They have a flashback to Ghost's father's death from the tv show in the movie itself, but then the movie goes on and that never comes up, with him dying in a completely unrelated way. The tv show death IS shown in the movei though, in a flashback. There's a scene where Takeru then says he'll change and stop it from happening... but then the scene never comes up again.

All the time travel stuff in the movie was really odd and doesn't really make sense even within the movie's own context.
