the party, but I did something similar to this to spice up one of my older kits.
It's a Zaku FZ with some decals off a sheet of 1-72 scale luftwaffe waterslides. The decal scale is just on the verge of too big for HG and too small for MG, so they only kind of work for both scales.

When spring comes, I am planing to paint the upper portion of the shoulder-shield in yellow since an MS would be more concerned with being identified by friendly air, rather than ground support. Much like german tankers would drape the reich's flag over the top of their hull for the same purpose.

It depends on the color and how big of a surface you want to paint. By and large Testors enamels hand paint acceptably except for white, red, and orange. Their line of flats hand paint probably the best of all their colors except for silver.

Testors acrylics I don't have as much experience with, but I can testify that their flat black acrylic is some of the best, easiest paint to apply to large surfaces I've ever used. On the minus side, it's flat black.

hardware store sprays depend a lot on the specific brand. Most of what youll generally find at a hobby store in terms of sprays is testors and 'model masters' witch I think is also from testors. If you go with them, I recommend sticking to their flats and metallics. Just don't expect any consistency in terms of spray thickness. Ive used them a lot and have had several issues. Sometimes you just get a bad can and it wont stick to shit no matter what you do. Now I cant speak for their PAINT, but Tyiama primer is VERY nice. The spray is a fine mist, kinda like the mist setting on a garden hose. And is hard to fuck up in terms of using to much, just because it goes on so light. I would assume their paint is similar. Good luck finding it in a store though. Mine only sells their primer. I want to switch over to using them, but I need to find a decent place to order it from.
>>
So how ridiculous would the pricing be if Bandai ran every piece under a painter that'd paint all the decals and color separation onto the piece?

So I've noticed in all the reviews of the re/100 Bawoo that its toes are never pointed down when it's in a flying pose. However, they clearly point down if you deform the ankle like pic related. Okay anon, I'm going to share a secret with you, a secret method for tightening worbn down joints. Just telling you this could have me expelled from the knights of Pledge .

There exists a secret product, a simple gloss varnish used for floors called "Pledge with Future". Simply coat the plastic parts of the kit the polycap comes into contact with. The balljoints, pegs, and holes, but not the polycaps themselves because the varnish won't stick well and will rub off easily.

Then let the parts sit for 2-3 days and the joints will magically be tighter.

I don't like this advice. what this should have said is: bounce the light from your flash using foil or white paper, diffuse your flash by putting white paper (or whatever, experiment with materials!) in front of it. Use aluminum foil or even white paper to reflect flash from the other side of the figure. Or use a combination of flash and ambient lighting by using slow-sync flash.

Some people here swear by them, but if I were making the decision I'd go with the HG.

Except for a SD Neo Zeong, all of my kits are all Gundams.
I don't particularly like mono-eye.

I'm usually more of a fan of Gundams, but I preferred the Efreet

Meanwhile I'm here with upwards of thirty kits and no RX-78, and I have little interest in getting any of them except for the MG Origin version. I mean I have an HG 0 Gundam and AGE-1, so I basically already have the grandpa.

Oh, and I also have a PG Mk.II AEUG that I'll probably never build because I'm using it as motivation to get through my backlog.

>>14977793
>>14977774
I'm sort of surprised there aren't converison kits that turn the GP01 into the GP03s, kind of weird. It's almost as stupid as there not being a conversion kit that turns the PG RX-78-2 into a PG Alex

the fact that I consider myself a zeek but after chatting with a friend recently about how many as well as which kits I own in particular, I figured out that overall, by a pretty large margin, I have more feddie kits than zeek kits.

I need help with the HG Buster Gundam (HG Gundam Seed R03).
The problem is that in panel 5 it asks me to connect waist with torso and then head but (image related) there's no indication on the piece I'm supposed to put in to allow torso-head connection.

Did I fucked up something?
>>
You're not missing any piece, the head mounts on the balljoint just like that
>>
>>14978210
The problem isn't with the quantity, the problem is with the quality. No matter how hard you pray to the Gunpla gods, cry manly tears through your plastic dust filled eyes or scream GUNPLA IS FREEDOM they just don't want to stick to the fucking model. I found them falling onto my desk and sticking to my fingers long after they'd dried nad before I could get a topcoat on. Best of luck to you dude, just remember you were warned.

Jesus, this is so stupid on so many levels, why every other gunpla has one while this one is just "stick in it and that's it"?
I feel stupid because every other gunpla I built had that piece.

Solved it, apparently there's no piece and I have only to stick the head on the ball, the inside of the head simply allows it, it's the first time I found something like that
>>
>>14978260
That's what happened to me. I put them all on and I thought "hey I'll go get some dinner and I'll top coat it when I come back". I think the worst part was that some of the decals stayed on bit parts of them came off and ended up ripping. I hope the psycho zaku doesn't have the same type of decals
>>
>>14978267
I own all of the SEED Remasters, and it seems like all of those old HGs work like that, I'm personally fine with that design, but having a polycap in the head sort of future-proofs it from getting loose
>>
>>14978267
>second guessing the instructions
lel, the first time with gunpla must have been torture since it's the first time with everything
>>
>>14978271
All of them? Oh well, I'm fine with it.
I was initially worried because I wasn't aware of it.
Thanks
>>
>>14978265
The topcoat would seal them onto the plastic, yes. Just getting to the point where you have all of the waterslides on the limb ready to be topcoated though is a struggle unto itself. Even with the gentlest of handling I had them simply falling off, if they even adhered to the surface in the first place. I'm no pro, but I've got a few MGs under my belt and have never encountered this problem. It seems like Bandai went for a cheap option for the waterslide sheets or there were mass defective batches. Shame since the rest of the kit looks great.

>>14978269
The worst part for me was having asymmetry, particularly on the four shields. If the Zaku has the same we riot.
>>
>>14978279
That's why I'm going to wait until I hear several reviews on the psycho zaku. I got the full armor the second I could because I loved the look and I regret it. The suit would be okay without decals but now that it's all fucked up and I'm a box in a closet. It was the first ver ka I built that I didn't absolutely love
>>
Whats everyone's opinion on these kits? Im considering having one be my project over winter break.
1. Nu gundam ver ka
2. Sinanju stein ver ka
3. Pg zeta gundam (or can someone recommend a better pg I just said zeta because zeta looks cool but I know nothing about the kit)

It looks nice. I also think that the Grimgerde upper body meshes together than the Reginraze for this.

Do you have more plans for the legs? While the upper body looks armed to the teeth, the legs look sort of plain in comparison. I think it'd be neat to see some more thrusters attached, or even more weapons like missile pods strapped on if you wanted yet more dakka.
>>
>>14978390
The problem is that placing the thruster on the side (the red parts of legs ) it looks kinda weird/ not balance, maybe the green areas
>>
>>14978271
Is it common that there are clearly missing decals? I noticed that the examples on the box all have the two green dots above the crotch and the butt skirt has two red parts with black insides that are definitely missing as decals.
>>
>>14978445
There's not always stickers for missing colours.

At least the white upper arms/legs might help out the colorscheme. Wonder what they were doing with Hush now that he's not getting the gundam.

>>14978445
As >>14978454 already said, there is not always stickers for all of the colors, this is even the case on modern kits. If you want it to be completely accurate then you'll need to do some detail painting.
